European Eagle Owl - Bubo bubo bubo

The largest species of owl, the European Eagle Owl is approx 0.7 metres in height. Eagle Owls can take prey as large as buzzards or herons, however when food is scarce they will catch earthworms and fish.

This beautiful bird flew silently over our heads during a fantastic display and was just pure magic!

Stanier 'Jubilee' class 4-6-0 No.45699 'Galatea' made a very welcome return to Carlisle on 23rd October 2013, this time working without the assistance of a 'fire-risk' diesel. This was the very first 'Jubilee' that I saw, (at Eastleigh shed of all places!), so I just had to capture a Carlisle departure, a centre where I saw many of the remaining class members active in the mid-1960's. Evoking memories of Summer Saturday extras, 'Galatea' makes a spirited start from the Border City, opening up just clear of London Road tunnel heading the return 'Cumbrian Mountain Express' to London Euston via the Settle-Carlisle line (with electric traction taking over at Farington Junction), and with no headboard attached, much to my delight. The sunlight at just the precise moment was an incredible stroke of luck and called for a quick exposure. adjustment. It was pure joy to witness this, hence the caption title.

There's nothing like 100% Pure Maple Syrup from the area where you live.

I normally don't post portrait photos but this time I wanted to make an exception because I want to honor a very special man. Yesterday after a very long illness my friend Stuart King passed away and the world is a sadder place for it. Stuart was a very talented musician and I am so happy that I had the chance to take a few photos of him and this one is my favourite. Why? because it shows the pure joy he felt playing his guitar. Stuart will live on through his music and so will never be forgotten ❤️

For Macro Mondays..the theme was Pure Joy and for me that means delicious melt-in-my-mouth shortbread cookies at Christmas ...

but now I think I misread the direstions and I am posting this too late ..oh well!
