Description: Powwows are large social gatherings of Native Americans who follow traditional dances started centuries ago by their ancestors, and which continually evolve to include contemporary aspects. These events of drum music, dancing, singing, artistry and food, are attended by Natives and non-Natives, all of whom join in the dancing and take advantage of the opportunity to see old friends and teach the traditional ways to a younger generation. During the National Powwow, the audience see dancers in full regalia compete in several dance categories, including Men and Women's Golden Age (ages 50 and older); Men's Fancy Dance, Grass and Traditional (Northern and Southern); Women's Jingle Dress, Fancy Shawl, and Traditional (Northern and Southern); Teens (13-17); Juniors (6-12) and Tiny Tots (ages 5 and younger). The drum groups are the heart of all powwows and provide the pulsating and thunderous beats that accompany a dancer's every movement. The powwow is led by three "host drums" that showcase three distinct styles of singing (Northern, Southern and contemporary) and represent the best examples of each style. The drum contest highlights groups of 10 to 12 members each, and they sing traditional family songs that are passed down orally from one generation to the next. The National Museum of the American Indian sponsored the National Powwow in 2002, 2005, and 2007 as a way of presenting to the public the diversity and social traditions of contemporary Native cultures.

Heartbeat by Charles Pétillon

Installation August-September 2015

 

Heartbeat stretches 54 metres in length and 12 metres in width, and incorporates gentle pulsating white light to symbolise the beating of a heart and reflect the history, energy and dynamism of the district.

Charles Pétillon said: “The balloon invasions I create are metaphors. Their goal is to change the way in which we see the things we live alongside each day without really noticing them. With Heartbeat I wanted to represent the Market Building as the beating heart of this area – connecting its past with the present day to allow visitors to re-examine its role at the heart of London’s life.

“Each balloon has its own dimensions and yet is part of a giant but fragile composition that creates a floating cloud above the energy of the market below. This fragility is represented by contrasting materials and also the whiteness of the balloons that move and pulse appearing as alive and vibrant as the area itself.”

....ANYWAY, weitergings. Das hier is the brand new... or brand old He-619 Nachthuehner, which means Nightfowl. It's a duck. It looks like one, and it even quacks like one. No seriously, the pilots are trained to fire the 20mm miniguns in the wing roots in a sort of pulsating rhythm that makes it sound like it's quacking. I don't even know why. I guess the Luftwaffe thinks it's like, the new Jericho trumpet. It's also got four 30mm cannons, I dunno if that adds to the effect or not. But that's a lot of guns.

 

The long and the short of it is, we needed a new cheap aircraft to fulfill two roles: close air support, and forward air control. What's that, you might ask? Well there's this thing called the internet, invented by the Kimmerians, you should try using it some time, it's awful. It's really fucking slow.

 

So we took this old plane, the He-419 Uhu (or Owl), and asked Heinkel to turn it into what we wanted. Why this plane? It's a crowd favorite, and the airframe suits the role. It can carry modern weapons and is best suited for modern avionics. Despite the fact that it hardly has any. Don't ask me how that happened.

 

We have a ton of shots of it flying over the shit-stained continent that we call home, and here's the juicy stats. Hey, get used to this, I'm gonna be here for a while. There's more scheiss coming up soon. Em heset net Ra, Kameraden."

Concept art for an application I've got my development team working on. How can Augmented reality be used to serve NGOs, nonprofits and the developmental aid community.

 

In the image above, you see a mobile phone with a bunch of message windows covering an image. In augmented reality applications, there are two views: the real world video image, and an ‘overlay’ of data related to the things seen. This data is entered in the form of geo-cached notes. So, if you have a meeting with someone near a building and leave a geo-cached note, that note is tagged based on your exact latitude, longitude, elevation and orientation. Holding up an AR device while looking at that same spot a year later, I’d see a popup window wherever you dropped the note, time stamped for when you were there, along with whatever notes or files you uploaded to that spot. To make it even simpler, it’s like dropping pins on Google Maps, only in the real world, on real objects. This is why AR has been dubbed, ‘the web of things’ or ‘web squared’, because real-world objects are tracked, tagged and marked-up like a webpages.

 

Already people are recording audio, video, and blogging to keep donors abreast of their work in the field. Imagine making appointments for them to check in for realtime conversations to make sure everything is progressing as planned. Your phone would be a video/chatting device that would allow them to even participate in discussions on the ground in real time. In the image below you can see the AR view more clearly. The top left window has the coordinates of where you are along with the history of that location, and when your organization last visited the spot — all data that could be recorded without the field team ever even knowing it. In the top right you also have photo and video that was recorded by your team at that location at some point in the past, along with notes and files uploaded from that spot.

 

In the top left you have a ‘chat’ pane with images of people that represent donors, contacts at relevant organizations or other team members. The icons indicate that you can call, email or instant massage them while green dots indicate “presence”, if they happen to be online. You can see that one of that chat icons is glowing, indicating that someone has initiated communication. In the bottom right you can see the message they’ve sent and what needs to happen next. The person wants to send the user a file.

 

Below the chat pane, there is an area with numbers. These numbers indicate spending trends, what cash the organization or project as on hand, how much is being spent, and where it’s coming from. In some cases donors might add additional funding based on what they see, read or come to expect. Of course, this area could also show any type of data: tracking the shipment of resources, status updates from team members, emergency info.

 

In the center, a popup bubble has used facial recognition technology to pull up data bout a girl. We can see her bio (the notes someone has left about her and her family) along with her age, history of illness and life expectancy.

 

In the bottom left, we have a map showing our location with a bright red beacon pulsating to show our orientation and location in the country. The orange popup icon displays the name of the specific sub-region we’re located in, in this case the Kucikiro District of Rwanda.

WILLIAM T. YOE, PIONEER EDITOR DIES SATURDAY

One of Best Known Newspaper Men of Southwest

Here Since 1871

 

William T. Yoe, aged editor of the Southwest Kansas Tribune, died at his home, Saturday night, after an illness of a week. He was actively in the harness at his desk until stricken with a slight stroke of paralysis Friday, April 20.

