Sometimes you just get really lucky.

There is a light veil of haze over the forest in front of my vantage point on mt. small Winterberg in den Elbe Sandstone Mountains. Thin enough to still be able to see the trees clearly and dense enough to adequately diffuse the light of the rising sun. The sun appears punctually and in the perfect spot on the horizon to send its rays into the fog from behind. Finally, the trees are covered with a still delicate fresh green.

The result can be seen here. The whole forest begins to glow. A magical sight that left me with a feeling of deep gratitude.

The biggest problem I had at that point (if I may call it that) was deciding which section to photograph and which not to photograph. That's why it couldn't stop with this one here.

 

Manchmal hat man einfach absolutes Glück. Über dem Wald vor meinem Aussichtspunkt auf dem kleinen Winterberg im Elbsandsteingebirge liegt ein leichter Schleier aus Dunst. Dünn genug, um die Bäume noch deutlich sehen zu können und dicht genug, um das Licht der aufgehenden Sonne ausreichend zu streuen. Die Sonne erscheint pünklich und an der perfekten Stelle am Horizont um Ihre Strahlen von hinten in den Nebel zu senden. Schlußendlich sind die Bäume mit noch zartem frischen Grün bedeckt.

Das Ergebnis ist hier zu sehen. Der ganze Wald beginnt zu leuchten. Ein magischer Anblick, der in mir ein Gefühl tiefer Dankbarkeit zurück gelassen hat.

Das größte Problem, welches ich zu diesem Zeitpunkt hatte (wenn ich es denn so nennen darf) war zu entscheiden, welchen Ausschnitt ich fotografiere und welchen nicht. Es ist deswegen nicht bei diesem einen hier geblieben.

He’s back! It’s been amazing to hear the sprightly song of my favorite male yellowthroat singing out from the wet area behind my house. It’s nice to see that his punctuality hasn’t left him; this is probably the fourth year in a row I’ve had him return in the third week of April. He remains as friendly as ever, and despite the cutting down of his favorite cattails only a week before his return, is still right at home in the habitat he’s frequented for quite a while now. In addition to him, the other resident male yellowthroats have returned, and a couple Ovenbirds and Wood Thrushes as well. Bring on the rest of the migrants!

That's the thing about collies .. they know exactly what time it is to the nearest minute! ... and are thereon always READY! .. punctuality is the name of the game so be warned :)

The clock tower is a structure to the south of the Sabha Niwas. It is a sign of European influence in the Rajput court as the clock was installed in a pre-existing tower in 1873. The clock, purchased from Black and Murray & Co. of Calcutta, aimed to introduce a little Victorian efficiency and punctuality into court proceedings.

Summer ended with two days of downpours.

Punctual as ever. Too quickly catapulted into a gray and cold climate. To think it was 30 degrees last week. A sudden slap. :) and this is the thought of the image. Greetings to summer, a return to the roots, to the immobility. It was a strange summer for everyone. Apparently normal, with people around, on the beaches, sea, sun, boats etc ... (personally seen on TV :)) but each of you knows that it was not "the usual summer".

DeepSkyStacker + Lr - my first attempts to stack photos. Photo consisting of 21 photos with exposure parameters 12 mm, f / 2.8, ISO 3200, 5s - OBO tripod + Manfrotto XPRO 3W.

 

I have calculated that for an observer using a 12mm lens (MFT) and an eye resolution of max 1 "angle (this is for a person with great eyesight and for good eyesight it is 2" angular) - the maximum exposure time for getting the view of unmoving stars is about 4,33 s. Such photos without visible foreground can be snapped and then folded as panels with the foreground not moved into a mosaic.

 

I wanted to check if (O-MD E-M10 Mark II) M.Zuiko 12-40 mm f / 2.8 could work in the landscape field Astro (with the subject of the foreground on the ground) without a head with guidance (sky with stars as mosaic panels ) - please give me an opinion.

 

I am thinking of using Star Adventurer or iOptron Skyguider Pro, but since the results of star formation are punctual, does it make sense to use the head leading to the astro landscape with the subject of the foreground on earth?

 

The blurred glow at the bottom of the photo comes from slowly flowing clouds gently lit by the glare of lights from a city 20 km away (Opoczno).

