chdh est une performance hybride live, proposant une symbiose entre le son et l'image. Entre le minimalisme et l'industriel, chdh crée un univers unique, froid mais organique.
Grâce à l'utilisation d'algorithmes mathématiques et de modélisations physiques, chdh apporte une nouvelle vision de l'utilisation d'outils informatiques dans la création musicale. L'utilisation d'objets audiovisuels, ayant une composante sonore et une composante vidéo pilotées par les mêmes paramètres de contrôle autorise une gestion efficace des relations entre les deux médiums.
Ce projet évoque un monde virtuel, constitué de créatures abstraites plus ou moins autonomes. L'esthétique de la vidéo et du son est minimaliste : sinus, diracs et bruits interagissent avec des cubes, des sphères et d'autres formes primitives en 3D dans un environnement visuel noir et blanc.
Le rôle de chdh en concert est de jouer avec le mouvement de ces objets, afin de les faire vivre et réagir. Deux musiciens manipulent les instruments en utilisant une couche abstraite, representation informatique de l'objet audiovisuel. Chaque algorithme crée alors des données utilisées pour la synthèse de la vidéo et le la synthèse du son, créant une forte cohésion dans la performance.

Controllable via midi from the monome, the iphone via RJDJ (plays along with sung melodies or controllable via touch screen), and your favorite DAW/sequencers, e.g. Jakob Penca's iLoveAcid sequencer
RJDJ scene on the iphone, PD patch receiving the RJDJ data, Java app receiving midi data and sending commands to an Arduino running Firmata firmware to control 6 servos.

Avant de travailler avec un dispositif numérique à partir de Puredata, d'un webcam et d'un vidéoprojecteur, il y a eu deux tentatives pour utiliser un rétroprojecteur.
Le manque de possibilité d'agrandissement était trop limitant. D'autre part le manque de définition des images et de leurs couleurs n'aidait pas.
Before working with a digital setup with Puredata, a webcam and a videoprojector, I tried using an overhead proector.
The enlargement of the pictures was limited. And the quality of the pictures and their colours did not help either.

The Sonic Garden is commissioned by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and is part of the InTransit Festival (artist led walks and installations). It is also part of the London Festival of Architecture and the Chelsea Festival. The venue is World's End Place on the King's Road, and the installation runs from 22nd June (live art launch 6.30pm) to 16th July.