Mr. Yoe had been confined to his home for a week. Saturday morning he suffered a slight stroke of paralysis which was followed in the afternoon by two more strokes, from which he died at 1:17 Sunday morning.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Jennie Yoe, three daughters, Miss Harriett of the home address, Mrs. G. W. Arey of Washington, and A. P. Bryant of Venice, California; four sons, Roy W. of Tyro; George M. of Bartlesville, Okla,; Warren W. of Chison, Washington, and Earl of this city, and ten grandchildren.

Funeral services will probably be held Thursday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock from the Methodist church of which he was the eldest member. The body will lie in state from 11 o’clock until 2 o’clock on Thursday. Those desiring to view the remains call at that time as the casket will not be opened at the church. Burial will be made in Mount Hope cemetery.

An Appreciation

In the death of W. T. Yoe this city lost one of its real builders, a man who not only helped to blaze the way from the great social, civic, industrial and business development that marks the city’s growth and prosperity but one who performed an important and outstanding part in all those things essential to that development. But few individuals, if any, ever made a deeper and more permanent impress on the affairs of this community that did Mr. Yoe during the more than a half century services as editor, public official and active citizen. He was not an outstanding figure in the sense that he was a brilliant editorial writer, or forceful and terse paragrapher, or that he was gifted with any of the exceptional faculties that make conspicuous the noted newspaper man of today, but he was great in his vision and faith, in his ideals and principles of action, in his perception and well balance view pint, in his kindness of heart, his courtesy as a gentleman, and in his devotion to his work, his home town and its institutions and in his unfaltering adherence to those things he believed to be right and in performance of every duty as father, husband, citizen, neighbor and friend.

Denied the benefits of advanced educational advantages in his youth he learned the printer’s trade, and when in company with his brother Charles he established the Tribune in this city, his principal capital was his knowledge of the art preservation of all the arts and his willingness to make the most of his opportunities. With the exception of very few weeks for the fifty-three years he was editor of the Tribune he prepared the larger portion of the copy each week for that paper, and during these early years of struggle for existence he worked every day at the laborous tasks of a printer in a primitive print shop. The columns of the Tribune for those years present an accurate history of this city, it is a history that perhaps contain none of the finished sentence of a Macaulay or the profound analysis of a Guizot, but it is a colorful story pulsating and throbbing with the hopes and achievements, the joys and disappointments, the defeats and victories, the fights, contensions and struggles, the failures and triumphs and the weekly provisional life of a study and determined people transforming a wilderness into a garden and bringing out of wild disorder a social and civic structure marvelous in its magnitude, far reaching in its benefits and admirable in its orderly processes for continuous growth in harmony with the solid foundations on which it rests. And through this whole story so plainly told, there breathes a spirit of optimism and confidence that should be an inspiration for all time, a spirit that never compromised knowingly with wrong or doubted the final success of the right. The day will come when some writer will put the history of this community into concise and attractive form, but no writer, however gifted, can hope to give as complete picture of the past three years, with its rich provincial coloring, its “Main Street” characteristics and all those features big and little that contribute to our daily existence as is found in the weekly news of the Tribune for all that time. But few men had a wider acquaintance than Mr. Yoe in his more active years it is doubtful if there were many families in Montgomery county he was not in touch with to a greater or smaller degree, and certain it is that during those years he knew all the men and women of the country who took a leading part in its religious, educational, political, social and civic life. Generous charitable, friendly, public spirited and ever ready to aid the unfortunate, he made lasting friendships even with those who most bitterly opposed him in his political efforts. The admirable personal traits brought him into close relationship with all the elements of life in the community and enabled him to give his news that personal coloring that made it distinctive, and which gave the history he had left a human touch that the most gifted historian of the future can never hope to equal in dealing with the cold facts of the past.

And when the history of this city is written the name of W. T. Yoe, figuratively speaking, will stand out in letters of god. He may have been narrowly partisan in politics, as his opponents often charged, but when it is remembered that as a young man he was called to duty to fight for the preservation of the union, it is not surprising he tenaciously held to the political organization that developed out of the conflict that so severely tested our very existence as a nation. At the time he had reached the age when the most lasting impressions are made and his whole subsequent career was n doubt influenced by the wounds and scares and bitterness that resulted from the civil war. But however narrow may have seemed his political viewpoint, no political opponent who ever came in touch with Mr. Yoe or who had an opportunity to know of is neighborly kindness, his thoughtful consideration for others, his loyalty to his highest conceptions of duty, and his devotion to family, friends, community and country, every failed to farm for him not only a high opinion but a strong personal attachment. He was a lovable man, and his days in this city were filled with noble acts, kindly deeds and a service to the community never excelled.

In all the fifty-three years his paper never sounded a note of calamity. Its columns were marked by a faith that was sublime, by an optimism that was encouraging. He gathered essential facts and presented them in a way that made them plain to all. He believed in the church, the school, and everything that contributed to the richness and fullness of life. He was often opposed in the editorial field by men far more able as writers and often subjected to attacks from their caustic pens, but through it all he maintained his position and place and was the only one with the exception of his surviving brother to remain in the field through life.

There are but few homes in this county that have been established for a decade but that will feel his death as a personal loss, and there are many homes and countless individuals who will always cherish his memory because of timely assistance and sympathy in the hour of trouble.

It will be a matter for those more intimately associated with Mr. Yoe than the write to properly tell in detail of his useful life and pay fitting tribute to his memory. The writer for nearly forty years was connected with newspaper enterprises in this city either as printer, editor or reporter, which were to a large extent rivals in business and political fields to the Tribune and its editor, and the impressions of Mr. Yoe and his work were formed in this atmosphere. It was an environment to an inflated estimation of Mr. Yoe’s services to his community nor one conducive to fulsome flattery, but it was a place that provided an opportunity for a real appreciation of the worth of a man working in the same filed.