Another one from the archives, as I haven't had a lot of time to get out lately. This one is to commemorate Bufflehead Day.

 

As a migratory duck, this is one amazing duck, for barring any large storms, it will arrive to winter on our shores on the same day every year. On the 298th day of the year, or October 15th, the first duck will arrive at Shoal Harbour (Tsehum Harbour), Sidney, BC. (Give or take three days). To celebrate the arrival of all the winter water fowl, Sidney started to have a Bufflehead Day, which has now extended to three days of related events around Oct. 15th.

 

Due to two large storms back to back this year, the Buffleheads were really late, arriving on the 21st. This late arrival of an otherwise punctual duck, has only happened twice in two decades...but then they like to ride in on the tail end of a storm... Such smart little ones!

The three facades are particularly rich in contrast: clinker meets stainless steel and bright white plaster. But not only fans of architecture get their money's worth at the Neuer Zollhof: two restaurants on the ground floor of the Gehry buildings, the Meerbar and the Rocca 800 °C, also attract gourmets.

They go out at dusk

Punctually they come out of the woods with the last rays of the sun, thrilling me every time. They drive the camera's light meter crazy. Here a male in winter livery, which I then managed to photograph during an impressive jump, and which I will publish in the future.

NO GIFS AND ANIMATED ICONS, PLEASE!

  

I thought that this last day of the month of August would never come, because it takes away the pleasure of summer, and instead here it is, punctual as clockwork. Explore September 2022.

Gegen Ende des Einsatzes der dieselbespannten EC-Züge im Allgäu ließ die Pünktlichkeit häufig zu wünschen übrig. Gerade beim EC 195 führte dies dazu, daß ein Foto entweder gar nicht mehr oder zumindest nicht wie geplant zustande kam. So auch am 09. November 2020. Pünktlich in Lindau abgefahren, sammelte der Zug bis Hergatz eine halbe Stunde "Plus" ein. Und dann wurde auch noch der später gestartete Nahverkehr vorgelassen. Dies führte dazu, dass das angedachte Motiv bei Unterthalhofen bei Durchfahrt des ECs fast komplett im Schatten lag. Aber nachdem die Loks (218 463 und 452) von der tiefstehenden Sonne noch schön ausgeleuchtet waren, betätigte ich dennoch den Auslöser. Letztlich war es aber nachvollziehbar, dass die DB der Pünktlichkeit der Fernzüge keinen Augenmerk mehr schenkte, fuhren sie doch pandemiebedingt ohnehin praktisch ohne Reisende durch die Gegend. Höchstens ein paar Eisenbahnfreunde gönnten sich noch eine Fahrt im Panoramawagen, um einen persönlichen Abschied von dieser gediegenen Reiseform durch das Allgäu zu nehmen.

 

Towards the end of the diesel hauled EC trains in the Allgäu, the punctuality often fell short. Especially with the EC 195, this led to the fact that a photo either could not be taken at all, or at least not as planned. This was i.e. the case on November 09, 2020, when the train departed on time from Lindau and collected half an hour delay until Hergatz. And then the later started local traffic was also allowed ahead. This led to the fact that the intended motif at Unterthalhofen was almost completely in the shade when the EC passed through. But because the locomotives (218 463 and 452) were still nicely illuminated by the low sun, I nevertheless pressed the shutter release. In the end, it was understandable that the DB no longer paid attention to the punctuality of these long-distance trains, since they were running through the area practically without passengers anyway due to the pandemic. At most, a few railroad enthusiasts took a ride in the panorama car to take a personal farewell to this sophisticated form of travel through the Allgäu.

With 1261 kilometres, train 54 (Tashkent Yuzhniy - Kungrad) is one of the longest-distance passenger services completely inside Uzbekistan, behind the weekly Andijan-Khiva service at 1470km. Our subject leaves the capital at 14:00 on the dot, for an arrival at its terminus in the autonomous Republic of Karakalpakstan at 08:23. When I took that very train earlier, that arrival, too, was punctual - but here, the train is running with a 40-minute delay. Behind O'Z-Y 0102 are thirteen sleeper, Kupe and Platzkartniy coaches (plus the restaurant) for Kungrad, and then seven seater coaches in a different livery, which terminate at Bukhara. Perehezd, 28-05-2021.

