It was early fall at the end of September 2021. My wife Tarja and I were photographing the northern lights in a familiar place.
Suddenly a bright light appeared in the sky moving downwards. We wondered what a strange meteor or rocket it was.
The next day it turned out we had seen an American rocket launch. It was Atlas V Landsat 9.
This was not the first rocket this fall. Earlier September we saw a Russian Soyuz rocket.
There are many things to see in the dark starry sky today.

Photographing Aurora borealis is often waiting. At this time of year it is often already frosty and you have to wait for hours for Northern Lights to appear.
When the northern lights then appear the fatigue disappears when you get to experience that miraculous phenomenon again.
There were three bright nights this week and of course I was off-road.
Last sunday I took the caravan behind the car and I drove to a place where the northern lights are almost always seen in clear weather, so it was now. Then I set out to photograph.
The Aurora forecast looked good and every three night the northern lights were visible.
Nature is really beautiful when the clear night sky shines in the light of the stars and the crescent moon illuminates. That experience is always just as impressive and I love it.
I photographed the northern lights for three nights this week and the trip was a success.
Here is an example of a beautiful double arc of Auroras.

Sometimes northern lights photography is impossible because the sky is too cloudy. Unfortunately, this is very common today.
However, cloudiness can also be a joy. As in this photo. When there are not too many clouds they give the image a whole new element and stunning textures.

I was able to photograph the Aurora borealis for a long time and this time the sky remained almost cloudless. My wife Tarja and I photographed three nights in a familiar place and every night the northern lights came out. Here’s one shot from the trip.

You don't always have to travel far to take beautiful photographs. This one was taken in my backyard...
...in a town I don't know, in a country whose language I don't speak.

Update 9th November: massive thanks for the incredibly positive reaction to this image. I've just added a blog post with some insight to what I went through to shoot it; a couple of tips to ease the pain if you want to create something similar; and a note about the limited PP.