My Brother Has Gone to His Reward

 

W. T. Yoe, Editor of the Tribune, passed to his reward on Sunday morning, April 29th, at 1:15. He retired from his desk at the Tribune office on Friday, April 20th, after his day’s work was completed. He remained at home lying down and sitting around as he felt inclined, until Saturday afternoon, when he expressed a desire to go to his bed upstairs, and was assisted by his daughter and son, Harriet and Earl, who saw him safely to bed. The doctor was called but nothing could be done for him and at 1:15 he passed to his reward.

William Thomas Yoe was the son of Walter and Elizabeth William Yoe, and was born at Port Republic, Calvert County, Maryland on March 26th, 1845. He parents moving to Rushville, Illinois in 1848, where he grew to manhood, and resided until 1866. He entered the printing office at 13 to make his way through life, he continued in that business to the last except about four years. Starting for himself at 13 to make his way through life, he continued to work up to his death. His mother who was so proud of him, passed to her reward when he was only 15 years of age. He was then compelled to depend upon himself, with the careful watching of a loving father and an older brother. He looked after his two younger brothers until he went into the army in Company K, 137th Illinois Infantry. On his return home he entered the Dry Goods Store of Thomas Wilson from where he left to enter the service. Later, in 1865, he got the western fever, and with another young man went to Shelbyville, Missouri, and started in the hardware business, which was not large enough for two, and he concluded to retire and return to his printing trade, as he was competent to hold a position in any office at that time. It was not long until he had a place on the Herald at Shelbina, Missouri, the only paper in the county and it was supporting the Republican party, which had few friends in that locality. It was not long until the business increased and the owners wanted him to take an interest in the office. Without means to secure an interest they sold him a half interest on time. In February 1868 Charles Yoe came out there from their old home in Rushville, Illinois, and went into the office with him and they never separated. Frank Yoe joined his brothers at Shelbina in 1870, and moved to Independence in November 1871.

In 1867 he became associated with the Shelby County Herald at Shelbina, Mo., and in 1868 Charles Yoe became connected with him on the paper and to this time 55 years that association has been continuous. In 1870, he concluded that he would like a broader field and in company with Col. A. M. York, his partner, they visited Independence, Kansas, then a new city of little over a year old. On returning home, after a few weeks thinking the matter over, he decided to come to Independence and risk making a success of the new enterprise, and at one organized the Tribune Company, with Col. York and L. U. Humphrey, and decided to close out the Herald at Shelbina and move it to this city. In February 1871, with L. U. Humphrey , Chas. Yoe and Aura Smith, he started for this city to establish the Tribune which has continued to be issued every week since the 8th day of March, 1871. How well he succeeded we leave the public to say.

The pride of his business career was the loyal support of the employees of the Tribune office from the start down to his last day. Many of them served from twenty-one to thirty-five years and he was pleased when C. A. Connelly, a young boy, who came to the Tribune force over thirty-six years ago, and continued in its service for years, made good and became one of the partners in the business. In the last few years it was made convenient to take his son Earl A. Yoe in as one of the Company, as he had long been the head of the mechanical part of the office, and is a growing young business man. With the appointment of C. A. Connelly as Postmaster, his son Glen C. Connelly, was added to the Company and assigned a place fitting a young man of his ability. Thus the last days of his life saw the coming on of younger men to take his place in the business he had built up so successfully in his time with the aid of his partners and the force of young men and ladies that gave him their loyal support.

In October 1870, he was united in marriage to Miss Jennie E. Weatherby of Shelbina, Mo. To this union seven children survive: Miss Harriet E. Yoe, at home, who has been the constant companion of her father and mother all these years, and their every want has been looked after and he relied and looked to her as he grew older. Roy W. Yoe of Tyro; Edna May Bryant, of Venice, California; Earl A. Yoe, who has been connected with him in the Tribune office, Ruth Arey, of this city, Warren W. Yoe, of Carson, Washington and George H. Yoe, of Bartlesville, Oklahoma. These with his wife as well as two brothers, Charles and Frank Yoe, ten grandchildren and several nephews and nieces living here and in Illinois, are left to mourn his death.

As Editor of the Tribune he has expressed his thoughts and opinions on every subject as it came up each week for over fifty-two years without missing a single issue, and was the oldest newspaper man in Kansas, in constant service for fifty-five years, and fifty-two years of that in the city of Independence. No man ever had a greater pride in seeing his home town grow and advance in every way than he. Today there are but two older business men living in this city than he. He was the oldest member of the Methodist church, a leading member of the Odd Fellow Lodge in his younger days. He served his city in many ways outside of the paper. He was Postmaster in this city under President Arthur. He was a member of the board of trustees that built the present Carnegie Public Library. Under Governor Humphrey, he was appointed a member of the State Board of Charities and held over under Governor Llewelling. During Governor Stanley’s administration he was appointed member of the Board of Regents of the State Agricultural College at Manhattan. In every position he was called to fill his aim was to get the greatest results possible for the public good. He was not extravagant in any manner but wanted the result to reflect credit upon those who had charge of the undertaking.

As a brother in our life work, everything has been as one could wish, nothing but the kindliest feelings in business and social life, and at his going everything is well with us. He watched over us as a brother, always looking to our welfare and success as if it was his own. No brothers could be more in harmony and one accord that were us three, Tom, Charlie, and Frank. He left one of the cleanest records to look back upon than any man could leave to his relatives.

His wife and family that he so cherished and looked after will miss him but his going in peace and without pain is one thing that they can always look to and know that he every want was provided for and it was the way he wished life to end with him.

 

Funeral of W. T. Yoe

 

The funeral of W. T. Yoe, Editor of the Tribune, will be held from the First Methodist Church on Thursday, May 3d, at 3:30, in charge of Rev. Harry Gordon, pastor. His remains will lie in state at his home from eleven until two on Thursday, where the friends can view them. The casket will not be opened at the church.