Ayer me preguntaba Mª Africa si todos los Odonatos cambian el color de sus ojos con la edad y mi respuesta, por mis observaciones, es que se oscurecen o toman color como en el caso de este jovencísimo macho Onychogomphus forcipatus que los tiene muy claros y terminarán azules.

No los había visto nunca tan claros y no es que fuera algo puntual de la luz, pues le hicimos fotos en sitios diferentes.

Yesterday Mª Africa asked me if all the Odonatos change the color of their eyes with age and my answer, from my observations, is that they darken or take color as in the case of this very young male Onychogomphus forcipatus that has them very clear and will end blue

I had never seen them so clear and not that it was something punctual of the light, because we took pictures of them in different places.

Rails and (real) clouds (and a little bit more) on the opposite side of the entrance to the DIY superstore Bauhaus Halensee (please see the image in the first comment). The entrance to the Bauhaus store is on a fairly high bridge, and the two-story Bauhaus building was built on the premises of the former goods station Halensee which was closed in 1990. The rails on the right of the pretty old signalman's house ("adorned" with the inevitable graffiti) belong to Berlin's extended S-Bahn (city train) network, here the circle line that was completed as early as 1877, but several steps of extension followed. During the Berlin Wall, the circle line was interrupted and was operated independently in both parts of the city.

 

The red train on the bridge is a regional train. Regional trains are typically built as double-deckers, so people with lots of or large pieces of luggage or who bring their bicycles are supposed to stay downstairs, and everyone else can go upstairs (when you zoom in on the train, you can see a huge bicycle sticker). Well, that's the theory. Regional trains are often overcrowded, especially on the line to the Baltic Sea. The people who visited Germany for the Euro 2024 and travelled by train can now tell their personal stories of the DB's (Deutsche Bahn) "efficiency" and (un)punctuality ;)

 

In the background, you can see a few Berlin landmarks: the Berliner Funkturm – the city's first radio tower (opened in 1926) – behind our West Berlin "spaceship", the now closed congress centre ICC. The smaller tower behind the ICC belongs to the RBB TV centre (RBB: Berlin-Brandenburg Broadcasting).

 

The image is an HDR made of a three photo bracketing (combined in HDR Efex). I tweaked it further in Color Efex and in LR to make it a true slider (but then, all my images are sliders).

Este tren de alta velocidad procede de la Estación de Madrid-Puerta de Atocha. Ahora acaba de salir de la Estación Valencia-Joaquín Sorolla, y se dirige a Castellón.

Poco a poco nos vamos aficionando a este tren. Su extraordinaria puntualidad y el hecho de que también circule por líneas que no son de alta velocidad lo hacen especialmente interesante.

High Speed Train (AVE) passing through VALENCIA.

This high-speed train comes from the Madrid-Puerta de Atocha station. Now it has just left the Valencia-Joaquín Sorolla Station, and is heading to Castellón.

Little by little we are quite fond of this train. Its extraordinary punctuality and the fact that it also circulates on non-high-speed lines make it especially interesting.

It’s Nat’l Dance Like a Chicken Day! I decided to celebrate this evening by searching out and photographing the feral chickens of American Canyon. They really are quite amazing.

 

And at “We’re Here!” the gang is celebrating this grand holiday by visiting Dance Like You Don't Know How!

Decided I'm going to try and complete this 365 with more punctuality and rigor.

The Messina-Syracuse railway line runs in a large arc in the area of the city of Augusta. The actual city of Augusta lies on the island cut off on the left in the picture. This Sicilian city is characterized by the strong agglomeration of industrial companies. In the background, for example, an Esso refinery and several shipyards. Otherwise there is an unknown 656 with the relatively punctual IC 722 Siracusa - Messina on the picture.

