A search of flickr didn't reveal many pictures of planes rushing down the runway in the dark. I think I know why now. I needed a 500mm lens to get close to the plane from outside the high security perimeter fence. As the plane was passing my front from right to left, I needed to pan the handheld big 500mm lens. And it was dark, roughly half an hour before sunrise. And the plane at this point was moving fast. Probably around 100mph as it was accelerating up to V1, the point at which there is no turning back from taking off. So I was reasonably pleased with a fairly sharp closeup that captures some of the movement and speed as the plane accelerates down the runway and off into the sky towards Doha.