Yoe, William Thomas Bio

 

William Thomas Yoe was born in Calvert county, Maryland, March 26, 1845, and reared in a Christian home. His parents were Walter and Elizabeth (Harris) Yoe, a native Maryland and Virginia people. In 1848, the parents left their old home and established themselves among the pioneers of Rushville, Illinois. The father was a carpenter and pursued the arts of peace and won the affection and regard of the community. To the three sons, W. T., Charles and Frank F., the parents left the heritage of a good name and an inspiration to righteous and useful lives.

Thomas Yoe, as our subject is universally known, passed his childhood and youth about Rushville, Illinois, where he had some acquaintance with the common schools. His education assumed a practical turn from the age of thirteen years, when he went into a print shop, from which, as a business, he had never been separated. Toward the end of the Civil War he enlisted in Company “K”, One Hundred and Thirty-second Illinois infantry, and saw service at Memphis, Tennessee.

After the war he located at Shelbyville, Missouri, where, for a short time, he was a hardware merchant, and then at Shelbina, where he became associated with Col. A. M. York in the publication of a Republican newspaper. After nearly five years, he decided to exert his energies among the people of the progressive frontier State of Kansas.

In the winter of 1870, he founded, with others, the South Kansas Tribune, and, in February following brought the plant to Kansas and established it in the new town of Independence, in Montgomery county. L. U. Humphrey, afterward governor of Kansas, was associated with the new paper, on its editorial staff. The proprietorship of the “Tribune: came, later, into the hands of W. T. and Chas. Yoe, where, with a single exception, it has since remained.

Mr. Yoe has been a part of Montgomery county nearly a third of a century and has shared in its development work, both rural and urban. Little that has been of general interest to the county has not known his hand, or felt the influence of his voice or pen; and the confidence he thus inspired warranted the conferring of public honors and the bestowal upon him of public trusts. The practical character of his views, his mature judgment and the evident sincerity of his purpose are traits which have commended him through life and marked him as one of the prominent citizens of his city and county. He has been at the head of his newspaper since its establishment and his personal standing has given it weight and power. He has helped make governors and other state officers and furnished effective advice in the distribution of local offices which showed abundant wisdom and brought a strong current of public sentiment to his party’s approval.

As an appointee to public office, Mr. Yoe has rendered his chief public service. President Arthur appointed him postmaster of Independence and he served three years bur resigned upon the election of Mr. Cleveland. Governor Humphrey appointed him sectary of the State Board of Charities, where he remained three years, and Governor Stanley made him a member of the Board of Regents of the State Agricultural College. As a Republican he has occupied a high position in party councils. He has a single standard of honesty and applies it in business, religion and politics, alike. He is an active and leading member o the Methodist congregation in Independence, and the influence of his life is a potent one in the spiritual and material affairs of the church.

In 1870, in Shelbina, Missouri, Mr. Yoe married Jennie E. Weatherby. The issue of this union are: Harriet E, a teacher in the Deaf and Dumb Institution of Kansas; Roy W., a farmer, of Tyro, Montgomery county; Edna May, assistant in the Independence post office; Earl A., a printer in the Tribune office; and Ruth, Warren and George.

"I really wanted something that felt good to perform, but had a techno/dance vibe," Selena says. "I wanted something that had meaning and melody, and more empowering lyrics." That’s exactly what she delivers in "A Year Without Rain." Working with top producer/songwriters like Tim James & Antonina Armato, Kevin Rudolf, Toby Gad and Jonas Jeberg, Selena kept to a more quickened tempo, exploring themes of love, freedom and the joy of living for the moment.

 

Selena credits the album’s neo-techno leanings to her 2010 platinum-certified single, ‘Naturally," which pointed the way for her. That track "really helped me figure out where I want to be," she says. "There’s a feeling when I perform that song that I love, so when I was going back in the studio, I had a better understanding of where I wanted to be musically."

 

She gets right to it with the opening track, "Round & Round," an upbeat synth-driven song about reaching the limits of indecision in love. The plaintive "A Year Without Rain" may be more subdued, but its beauty impressed Selena enough to make it the title track. "When I got the song, I went through the roof," she recalls. "Everybody has that one person they can’t live without. It was exactly what I wanted to say." That goes double for the Spanish version of the song, Selena’s first recording in that language.

 

Having turned 18 this year, Selena has matured since making her professional debut at age 7, but girls still wanna have fun, which is what songs like "Spotlight" "Off the Chain" and "Summer’s Not Hot" are all about. "Rock God" features none other than Katy Perry on backing vocals, while "Intuition" boasts a duet between Selena and rapper Eric Bellinger in a tricked-out double-time salute to a positive attitude.

 

Selena slows things down on "Ghost of You," a ravishing ballad about a breakup so rough, no amount of "living crazy loud" can crush the memory. "It’s very beautiful, very raw," Selena says of the song. "Shelly Peiken co-wrote it. She knows me, knows about everything I go through, and knows how to express it in a beautiful way."

 

On the flip side, Selena comes back strong with "Sick of You," a Matt Squire-written and produced track about losing a loser ("You know fairy tales don’t come true/ Not when it comes to you"). The album ends with "Live Like There’s No Tomorrow," an epic power ballad expressing the creed by which Selena has built her life and career.

"On my TV show we have an ensemble cast that’s like a family," she says. "If anyone’s missing, you feel it. I wanted that family feel in my music, and we definitely have that with the Scene."

I spontaneously remarked:"wll said. Shall I narrate an interesting episode?- The other day one of my books of the 19th century French Verse disappeared from my desk, over which I was very upset. I looked for it and didn’t find it. Undoubtedly somebody had stolen it and a few days later Lo and behold! I suddenly came across it in the prose-poems of a modern poet".

 

"Who is he? Is he a telugu friend?" queried Mac Diarmid innocently.

 

One night a dream entered me, a technicoloured dream, it spread over the multidimensional screen of my mind. Jean Cocteau and I were sitting together and smoking opium.

 

"Opium is the only vegetable substance which communicates the vegetable state to us. Through it we get an idea of that other speed of plants" Picasso who was sitting across the table rejoined." the smell of opium is the least stup9id smell in the world. The only smell one can compare with it is the smell of circus or a seaport".

