I wanted to learn how to sew properly, and get some better skills. Oliver + S patterns are a fabulous way to do this, the patterns are extraordinarily easy to follow and the directions are precise. It’s like doing a little course in dressmaking.

Studying the details that make the puppet who he is, then forgetting perfection and just reaching for the "essence", becuse as the puppet said, "I have lots of essences!" (So much fun, I cold have continued with his other poses, but I had to move on to housework.)

Puppets Up! in Almonte, Ontario

I got so engrossed in making this puppet, I forgot to take in-progress photos. To conserve materials, the body was made from scrap foam core and styrofoam with a couple 1 X 2 for a spine. The dredlocks and strings are 99 Cent Store ropes. The hands were from some 99 Cent Store (Love that place) jump ropes. The top one has an eyebolt to keep it on the strings, while the lower hand is free to slap. The puppet was supposed to be a cactus, but came out looking more like a watermellon.
