There is a internet rumor that the Pyongyang subway has only two stations. We traveled five stations so that was obviously not true. The origin of the rumor is that tourists are often just shown the two first stations since they are the most beautiful.

평양 백선행기념관(白善行紀念館).
Paek Son Haeng (1848-1933) was a female philanthropist who donated large sums for the construction of schools and other welfare institutions in colonial Korea. This building near Taedong Gate was built by her and later re-named Paek Son Haeng Memorial Hall in memory of her services. It was refurbished as a museum only recently.

The old monument which had disappeared during the Communist "transformation" of the North Korean society was re-installed here some years ago, together with a newly created bronze bust of Paek Son Haeng.
The first two stations on the red line on the Pyongyang subway are very beautiful with murals, marble and ornamented lamps in the ceiling.

The Juche Tower (officially the Tower of the Juche Idea) is a monument in Pyongyang, North Korea.

The Korean trunk line from Pusan to Sinuiju via Seoul and Pyongyang was completed by the Japanese in 1906. A new station building was begun in 1950 and completed in 1957. The building shows a mixture of Russian and Korean elements which is typical of the architecture of the immediate postwar period. It is possible to take a train to Beijing from here but there are no trains to Seoul.

This side of Pyongyang completely escapes foreign visitors until they have the opportunity to go up one of the city's observation decks. This picture was taken from the Yanggakdo hotel. There are several areas of the city that appear to be almost in ruins, including residential areas.