 

Jeau Cocteau,"The smell spreads magic; flies gather round the tray and dream, the lizards with their little mittens swoon on the ceiling above the lamp and wait for the". I said; you carried opium from our continent but we do not know the secrets of opium as much as you people do-

 

Cocteau replied: "young Asia no longer smokes because grand father smoked, Young Europe smokes because grand father did not smoke. Since, Alas, Young Asia imitates young Euorope,it is through us that opium will return to its starting point".

 

As the conversation progressed, my mind began to evaporate. Like volatile camphor it melted into the air." Why am I feeling like this" I asked aloud.

 

Cocteau:"don"nt wake up. Once a poet wakes up he is stupid I mean intelligent, where am I? he asks, like ladies who fainted. Notes written by a poet who is awake are not worth much"." Then how does one understand the writings of a poet whose head is buried in dreams" asked Cocteau" A poet, unless he is politician’’’’’ must only count on readers who know his language, the spirit of his language, the spirit of his language and the soul of his language. It is unlike a poet to crave for masses of readers." Eliot intervening said," I entirely agree with you. A political association may help to give poetry immediate attention. It is in spite of this association that the poetry will be read If it is read tomorrow. Beacause unless the political matter is humanised and transformed into poetry it deserves to be forgotten".

 

"Yes unless you become an idiot you cannot become a poet. If you smoke a few puffs of opium you wouldn’t be within yourself recommend the patient to burry his head in his arms, to glue his ears to that arm, and wait…. Cataststrophes, riots, factories blowing up, armies in fligfht, floods: the ear can detect a whole apocalypse in the the starry night of the human body."

 

By then, time and distance disappeared in me. The symphony of sounds and oceans began to rage within me. From out of those tumultuous waves arose Pablo Neruda holding out his poem"Mcchu Picchu"…

 

"Arise to birth with me, my brother" his shout rent the air, stamping his feet on the waves he cried aloud-

 

"Let me have back the slave you buried here! Wrench from these lands the stale-bread of the poor".

 

The smoke of opium spread all over the room. Flies began to dream, lizards began to swoon clutching at the walls, and the mosquitoes began to float in utter abandon. Crowds of yellow dreams and full-throated voices of brown races of the earth began to speak. Ishikawa Takuboku was reciting in his deep Japanese voice.

 

"My character is an unhappy character. I a weakling with a marvellous sword inferior to none. I can’t stand it unless I fight and yet I am unable win, that means that death is the only possible course for me. But I dislike the thought of death. I don’t want to die! Then how am I to live?"

 

Love which is another form of humanity, another name of conscientiousness, fearlessness and honesty, love which fuses unknown human being together and brings the entire mankind into the crucible of history to celebrate TIME as a saga of peace and prosperity. Love which makes man brandish his iron fists in fury against the injustice perpetrated on fellowmen, Love which makes man dig his axe into the evil force that obstruct justice and make oblations in blood to the murdered humanity in our own century. In such ddays, when love is trampled and desecrated those that ignore sentiment are setting bloody trends in poetry using it as a ladder to climb peaks of fame: exploiting the blood and sweat of the dumb millions for making crowns to adorn their own heads: hycracy, theft, envy, hatred and ignorance are spreading like epidemics in the exalted field of poetry.

 

In such times, the man in whom peaks that kiss the skies, the skies that take into their blue arms the pure winds, the innocent winds that speak in hush voices the language of flowers; the flowers that spit flaming colours on the brute and the cheat, colours that play a gentle game of hide-and-seek, make a festival of moonlight,-that man, it is better he dies. I am lucky I died. To be alive is an ugly involvement. Dead I can see the fun of all these mean men what more do I need? What more fame do I crave?

 

My poetry the winds have kissed, the flowers have drunk, the birds have sung, the hills and forests echo, the rivers and the sea gasther, the sunrises and sunsets gesticulate. It is in the sounds of the pulsating universe, in the peoples of all the nations; so goodbye to the pen.

 

Things invisible to the living become visible to the dead; sounds become visible, centuries become visible, audible songs become visible and visible colours become audible—ears do the work of eyes, eyes the work of ears, hands take over the function of legs and the legs those of hands; like this it the functions of limbs and senses are dislocated the essence of death can be realised in life and the essence of life can be realised in death. This exactly is the enviable state that I am enjoying now.

 

Jean Cocteau desired to attain this by smoking opium, he says." After five pipes an idea would become distorted diffused slowly in the water of the body with all the noble whims of Chinese ink, foreshortened like a black diver…Opium enables me to hive form to the unformed……… concepts acquire volume… Opium may make us slightly visible to the invisible, may make sceptres of us to frighten sceptres in their own haunts. After smoking the body becomes thinks… the body becomes soft, flaky the body flies… the smoker has a bird’s eye view of himself".

 

April arrived; forest flame blossomed in the garden. I was reading Sri Sri: s letter, which had just then arrived. Coffee was brought and served to Rimbaud and me. Rimbaud was sitting with me in the garden reading a book, sipping coffee I asked the bearer "is it made with powdered milk?" He replied smiling" Yes sir even buffalo’s do not wakeup before ten O’clock in Hydrerabad."

 

Rimbaud laughed, and then turned and asked me;" what did sri sri write?"

 

I read out one line-"sense, in your poetry a search for alchemy…"

 

"Does Sri Sri know alchemy"querried Rimbaud."I don’t know".

 

You might be interested to know that I wandered across many countries, like Belgium, Scandinavia, Italy, Cyprus and Abyssinia in search of Alchemy. That was s a long time ago though"." Really? P{perhaps that is the reason why there are many words, symbols and expressions in your poetry which sound mystic and are incomprehensible, something like Vemanna.""Which poem are you referring to? It is Enfance of mine?" Rimbaud asked amused." Yes and also Sonnet des voyells"

 

"In sonnet des Voyells certain concepts are akin to your Tantras. There every sound has a colour and every colour has a sound". Said Rimbaud gravely still drinking, coffee.

 

I was stupefied. A minute of silence passed before I asked,"would’nt you like to meet Vemanna?"

