Year: 2004. I began photography purely for documentation, but soon I started seeing it in terms of light, composition, and color. What fascinates me most about photography is the power of capturing real life. While creating portraits is enjoyable, nothing compares to the magic of documenting genuine moments. In 2017, my focus will be on capturing both the past and present preserving memories like a personal time machine, creating someone's forever.

This was purely a test of how these targets would be framed and also a light pollution filter I had lying around not being used. Just 30 x 2.5 minute subs, a little more than an hours worth. The luminance filter I've been using seems to allow too much blue and the telescope is probably slightly out of collimation which is causing some bad blue halos around stars. I wanted to test this LPF to see if it would mitigate those blue halos, which is mostly seemed to do.

obviously, this is purely photoshopped.

laugh if you must. most of my friends did.

i'm sorry if you find this offensive.

i don't mean to offend anyone. this photo is just for laughs. period.

yess. butt grabbing. HAHAHAHAHAHHA

and there will be a DC customs group shot in this weekend....

I shot this picture about 15 years ago on an old Graflex 4x5 view camera that I bought in High school. People are always asking if the colors are real, well, Photoshop didn't even exist yet when I shot this, so the answer is yes. It was a rusty old bike that I painted with some spray cans of flourescent paint I had lying around. I shot the picture purely for my own amusement. I never would have beleived that 15 years later it would still be my most popular picture.

This is purely a fictitious name for this character.

I met this steampunk Lady in Lincoln UK. I mistakingly did not take her contact details , I got carried away taking pictures and some months later I regret not being more organised,

if you know this lady, please let her know that I have a print for her.

I tried to do something creative there...The place by itself is purely crazy...it seems to me that I don't fit...For the next time I'll think in something else better...

The name is purely descriptive.

Compositionally "challenging" but rules are there to be broken...Re-worked from the sharp frost we had at the beginning of the year. I've been looking through old shots for this years work calendar which I volunteered to do ...I'd love to do a purely black and white one on high quality paper but budgets etc! On that subject can someone direct me to quality printers who would guide me through the intricacies of B+W printing on different portfolio papers?

Designed purely for SF operations. However, recently SO19 placed a large order.

The M22 is silent, accurate and above all, powerful.

Designed to drop a target and give the operator the confidence to know his enemy is down thanks to the 7.62x51 round.

I fancied doing a proper build, was pretty slow to start. Anyway, I quite like how its turned out.

Credit to Shock for the trigger and mag release.

Option gets a cheeky credit for that M249 bit on the front end.

Aw, lightbox it.

Wasn’t going to post today because of the earlier Flickr hiccups, but now that its seems to be fixed, what the heck…this was taken this past weekend while hunting for flowers with my Canon.

The wierd yet impressive color of the water is purely natural. You can see it also in the wide-angle image below. And it's really a kind of magic... when the wind stops blowing, you have to hold your breath for not breaking the spell...

Handheld shot with Olympus 75mm f1.8, my fav lens for shooting flowers.

Nothing has been done to the background, it is purely a result of this lens’ natural bokeh rendering.

Yet regardless of lens quality, bokeh can be badly messed up or even mangled in shot and in particular by atrociously poor post-processing!

Bokeh will get messed up when shooting in electronic front curtain shutter mode above 1/1,000s.

Even worse is bad post-processing, just look at those gear forum image threads on kilo class 50mm f1.2 lenses, yet these same lens owners with images showing badly mangled bokeh keep waxing lyrical about their behemoth f1.2 boat anchors!

Conversely, some hobbyists like to complain about lenses being overly contrasty hence affecting bokeh quality. Fact is, contrast in bokeh can be handled via post-processing if required but it’s onion-rings and all kinds of structures within bokeh balls that cannot be easily dealt with in post-processing.

There’s just way too much fallacies being propagated in gear forums. The worse of which are those from certain Nikon “Z”-ealot fanbois shills, no other brands’ fanboism ever reach such ridiculous levels of obnoxiousness and delusion, this is likely a consequence of extreme insecurity over their brand totem!

