Papa K has been in the Rehab unit at Blake Hispital since last Tues. night. Everyday, this 96 year old patient wants more from home. He is equipped with a computer, lights, and lots of blankets. He does 4 sessions of OT / PT a day, eats, sleeps, and plays Diablo and watches Youtube videos. So, we will need a moving van when it is time to move his POSSESSIONS home.

Ricordo l’odore della nafta combinato a quello della neve e il bagliore di certe mattine di tramontana, quando gli operatori tentavano di sfondare con le turbine i candidi accumuli alti fino a tre metri, che, anche a ciel sereno, il vento ammassava lungo la salita della Fonte del Coppo e sulle curve di Salmata. Aperta la strada per l’andata si ricominciava a sgombrare quella del ritorno, perché la tormenta in pochi minuti aveva nuovamente intrappolando le auto dirette nelle Marche. La consolare, quella tracciata nel 220 a. C. dal censore Caio Flaminio, con i suoi ponti, le sue gallerie, le sue sostruzioni e i suoi chiavicotti, costituiva il passaggio obbligato per raggiungere Fano, attraverso Pontericcioli, Cantiano e gli intercisa saxa, località - su cui incombeva il profilo del Duce - meglio conosciuta come la Gola del Furlo, superata la quale il peggio era passato. Ricordo ogni curva della Flaminia romana e longobarda, per averla percorsa troppe volte: da bambino in auto con mio padre e da adolescente in sella alla mia moto, con la quale mi spingevo clandestinamente fino all’Adriatico. E’ difficile spiegare, a chi non è nato da queste parti, il fascino che esercita sugli umbri il mare. Forse fu proprio questo retaggio che mi portava a trasgredire le raccomandazioni di mia madre e a spingermi fino all’Adriatico, dove mi bagnavo in fretta i piedi per poi rientrare di volata a casa per non incorrere nella familiare inquisizione. Così correvo sulla strada del ritorno, sfrecciando davanti a Fossombrone, lasciandomi alle spalle Cantiano e tagliando le curve di Purello. Innumerevoli volte ho rischiato di stamparmi su qualche camion proveniente in senso inverso o sul parapetto insidioso del Ponte a Botte, opera ardita gettata sull’orrido che il torrente Serra ha scavato nelle stratificazioni di scaglia rossa, che ancora oggi esercita su di me un fascino misterioso. In nessun altro luogo dell’Appennino gli strati rocciosi sono così ondulati e ripetuti per lunghi tratti come in territorio di Sigillo, quasi che la natura voglia prendersi gioco dell’arte ed entrambe di chi passa. Il tratto più spettacolare è quello che attraversa le rocce corrose della Scarpa del Diavolo, che s’incontra all’uscita del tunnel romano, a nord del Valico di Scheggia. Ricordo che mio padre si segnava quando, superato Gualdo Tadino, passavamo dove nel sessantuno era morto Alberto Talegalli, il popolare "Sor Clemente". Dopo Nocera la strada s’impennava costringendo i mezzi a pieno carico a procedere a passo d’uomo. I miei compagni più grandi s’appostavano sul muro della salita del Picchio, prima del bivio per il Monte Alago e sfilavano uno o due cocomeri sotto gli occhi dei camionisti, che tiravano giù le peggiori imprecazioni, ma senza fermarsi, per timore di non poter riprendere la marcia a causa della forte pendenza, oggi superata dalla realizzazione delle gallerie. Mussolini pretese che la strada fosse tenuta in perfetta efficienza, controllandone personalmente lo stato ogni volta che la percorreva per raggiungere Riccione, la sua spiaggia prediletta. Così si giustifica la presenza delle decine di fontane littorie e dei motti inneggianti al Duce, che ancora si possono leggere su alcuni intonaci, laddove i sindaci più sensibili al rispetto di una effimera democrazia non vi hanno passato una provvidenziale mano di calce. Bisogna ammettere che Mussolini si è prodigato per la Flaminia più di quanto non abbia fatto Forlani, che sebbene fosse nativo di Pesaro non dette mai esecuzione alle promesse sbandierate nel corso di quarant’anni di potere democristiano. Questa strada fu anche il tragico scenario della ritirata delle truppe tedesche incalzate dagli anglo-americani, che prima di raggiungere la Linea Gotica, demolirono mura e tagliarono piante secolari, nell’inutile intento di intralciare il passo agli inseguitori. Durante le Mille Miglia, le popolazioni locali si accalcavano sulle banchine per incitare Tazio Nuvolari, che perse il cofano a Gaifana e senza scomporsi proseguì la corsa fino a Foligno. Ma la vera disgrazia della Flaminia ebbe inizio con la realizzazione dell’autostrada del Sole, che gli usurpò il ruolo di asse principale di collegamento con la via Emilia e quindi con il nord, da Milano a Trieste. Oggi il tratto umbro si sta separando dal suo tracciato originario, troppo antropizzato. Gli spezzoni che rimangono sono impraticabili per via del traffico interno di mezzi pesanti, in entrata e in uscita dalle molte industrie, la maggior parte delle quali –se si eccettuano la Merloni e la Rocchetta – sorte a seguito della ricostruzione. Superato il bivio per Fabriano gran parte del flusso viene dirottato sull’asse Perugia-Valfabbrica-Ancona, per evitare le strozzature e gli ostacoli naturali. Il nuovo tratto su viadotto, che dalle gallerie di Nocera dovrebbe arrivare a Gualdo, è terminato, ma di fatto inutilizzabile per via del dislivello rilevato nel punto di congiunzione dei due segmenti, appaltati ad imprese diverse. In sostanza non ci si è messi d’accordo sulla quota altimetrica da adottare, una cosuccia da niente. Mettiamoci l’anima in pace: i potenziamenti promessi non saranno mai realizzati. Al massimo sarà terminato l’innesto di Fossato per consentire lo scorrimento verso Fabriano. Qui la Flaminia nuova cesserà il suo corso. I detrattori si fanno scudo della sua posizione decentrata rispetto agli assi infrastrutturali privilegiati della rete viaria nazionale ed ai corridoi della rete trans-nazionale Europea (TEN). Sono addotte difficoltà d’adeguamento degli standards di piattaforma e di sicurezza, oltre all’impossibilità di conferire all’arteria fluidità nei collegamenti. In verità sono in gioco interessi diversi. E pensare che la Flaminia favorì l’incorporazione dell’intera regione nello stato romano, la concessione dei diritti politici alle popolazioni locali e la trasformazione in municipi delle antiche città umbre. Se non altro per questo non andrebbe dismessa. Semmai congelata, fino a quando l’umanità non avrà partorito un altro illuminato censore, mandato a liberare l’Umbria dal suo eterno isolamento.