 

" I would like that very much, where is his ashram?"

 

"Where shall I say it is? He has a very peculiar mind. trees and forest, all the villages are his ashrams."

 

"Then how do we go?" "I do not know, let’s just go, let us launch on this adventure if you are ready."

 

We started after coffee and entered the limitless universe, and began walking through villages, forests, fields, across rivers. Passing through cities we finally came to a small village, from a distance a man could be seen in a street, beneath a tree with one leg stretched out, with the other leg drawn inwards and over it he had placed his chin with his eyes cast on the earth. I pointed vemanna to Rimbaud, we went nearer. He had nothing on his body except a loincloth. He did not sstir, kept sitting in the same position. Would not move, did not stir kept sitting in the same position. Would not move, did not look at us. On his lips a smile appeared for a moment. He was writing something on the ground with a piece of twig.

 

Rimbaud asked; "Did you achieve alchemy?"‘ Did not answer. He threw away the twig and removed his hands from what he was writing. We read what he had scribbled on the earth;’HIRANYA VARNAAM HARNEEM SUVARNA RAJATHA SRAJAAM’ surprised Rimbaud asked." How did he come to know what we had in our minds?" "Thought exists in past, present and future. To think that you have conceived the thought just now is wrong. Thought is formless. The formless becomes visible to some." Without thinking I went on uttering as though someone had possessed me, my mind, my body had been talking through me.

 

We returned,’ it is not gold that I want I want the power which is more valuable than gold. The power by which I can hear the language of flowers, the melody of stars. I must be able to speak to the evening skies. I must perceive the boiling depths of the ocean under the blue sky. I Must see the spirit of man piercing through centuries, through the tree angles of time, see the sounds and hear the colours, and hold eternity which supersedes Time and space between my brow, so I must become a Seer’ I said.

 

"Yes exactly I am also in quest after the same thing."

 

"Then let us go".

 

"Where can we find him? Can we find him at all?"

 

The sun rose, weaving nets of time and space and throwing them upon the peoples of the world, Then again the garden. Frorest flame coffee Rimbaud-Today Seshen is introspective, plunged deep into himself, only his looks are sauntering lazily over the flowers of the forest-flame;" Come come what is this silence?" While the people submerged in pleasure stagnate, where they are, this person jumps into the flames of torture comes out like molten god." Achieving gold does not please me. I want to be gold myself."(Rimbaud possessed me.)

 

A flower dropped from the forest-flame. Bhoja alighted from it and came towards us. We rose up and received him and showed him to his seat. He said" While I over heard your conversation and was tempted to come, Listen, Valmiki first committed many sins, experienced many sufferings, lived the life of a wild hunter and then realised the unknwon, reached by experience the point untraceable. Rimbaud became more immersed in thoughts and said"beaudelaire is the first seer, king of kings, the real god among men". I said," look here Rimbaud it is sunrise, that itself is a sunset for another shore. These shores, these sunsets for another shore. These shores, and sunsets and sunrises they are the magic our senses: for that man, who escapes from the net of this magic Valmiki is Beaudelaire, Beaudelaire is valmiki; seer is one who is above time".

 

I rose up and began walking forward leaning on the shoulder of Rimbaud, I felt a heaviness over-powering me, my"kurta" was drenched with perspiration, the shawl was slipping off my shoulders. I was advancing towards the forest-flame not knowing what was happening. Rimbaud stood aghast where he was. Behind me were coming in crowds Bhavabhuthi, Cocteau, Leonardo, Michaelangelo, Beaudelaire, Mallarme, Kalidasa, Eliot, Pound George, Santayana, Bhasa, Bhalib, Zakkana, Sauda, Mir, Srinatha, Lorca, Iqbal, Rodin, Rilke, Virgil, Picasso, Socretes, Kawabata, Cavfy, Sefaris,and multitudes of faces in waves and generations of rays and crowds of light. I was proceeding towards the forest-flame on and on, the forest-flame did not obstruct me: I no longer exist. I went into it: it took me onto itself. I no longer exist, forest flame exists and the generations of faces, crowds coming behind me gradually each merging into a flower slowly finally the forest-flame flowered in its fullness of red blossoms. As usual April_Millons of flowers opened their lips, raised their throats and began singing in one voice.:

2017 marks the 39th annual Carnaval San Francisco parade and festival. The Mission District transforms into an enormous celebration pulsating with dancing, drumming, live music, brilliant costumes and delicious food. The annual event attracts more than 400,000 people who come to enjoy the revelry and soak up the pageant of color and culture.

One of the most beautiful jellyfish of the Mediterranean Sea. The umbrella can measure 30 cm in diameter, it is very rigid and roundish in its centre, where it has a reddish or yellow color. The moon jellyfish, Aurelia Aurita (Linnaeus, 1758), aka saucer jelly, moon jelly and common sea jelly, range between 5-40 external cm in diameter. They can be recognized by their delicate and exquisite coloration, often in patterns of spots and streaks. Their behavior depends on a number of external conditions, in particular, food supply. Aurelia swim by pulsations of the bell-shaped upper part of the animal. Swimming mostly functions to keep the animal near the surface of the water rather than to make progress through the water. They swim horizontally, keeping the bell near the surface at all times. This allows the tentacles to be spread over the largest possible area, in order to better catch food. The coronal muscle allows the animal to pulsate in order to move. Impulses to contract are sent by way of the subumbrellar nerve net and are nervous in origin. The moon jelly has rhopalial centers, which allow it to control the pulsations. As the oxygen rate in the water goes down, so too does the respiratory rate of the jellyfish.