Some crazy “Z”-ealot fallacies;

1. “Z”-ealots loved to claim that the wider Z mount will lead to more efficient lens designs but what actually happened are Z lenses being bulkier, heavier and more expensive than equivalent lenses from other brands. The “Z”-ealots have largely stopped beating this widest mount drum these days for obvious reasons and have instead pivoted to suggesting that Nikon prioritized lens quality over size but doesn’t this mean that Nikon Z is the new Sigma of old!? Nikon F mount was way narrower than Canon EF but that didn’t preclude Nikon from making the class leading AF-S 14-24mm f2.8 G which Canon had no answer for a long time but yet Nikon “Z”-ealots will poke fun at other brands with smaller mounts.

2. The oft quote that you buy into the Z system mainly for the lenses when “Z”-ealots shills try to convince others (especially Nikon DSLR F mount users) to switch is obvious acknowledgement that the Z bodies are not competitive in terms of features and price. The Z7 series is not pro-spec unlike the D850 which is pro-spec, Nikon said so themselves. Then you have reality being laid bare with irrational exuberance over adapting lenses from other systems per below. If the Z lenses are as great as these shills claimed, why bother to adapt lenses from other mounts!?

3. A rampant Nikon “Z”-ealot fanbois shill with multiple user names on various gear forums was seen hyperventilating over the new version 2 of the Megadap E to Z adaptor recently. Shows how limited Nikon’s Z lens choices actually is and how slow Nikon is at bringing out new needed and interesting lenses. This notorious shill even suggested that “it makes sense to built a system based on a Nikon Z with some Sony lenses”. No surprise here since this was the exact same situation back in DSLR days when Nikon had a noticeably inferior lens lineup, this was Nikon at a much stronger no.2 behind Canon but Z’s current market share is a lot smaller with the Z mount being even more closed off to 3rd party lens makers than F mount ever was! This ridiculous Nikon Z shill even postulated that adapting Sony lenses on Nikon Z bodies will make Canon less relevant as a system when factually Nikon has a long and notorious history of crippling 3rd party lenses via firmware updates! As it is, Nikon already crippled their own FTZ adapter such that their own F-mount lenses get only 3 out of a possible 5 axis of stabilization. There’s no mention of IBIS effectiveness with the Megadap ETZ21 adapter.

As a multiple system user, I would rather acquire E-mount or even M-mount Voigtlander lenses which can be used on both E and Z mount than limiting myself with the same Voigtlander lenses released specifically for Z mount since these cannot be used on any other mounts. I can even get to use an AF adapter for M or E-mount Voigtlander lenses on the Z if I really wanted to.

This is the insiduous nature of these “Z”-ealot shills, always trying to distort reality to mislead others in favor of the brand they worship, have to wonder if these are in fact paid influencers! Nikon “Z”-ealot fanbois shills are truly the worst as no other brand users are anywhere near as obnoxious and delusional in belittling all other brands, such insecurity over just a camera brand, their constant propagation of fallacies are a real disservice to other users!

For beginners, take what you read in gear forums with a sackful of salt especially those forumers who seemed to practically live only in the gear forums and have no decent photo galleries to showcase. More often than not on gear forums, ability and words not only don’t match but the gulf can be really wide, beware of internet hot air!

No post-production tricks going-on here, purely as the trusty Canon saw the image, which is remarkable. To the human eye the petals of this Oriental Poppy , are blood red. But as I peered down the lens, my blood bubbled with excitement. I was treated to this spectacular firework display of burning colour. Even the outer edge (which I almost cropped out) to the right looks white hot to me. Who am I to argue with the natural forces that conspired to produce this astonishing image. Who needs Photoshop ...:-)

Providence Canyon State Outdoor Recreation Area is a 1,003-acre (405.90 ha) Georgia state park located in Stewart County in southwest Georgia, United States. The park contains Providence Canyon, which is sometimes called Georgia's "Little Grand Canyon". It is considered one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Georgia. It is also home to the very rare plumleaf azalea.