 

In einem großen Bogen verläuft die Bahnstrecke Messina–Syrakus im Bereich der Stadt Augusta. Die eigentliche Stadt Augusta liegt dabei auf der links im Bild angeschnittenen Insel. Geprägt wird diese sizilianische Stadt durch die starke Agglomeration von industriellen Betrieben. So im Hintergrund bspw. eine Esso-Raffinerie und mehrere Werften. Ansonsten befindet sich noch eine unbekannt gebliebene 656 mit dem verhältnismäßig pünktlichen IC 722 Siracusa - Messina auf dem Bild.

Mignon (Kennst du das Land, wo die Zitronen blühn?) ist der Titel eines Gedichts von Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, das zuerst in Wilhelm Meisters theatralischer Sendung und später in den Lehrjahren gedruckt wurde. Es gehört zu den berühmtesten Gedichten deutscher Sprache und besingt die unter Deutschen verbreitete Italiensehnsucht (Quelle Wikipedia).

Jene hier angesprochen Sehnsucht vieler Deutscher, das wunderschöne Land südlich des Brenners zu bereisen, hat auch mich seit vielen Jahren erfasst. Nicht nur Land und Leute, Flora und Fauna oder Pizza und Pasta strahlen eine beinahe unwiderstehliche Anziehungskraft auf viele Reisende aus, nein, es ist auch der „sanfte Wind [der] vom blauen Himmel weht“, ein Himmel, der am Horizont in das azurblaue Mittelmeer übergeht.

Und hier schließt sich der Kreis zur Eisenbahnfotografie – in den meisten Jahren habe ich die Kamera selten eingepackt, gab es doch genug andere Dinge zu bestaunen, als sich auch im Urlaub für Züge auf die Lauer zu legen. Das hielt so lange an, bis ich eines Tages ein Bild des ÖBB NightJets aus La Spezia nach Wien entdeckte, als er den Ort Manarola erreichte. Von nun an war für mich klar, dass dieser Ort in Ligurien, einer der sogenannten Cinque Terre, alsbald besucht werden musste. Im Gegensatz zum Herkunftsland von Goethes funktioniert der Bahnverkehr in Italien reibungslos, die Züge fahren pünktlich, sie sind klimatisiert und Reisen mit der Bahn sind mehr als preiswert. Es empfiehlt sich in Ligurien das Auto nahe der Unterkunft stehen zu lassen und fortan die Dienste der Trenitalia zu nutzen. Angekommen in Manarola gilt es sich zuallererst zu orientieren, denn der Bahnsteig ist stark frequentiert, die Temperaturen heiß, das Stimmengewirr laut. Durch einen Tunnel gelangt man vom Bahnhof in knapp zehn Minuten in den Ort, der aufgrund seiner Bekanntheit als Teil der Cinque Terre in den Sommermonaten von Touristen überrannt wird. Das faszinierende an den Cinque Terre ist ihre beeindruckende Hanglage, es geht aus dem Meer unmittelbar steil bergan und so muss auch der Eisenbahnfotograf Meter um Metter empor, eine kleine Abzweigung im Ort nicht verpassen, um durch ein verwinkeltes Gassengeflecht oberhalb des Ortes eine kleine Aussichtsplattform am Ende der Via Belvedere zu erreichen. Der Ausblick ist sagenhaft, es eröffnet sich ein 360-Grad Panorama mit Blick auf den Bahnhof und das schier unendliche blaue Meer. Allerdings sollte eines zwingend beachtet werden, der Fotostandort bietet keinen Schatten, das heißt, man steht im August in der prallen Sonne bei sommerlichen Temperaturen von deutlich über 37 Grad. Die einzige Möglichkeit, dies über eine längere Zeit unversehrt zu überstehen, ist es, auf dem Boden vor einer kleinen Mauer Schatten zu suchen. Dies bedeutet allerdings, dass man die Gleise und womöglich auch herannahende Züge nicht im Blick hat. Aber auch für diesen Fall bietet jener einzigartige Fotospot Abhilfe: die italienische Staatsbahn verkündet über die Lautsprecheranlage am Bahnsteig jeden ankommenden und vor allem jeden durchfahrenden Zug. Aufgrund der guten Akustik ist die Ansage bis hinauf gut zu hören und so wagte ich mich aus dem Schatten als folgende Durchsage erklang: "Attenzione treno in transito al binario due allontanarsi dalla linea gialla!"