Description: Powwows are large social gatherings of Native Americans who follow traditional dances started centuries ago by their ancestors, and which continually evolve to include contemporary aspects. These events of drum music, dancing, singing, artistry and food, are attended by Natives and non-Natives, all of whom join in the dancing and take advantage of the opportunity to see old friends and teach the traditional ways to a younger generation. During the National Powwow, the audience see dancers in full regalia compete in several dance categories, including Men and Women's Golden Age (ages 50 and older); Men's Fancy Dance, Grass and Traditional (Northern and Southern); Women's Jingle Dress, Fancy Shawl, and Traditional (Northern and Southern); Teens (13-17); Juniors (6-12) and Tiny Tots (ages 5 and younger). The drum groups are the heart of all powwows and provide the pulsating and thunderous beats that accompany a dancer's every movement. The powwow is led by three "host drums" that showcase three distinct styles of singing (Northern, Southern and contemporary) and represent the best examples of each style. The drum contest highlights groups of 10 to 12 members each, and they sing traditional family songs that are passed down orally from one generation to the next. The National Museum of the American Indian sponsored the National Powwow in 2002, 2005, and 2007 as a way of presenting to the public the diversity and social traditions of contemporary Native cultures.

What do you do after striking gold with your first solo album, wrapping your third season starring in a hit series and earning raves for your movie debut? If you're Selena Gomez, you dance. At least, you get the world on its feet with "A Year Without Rain." A follow-up to "Kiss & Tell," Selena’s gold-certified Hollywood Records debut CD, "A Year Without Rain" shows Selena and her band, The Scene, in a whole new light, this one pulsating, multicolored and ready for the mirrored ball.

 

"I really wanted something that felt good to perform, but had a techno/dance vibe," Selena says. "I wanted something that had meaning and melody, and more empowering lyrics." That’s exactly what she delivers in "A Year Without Rain." Working with top producer/songwriters like Tim James & Antonina Armato, Kevin Rudolf, Toby Gad and Jonas Jeberg, Selena kept to a more quickened tempo, exploring themes of love, freedom and the joy of living for the moment.

 

Selena credits the album’s neo-techno leanings to her 2010 platinum-certified single, ‘Naturally," which pointed the way for her. That track "really helped me figure out where I want to be," she says. "There’s a feeling when I perform that song that I love, so when I was going back in the studio, I had a better understanding of where I wanted to be musically."

 

She gets right to it with the opening track, "Round & Round," an upbeat synth-driven song about reaching the limits of indecision in love. The plaintive "A Year Without Rain" may be more subdued, but its beauty impressed Selena enough to make it the title track. "When I got the song, I went through the roof," she recalls. "Everybody has that one person they can’t live without. It was exactly what I wanted to say." That goes double for the Spanish version of the song, Selena’s first recording in that language.

 

Having turned 18 this year, Selena has matured since making her professional debut at age 7, but girls still wanna have fun, which is what songs like "Spotlight" "Off the Chain" and "Summer’s Not Hot" are all about. "Rock God" features none other than Katy Perry on backing vocals, while "Intuition" boasts a duet between Selena and rapper Eric Bellinger in a tricked-out double-time salute to a positive attitude.

 

Selena slows things down on "Ghost of You," a ravishing ballad about a breakup so rough, no amount of "living crazy loud" can crush the memory. "It’s very beautiful, very raw," Selena says of the song. "Shelly Peiken co-wrote it. She knows me, knows about everything I go through, and knows how to express it in a beautiful way."

 

On the flip side, Selena comes back strong with "Sick of You," a Matt Squire-written and produced track about losing a loser ("You know fairy tales don’t come true/ Not when it comes to you"). The album ends with "Live Like There’s No Tomorrow," an epic power ballad expressing the creed by which Selena has built her life and career.

 

A Dallas native, Selena Gomez started acting at age seven when she landed a role in the popular television series "Barney & Friends," on which was a regular for two seasons. She landed her first film role in the 2003 sci-fi action adventure film "Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over." She made her mark as an actress playing girl wizard Alex Russo in the hit Disney Channel series "Wizards of Waverly Place," which premiered in 2007 and has now completed three seasons. Selena and her cast mates won a 2009 Emmy Award for Outstanding Children’s Program.

 

Selena then made an indelible impression with her starring role in 2010 comedy "Ramona and Beezus." Says Selena, "I wanted something completely different from my show. All these incredible actors, being able to learn from them and get my feet wet in the film world. It was the perfect way to get into it." Next up, a starring role in "Monte Carlo," in which she plays a teen on vacation in the romantic European principality. And of course, Selena is gearing up for the fourth season of "Wizards of Waverly Place."

 

Selena has branched out into fashion with the premiere of her new clothing line, Dream Out Loud, sold exclusively at K-Mart. But her instinct for charity remains strong. She is a proud UNICEF ambassador, and will appear for a third year at UNICEF's Trick or Treat bash, this time to kick off UNICEF's 60th anniversary. And with the new album comes a new tour with her band.

 

Having her own band has been a comfort for Selena as she hits the road with "A Year Without Rain." Scene members; Ethan Roberts (Guitar), Joey Clement (Bass), Greg Garman (Drums) and Dane Forrest (Keyboard) back her on tour and help shape her emerging sound. "On my TV show we have an ensemble cast that’s like a family," she says. "If anyone’s missing, you feel it. I wanted that family feel in my music, and we definitely have that with the Scene."

 

That family feeling had grown to include fans around the world, each of them all in when it comes to following Selena Gomez on her amazing artistic journey. Where’s she headed? She’ll let you know when she gets there. "I’m still figuring out who I am," she says. "I love expressing that through music, and through film. Working with top producer/songwriters like Tim James & Antonina Armato, Kevin Rudolf, Toby Gad and Jonas Jeberg, Selena kept to a more quickened tempo, exploring themes of love, freedom and the joy of living for the moment.

 

Selena credits the album’s neo-techno leanings to her 2010 platinum-certified single, ‘Naturally," which pointed the way for her. What do you do after striking gold with your first solo album, wrapping your third season starring in a hit series and earning raves for your movie debut? If you're Selena Gomez, you dance. At least, you get the world on its feet with "A Year Without Rain." A follow-up to "Kiss & Tell," Selena’s gold-certified Hollywood Records debut CD, "A Year Without Rain" shows Selena and her band, The Scene, in a whole new light, this one pulsating, multicolored and ready for the mirrored ball.