One of the quirkier attractions of the state park is an abandoned homestead including nearly a dozen rusty, 1950s-era cars and trucks. Due to the environmental damage that removing the vehicles would cause, park officials have decided to leave them alone.

Providence Canyon is not actually a purely natural feature: many of the massive gullies — the deepest of which is more than 150 feet (46 m) — are the result of erosion due to poor farming practices in the 19th century.

This story of the origin of the canyons has been commonplace since the 1940s, but the formations in the canyons are at least partially natural. Although there were probably a few early arrivals before 1825, the first heavy influx of settlers in Stewart County only came after the Treaty of Indian Springs (1825), by which the Creek Indians were forced to cede all their lands east of the Chattahoochee River. Evidence of the existence of the canyons at this time includes their mention in a deed by James S. Lunsford to William Tatam from 1836.

The park lies on marine sediments, usually loam or clay, with small areas of sand. Loamy sand topsoils overlie subsoils of sandy clay loam, sandy clay, or clay in most of the uneroded sections. Nankin, Cowarts, Mobila, and Orangeburg are the most prominent soil series. The canyons have significant exposure to clay, over which water often seeps. Water is mobile in this well-drained area.

Discovered purely by chance. 207 Metres with painted murals all the way.

I made some modifications to Lewis Kiwi's and Maelven's MOCs.

I can't take any credit for the design of the wings, as these Are purely Lewis' design.

However, the cockpit/fuselage is a totally new build and features retractable landing gear.

It was a fun challenge, and I'm really happy with how it turned out.

Huge kudos to Lewis (and Maelven) for supplying the foundation for this build.

It seems I'm amassing a bit of a Republic Armada. What should I tackle next...?

it is purely coinidental that this is my second moon post in a row...the moonlight kept peeking out between the clouds and I had to wait for a break in the clouds to get a decent shot...

The Nags Head Abingdon on a misty night taken in happy days when you could go purely for a drink.

This month I shall be combining a piece of "mainly" British Folk Music with an Image "Stolen" from the Street, or a Museum. or some other "Godforsaken" place.!

Most of the music dates back to the 1970s, some is well know, some is not well know and some is downright weird.!!!!!!!!

This is purely an indulgence, on my part of course, but during this exercise I discovered some great stuff my Grandfather had forgot to tell me about.

ALL the music and all the videos are taken from YOUTUBE.

I will also include a WIKI Bio of the Artists.....History is such an interesting and sad thing...........

Hope you like this little "August Frippery"

A purely experimental image containing home-grown frost, a flashlight, a chuck of shiny blue chalcopyrite, and a Trioplan lens. Read on for how these ingredients interact!

(NOTE: Come see me at the CanAm Photo Expo this year in Buffalo NY March 31 – April 2. Well worth the time with 17 outstanding instructors and I’ll be showcasing all my macro magic in person. Prepare to be educated and inspired: canamphotoexpo.com/ )

We’ve got cold weather. Technically it’s spring when we should be seeing early flowers starting to bloom, but temps have dropped to -18C / 0.4F for a few nights in a row now with more on the way. Trying to continue my winter experiments as the opportunities allow, I placed an ultrasonic humidifier in an outdoor shed and turned it up to full blast. The result in the morning was magnificent – hoarfrost on the shelves and ceiling of the shed, allowing for plenty of photographic ideas to unfold in my mind.

I did some “ordinary” shots of the frost, and I liked them, but they seemed too static and “documentary”. I then experimented with printing gradients of orange-to-blue to place in the background, but it felt too staged and ultimately uninteresting. That’s when I grabbed one of my recent mineral acquisitions, a beautiful blue hue of Chalcopyrite, and placed it behind the frost, far enough to be out of focus.

Knowing that the crystal facets of the mineral will create coloured specular highlights, I knew it was an opportunity for some intense bokeh. I grabbed my trusty Trioplan 100 lens and set out to work with its “soap bubble” bokeh with a composition around one of the larger arms of frost on the top shelf of the shed. I aimed a (very bright) flashlight at the mineral with light spilling off onto the frost with an appropriate balance, and set to work to try and get something in focus.

