Little pup. One ear up and one ear down!

in his signature pose.

At 15 years 7 months we still call him and his brother Frodo "the pups." The last of the dogs we raised from birth. Cholie has some nerve damage affecting his back legs, but otherwise he is a happy and healthy boy.

A trip to the Southern Ocean isn’t just about penguins—although we absolutely love them. All millions of them.

But this time, it was the seal pups that completely stole our hearts.

Clumsy, curious, dramatic, and full of attitude, they bounced, flopped, and charged around like they owned the place. One minute they were bravely posturing, the next they were tripping over their own flippers or collapsing into an exhausted nap. Big personalities packed into small, awkward bodies.

Well over 1,500 grey seal pups are born every November at Donna Nook on the Lincolnshire Coast, peaking around the 3rd week. This is one of the photos that I didn't post from last year's visit when in total 2,207 pups were born.

It’s pupping season again for the grey seals. This little one was looking playful on the dunes at Donna Nook last weekend

I've been photographing five coyote pups lately but always found them playing in front of an ugly fence. I decided to go around back and see what would happen. I was busy photographing some insects when I heard five or six barks and looked up in time to see a pup run into the bushes. Thirty seconds later, another one showed up. The pup pictured above is the third to appear and he was a little more graceful about allowing his portrait to be taken. Eventually I got so many shots that I like, it was hard to know what to post first. More to come! Oh, and if you'd like to see a video of this little guy and his siblings, you can have a look here.

Enjoy your weekend, everybody!

Is it just me or has she got kind of a Wednesday Addams thing going on with this outfit? XD

One of the few highlights of 2020, this seal pup was literally posing for us. I wanted to share this kind of experience with my wife, and one of the reward to do so, was to see her face glowing at the sight of this beautiful creature. A moment that made 2020 more bearable.

The angle light in the image is all real. It is a result of sun light that escape from the tree foliage. These Coyote family is in the middle of the forest and lack of direct sunlight makes it very difficult to get the pups in a good light.

Finally I have taken some nature photos!

Yesterday I had a day out with a friend, part of which was to see the grey seals at Donna Nook.

We were lucky with the weather and though there were far fewer seals than on previous visits there I got better views and photos.

This was one of my favourite pup photos. This was one of many that were right up against the fence that stops the seals and humans mixing and I had to lean far over to get the photo.

There were quite a variety of colours in the pups.

I received a mixture of comments regarding the Hanging out to dry image, so I felt it necessary to explain how I did it. If you're interested, have a look at the blog post above that reveals the secret!

All four of North Shore's "Pups", GE steeplecabs, are at the Pettibone yard enginehouse in North Chicago, 2/12/62. They got the nickname when the first ones were delivered, being called "Big Puppies". They were larger than the 2 original steeple cabs that had been purchased by the Chicago & Milwaukee Electric predecessor. Photo by Ed DeRouin, from my collection.

Next picture of a wolf pup...

This seal pup had a keen interest in me as I did to her, after watching over her for a week near low tide, I guess she became aware of me and it did not seem to bother her having me near by, although I did keep my distance using my zoom lens.

I'm fairly confident that the title of this image hasn't appeared on Flickr before. Featuring an Indri mother and her pup.

The Indri is the largest of the lemurs, and can be found only in this part of Madagascar (Andasibe).

Two pups from different mothers, (Cows only have one pup each year whilst fertile). Over a week old at this stage and quickly fattening up on mother's fat rich milk and now getting more adventurous.

Grey seal pups weigh about 14 kg at birth and have soft white fur. They remain on land where they suck from their mother for 18-21 days. A female’s milk contains up to 60% fat, so pups grow very quickly, gaining about 2 kg in weight each day. This weight gain consists mainly of a layer of blubber below their skin, which is vital insulation when they go to sea.

Pups stay on land until they have lost their white coats and trebled their body weight.

Grey seal pups are very vocal. Their cries sometimes sound like a human baby crying. This is normal behavior that helps mothers find their pups on crowded beaches . The cows do not feed while nursing pups.

This day's (24/11/2023) numbers, as reported by Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust ,

1607 pups, 1568 cows and 404 bulls

Sorry for those who commented on the original image - I made the image public before I realized I needed to make the 4 images square!

Just having some fun with Cola and MS Photodraw! Lost some of the clarity but I'll have to work on that!

I changed the title thanks to getthebubbles!

I met this little pup while I was at a rose garden the other day.

Look at the smile that appeared just as I asked if I could take a photo.

This shot is a tribute to the Pup who we lost unexpectedly about 9 months ago. He had gotten into something that was toxic that took him quickly.

This was one of his favourite areas to explore down here in the desert. So I think it's a fitting shot for him.

This is the first landscape shot I have taken since then. Definitely lost all urge to grab the camera.

This shot was taken down in the Palm Springs Area of California.

We do have a new pup, but he's still got some learning to do. But I'm sure he'll do just fine as time moves on