 

"I really wanted something that felt good to perform, but had a techno/dance vibe," Selena says. "I wanted something that had meaning and melody, and more empowering lyrics." That’s exactly what she delivers in "A Year Without Rain." Working with top producer/songwriters like Tim James & Antonina Armato, Kevin Rudolf, Toby Gad and Jonas Jeberg, Selena kept to a more quickened tempo, exploring themes of love, freedom and the joy of living for the moment.

 

Selena credits the album’s neo-techno leanings to her 2010 platinum-certified single, ‘Naturally," which pointed the way for her. That track "really helped me figure out where I want to be," she says. "There’s a feeling when I perform that song that I love, so when I was going back in the studio, I had a better understanding of where I wanted to be musically."

 

She gets right to it with the opening track, "Round & Round," an upbeat synth-driven song about reaching the limits of indecision in love. The plaintive "A Year Without Rain" may be more subdued, but its beauty impressed Selena enough to make it the title track. "When I got the song, I went through the roof," she recalls. "Everybody has that one person they can’t live without. It was exactly what I wanted to say." That goes double for the Spanish version of the song, Selena’s first recording in that language.

 

Having turned 18 this year, Selena has matured since making her professional debut at age 7, but girls still wanna have fun, which is what songs like "Spotlight" "Off the Chain" and "Summer’s Not Hot" are all about. "Rock God" features none other than Katy Perry on backing vocals, while "Intuition" boasts a duet between Selena and rapper Eric Bellinger in a tricked-out double-time salute to a positive attitude.

 

Selena slows things down on "Ghost of You," a ravishing ballad about a breakup so rough, no amount of "living crazy loud" can crush the memory. "It’s very beautiful, very raw," Selena says of the song. "Shelly Peiken co-wrote it. She knows me, knows about everything I go through, and knows how to express it in a beautiful way."

 

On the flip side, Selena comes back strong with "Sick of You," a Matt Squire-written and produced track about losing a loser ("You know fairy tales don’t come true/ Not when it comes to you"). The album ends with "Live Like There’s No Tomorrow," an epic power ballad expressing the creed by which Selena has built her life and career.

 

A Dallas native, Selena Gomez started acting at age seven when she landed a role in the popular television series "Barney & Friends," on which was a regular for two seasons. She landed her first film role in the 2003 sci-fi action adventure film "Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over." She made her mark as an actress playing girl wizard Alex Russo in the hit Disney Channel series "Wizards of Waverly Place," which premiered in 2007 and has now completed three seasons. Selena and her cast mates won a 2009 Emmy Award for Outstanding Children’s Program.

 

Selena then made an indelible impression with her starring role in 2010 comedy "Ramona and Beezus." Says Selena, "I wanted something completely different from my show. All these incredible actors, being able to learn from them and get my feet wet in the film world. It was the perfect way to get into it." She is a proud UNICEF ambassador, and will appear for a third year at UNICEF's Trick or Treat bash, this time to kick off UNICEF's 60th anniversary. And with the new album comes a new tour with her band.

Summer Saturdays usually produced a high yield of visiting independents at the Canons Marsh Coach Park, down among the old goods depots and tobacco bonds of Bristol's abandoned docks. Operators from South Wales were always well represented. I think this splendid vehicle took me by surprise as I was retracing my steps to the city's pulsating nerve-centre, probably the prelude to a period of indecision as I wondered what to do with the remainder of the afternoon. This is what tended to happen when I had a Saturday rest day. I've always loathed weekends and I preferred to work them and get days off in the week. This seems to be a minority position; I've known people change jobs to be assured of their weekends off. So it was probably a toss-up between the Broadmead shops and the Queens Road-College Green "cultural" axis where lay the Museum and Art Gallery, George's Bookshop and the Central Library. My cinema-going days were long over.

As far as my personal obsessions in the matter are concerned the coach, a Leyland Leopard PSU3/3RT, carries a not quite optimal version of the Harrington Grenadier body. It lacks the up-and-down moulding above the headlights but in all other respects is Fray-compliant. It is a 36-footer, has roof corner lights and a destination screen in the "dome". It belonged to O'Sullivan Tours Ltd of Cardiff. The two previous owners had been CK Coaches Ltd, also of Cardiff, and Hazeldine Hire Services Ltd of Bilston, Staffs. I would conjecture from the destination layout that the original owner was Grey-Green and the George Ewer Group.

It looks as though the World Wine Fair was on. For some years this was an important event in the Bristol calendar. No doubt it generated a certain amount of the coach traffic, although the Welsh are not noted oenophiles. The area is much changed. Canons Marsh suffered "regeneration" in the 90s, the City Centre double roundabout was remodelled according to the very latest ideas in the design of urban spaces, the Bristol & West Building Society's head office was given a makeover and became an hotel, neighbouring Deanery Road was pedestrianised and this thoroughfare, Anchor Road, became the main "corridor" for traffic entering the city from the Clevedon, Portishead and Weston-super-Mare directions. The excitement-free buildings on either side ...once associated with the dock trades... had to go. This must now be the approximate site of the modish, unvisited @Bristol "experience".

The women's dance uses the same basic steps, although the posture is quite different. The restrictive kimono allows only the smallest of steps forward but a crisp kick behind, and the hand gestures are more restrained and graceful, reaching up towards the sky. Women usually dance in tight formation, poised on the ends of their geta sandals.

The valley of the Geysernaya river is located in 180 km to the north-east from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky among the volcanoes stretched along the east coastline of the peninsula near the so called East volcanic belt.

 

The Valley of geysers has all forms of hydrothermal activity including permanently active and pulsating boiling springs, hot lakes, geysers, mud pools, mud volcanoes, vapour streams, warmed grounds closely located at the small area.

Pulsating auroras, drifting patches that brighten and dim on the order of seconds to minutes, happen in the morning hours. First night back in Fairbanks after the Fort Yukon campaign. Should have left the lights on, this was a better shot with the eve and trees illuminated. Filmed at ISO3200: D7000 is impressive.