 

Ein durchfahrender Zug auf Gleis zwei bedeutet zwangsläufig, dass kein Regionalzug, sondern ein Zug des Fernverkehrs, oder ein Güterzug den Bahnhof La Spezia Centrale verlassen hat und sich entlang der ligurischen Küste auf den Weg nach Genova (dt. Genua) gemacht hat.

 

Im vorliegenden Bild passiert 483 307-1, in Diensten der Medway Italia, den Bahnhof von Manarola mit einem vollen Containerzug aus dem MSC-Terminal in La Spezia nach Genua.

It’s not just the land and people, the flora and fauna, or the pizza and pasta that exert an almost irresistible pull on many travelers. No, it is also the "gentle breeze [that] blows from the blue sky," a sky that merges into the azure Mediterranean Sea at the horizon.

This brings me back to railway photography – for many years, I rarely packed my camera, as there were always so many other things to marvel at, and it seemed almost unnecessary to focus on trains even during a holiday. That was until one day, when I discovered a photo of the ÖBB NightJet from La Spezia to Vienna as it passed through the village of Manarola. From that moment, it was clear to me that this place in Liguria, one of the so-called Cinque Terre, had to be visited soon.

Unlike in Goethe's home country, Italy’s railway system operates smoothly: the trains are punctual, air-conditioned, and traveling by train is remarkably affordable. In Liguria, it's advisable to leave the car near your accommodation and instead take advantage of Trenitalia’s services. Upon arrival in Manarola, the first task is to orient yourself, as the platform is heavily trafficked, the temperatures are high, and the noise of voices is loud. A tunnel leads from the station to the village in about ten minutes. During the summer months, the place is overrun by tourists, as it is part of the famous Cinque Terre.

What is fascinating about the Cinque Terre is their impressive cliffside location. From the sea, the land rises steeply, so the railway photographer must climb meters and meters, never missing a small detour in the town, to reach a winding maze of alleys above the town. Here, a small viewpoint at the end of Via Belvedere awaits. The view is breathtaking, offering a 360-degree panorama with views of the station and the seemingly endless blue sea.

However, one thing should be kept in mind: the photo spot offers no shade, meaning that in August, you stand in the blazing sun, with summer temperatures well over 37°C. The only way to endure this for a longer period without harm is to seek shade on the ground in front of a small wall. However, this means you may not have a clear view of the tracks, or any approaching trains. But even in this case, this unique photo spot provides a solution: the Italian State Railways announce every arriving and passing train over the loudspeakers at the station. Thanks to the excellent acoustics, the announcement can be clearly heard even up here, and so I ventured out of the shade when the following announcement echoed: "Attenzione, treno in transito al binario due. Allontanarsi dalla linea gialla!"

 

A passing train on track two inevitably means that no regional train, but a long-distance or freight train has left the station La Spezia Centrale and is heading along the Ligurian coast towards Genoa (Genova in Italian).

 

In the present picture, 483 307-1, in service with Medway Italia, passes Manarola hauling a fully-loaded container train from the MSC terminal in La Spezia to Genoa.

Normalerweise ist der DGS 43821 von Bremen Grolland nach Verona Q.E. einer der wenigen Güterzüge, der so pünktlich unterwegs ist, dass man fast die Uhr danach stellen kann. Am 18. Mai 2022 wies der KLV-Zug jedoch eine leichte Verspätung auf, so dass man diesen im Waldstück zwischen Grafing und Assling fotografieren konnte. Zuglok war die 185 662, die regelmäßig für diese Leistung herangezogen wird.

 

Normally, the DGS 43821 from Bremen Grolland to Verona Q.E. is one of the few goods trains that is so punctual that you can almost set the clock by it. On 18 May 2022, however, the intermodal train was slightly late, so that it could be photographed in the woods between Grafing and Assling. The locomotive was 185 662, which is regularly used for this service.

The color of light changes automatically every few seconds and is reflected by metal panels covering the walls and ceiling.

Public transport is so punctual in Hamburg that I could only capture the trains with one single set of lights.

I have a terrible default or maybe it is a quality, it is depend !!!!!! I can not bear the people who are always late by habit. People in my area has a bad habit to arrive always late about 15 minutes after time when they are invited. I use to be on time always.