Interesting, there is no part of the image that I could classify as truly sharp, even though I’ve seen sharpness from this lens at the widest aperture required for the best bokeh, F/2.8 I think this is due to the nature of the frost surface having so many facets that instantly start creating bokeh-like features as soon as focus falls off, and these overlap the areas that would otherwise be in focus as well. I’ve found a number of simple lenses that also generate sizeable chromatic aberration when shooting snowflakes and frost, and this was one of them. Cleaned it up in the frost, but left it in the bokeh for extra subtle ripples of colour.

Even the tip of the frost is fading out of focus and generating interesting bokeh. I shot this with an initial intent to focus stack a few frames together to increase the depth of field, but I fell in love with the abstract nature of the frost falling into the background. It’s a colourful, happy, abstract image. Maybe too colourful and artsy, but that’s where today’s experimentation brought me. I’d love to know your thoughts!

If you’d be interested in hearing musings like this live, with presentations and inventive demos that illustrate exactly how images like this come to life, you should absolutely attend the CanAm Photo Expo in Buffalo NY this year, held at the end of March / Beginning of April. I’m one of many instructors and am honoured to find myself in such a fantastic group of people who educate and inspire: canamphotoexpo.com/ - I’d love to shake your hand in person and show you how my “mad scientist” ideas come about, and how I follow through with them!

Dreispitz – which was formerly known purely for its light industry and warehouses – is being transformed as it fills up with apartments, schools and arts institutions. Well-known names in the contemporary architecture scene have created exciting projects here that have given the area a facelift. And the transformation is still under way. Source : This is Basel

Here you see Corn ’Black Aztec’ a delicious heirloom corn said to have been grown by the Aztecs 2,000 years ago. And a Zea mays 'Strawberry’, ruby-red rounded cobs produced in abundance on this highly ornamental variety.

Once dried, the kernels are simply the best variety for popping!

Flint corn (Zea mays indurata; also known as Indian corn or sometimes calico corn) is a variant of maize (var. Linnaeus), the same species as common corn.

Because each kernel has a hard outer layer to protect the soft endosperm, it is likened to being hard as flint; hence the name.

… et voila, Autumn in the studio.

Purely for the record. The rock face behind is somewhere around 220 to 240 feet high. The wave rose to about 180 feet or more. And it wasn't the biggest of the day! That one was farther out on the cliff. Had to have hit 220 or more but unfortunately I did not get the picture.. Just in awe at the size of it. Pretty shitty weather at this point. Windy and cold with so much moisture in the air it was hard to clean up theses shots for viewing.. Flatrock, NL northside cliffs.

At least the advert isn't for that awful MaxPax coffee that predominated on stations and trains in the late 70s and earlier in the 80s. Usually served hotter than the interior of a blue/white star, I've still got the scars inside my mouth, and any similarity to coffee was purely accidental

The Organibot, is another foray into this scale of figure. The idea was inspired mostly by the description of Keith Thompson's Line Worker. Essentially, the bot is half organic, half mechanic. It still the alien's brain, eyes, hands and feet, but the rest of the system is purely mechanical.

Just another from this great trip with some great friends last winter.

The sky is dramatic on this winter afternoon as a trio of rebuilt SD40M-2s lead New England Central Railroad train 611 (Brattleboro to Palmer turn that forwards the connecting 323/324 road freight traffic) north

beside Upper Farms Road at MP 106 on the Palmer Sub, the former Central Vermont Railroad mainline.

In the lead is NECR 3476 a rebuilt SD40M-2 that began life as an SD45 (and still wears the classic flared car body) blt. Mar. 1969 as SSW 9058. She has a reflective sheen thanks to getting doused with oil on her trip south while she was trailing middle unit 3478 (EMD SD40 blt. Jun. 1966 as LN 1227) which blew its turbo and is now dead in tow. Bringing up the rear is NECR 3477 (originally a straight SD40 blt. Apr. 1966 as UP 3028).