Am 23. August 2024 ließ ich mich zu einem Ausflug ins Ostallgäu überreden. Ziel sollte sein, die orientrote 218 406 vor dem IC-Zugpaar 2084/85 zu fotografieren. Im Nachhinein bin ich sehr froh, die Tour unternommen zu haben, konnte dadurch doch unwissentlich eine der letzten Fahrten des "Nebelhorns" auf der Allgäubahn dokumentiert werden. Wenige Tage später verkehrte die Verbindung zum letzen Mal. Es trat beim Stellwerk in Oberstdorf ein gravierender Schaden auf, die Weichen zu den Abstellgleisen mit der Zugvorheiz-Anlage können nicht mehr angesteuert werden. Die Reparatur scheint so aufwändig zu sein, dass man lieber gleich das Fernzug-Angebot eingestellt und für 2025 gar nicht erst bestellt hat. Alternative Möglichkeiten zur Abstellung und zur Zugbehandlung gibt es im Allgäu ebenfalls keine mehr. Was wie ein Schildbürgerstreich klingt, ist leider symptomatisch für den Zustand der Deutschen Bahn. Am besagten 23. August 2024 kam die mustergültig in den Zustand der frühen Epoche V zurück versetzte 218 406 mit ihrem IC 2084 nach Hamburg Altona fast pünktlich die Günzacher Steige hinauf gefahren und konnte von mir bei Mittelberg aufgenommen werden. Die zwei Kühe ließen sich von der Durchfahrt des Zuges nicht irritieren - als hätten sie es geahnt, dass sie künftig beim Grasen ohnehin nur noch von Triebwagen der Baureihen 612 und 633 und mit viel Glück (aus Sicht eines Eisenbahnfreundes) durch einen Güterzug gestört würden.

 

On 23 August 2024, I was convinced to take a trip to the Ostallgäu. The aim was to photograph the Orient red 218 406 in front of the IC train pair 2084/85. In retrospect, I am very glad that I undertook the trip, as it enabled me to unknowingly document one of the last journeys of the ‘Nebelhorn’ on the Allgäu railway. A few days later, the train ran for the last time. There was serious damage to the control centre in Oberstdorf and the switchyard sidings to the tracks with the train pre-heating system could no longer be controlled. The repair seems to be so costly that the long-distance train service has been cancelled and not even ordered for 2025. There are also no alternative options for heating and train handling in the Allgäu region. What sounds like a prank is unfortunately symptomatic of the state of Deutsche Bahn. On 23 August 2024, 218 406, which had been perfectly restored to the condition of early Era V, drove up the Günzacher Steige almost punctually with its IC 2084 to Hamburg Altona and I was able to take a picture of it near Mittelberg. The two cows were unperturbed by the train's passage - as if they had guessed that in future they would only be disturbed while grazing by class 612 and 633 railcars and, with a lot of luck (from a railway enthusiast's point of view), by a freight train.

Tuvimos ocasión de ver otro puente para ferrocarril sobre este cauce. Pero aquél, que comunica con la zona de La Torre, está electrificado. Este que vemos en la imagen no lo está, y se corresponde con la línea C-3 de Cercanías de Renfe.

El tren que vemos (592.302M.502M) procede de la Estación de Xirivella-Alqueries. Tenía su salida para Valencia programada a las 14:27 y ha sido puntual. Se desplaza hacia la derecha (|----->) de manera que una vez que haya cruzado el puente se dirigirá hacia la Estación de Valencia-Sant Isidre, donde está previsto el final de su trayecto.

Renfe commuter train crossing the bridge over the new Turia riverbed. VALENCIA

We had the opportunity to see another railway bridge on this river. But that, which communicates with La Torre, is electrified. This, that we see in the picture is not, and corresponds to the line C-3 of Cercanías Renfe.

The train we see comes from the Xirivella-Alqueries railway station. It had scheduled its departure for Valencia at 14:27 and has been punctual. It moves to the right (| ----->) so when it has just crossed the bridge will head to the station Valencia-Sant Isidre, where the end of its journey is planned.
