This is a photograph from the East of Ireland Marathon Series Marathon held at Killeigh, Tullamore, Co. Offaly, Ireland at 09:00 on Saturday 9th November 2013. This is the second East of Ireland Marathon Series race outside of Dublin following on from the EOI Marathon in Dondea/Stapelstown in September 2013. This is race number 7 in the East of Ireland Marathon Series 2013. The race follows a 4.5 mile loop starting and finishing in Killeigh Village. Runners must complete this loop six times for the marathon distance.

The East Of Ireland Marathon Series aims to make marathons affordable and convienient for the runners of Ireland. The serires organisers aim to promote marathon running and to make the process as stress free and enjoyable as possible. All courses are measured to full AAI standards and have a minimum of 10 Entrants. The marathons are self sufficent to a degree although there are limited supplies of water available on the day of the race. There will be no extra frills like chip timing and finish gantrys. However all finishing times are accurately and officially recorded. This is to keep the price down and keep the races as affordable as possible. The East of Ireland Marathon series is all inclusive and welcomes runners who are new to marathon running as well as experienced veterans.

This photograph is part of a Flickr set of photographs we took at this event. The Flickr set is available here [http://www.flickr.com/photos/peterm7/sets/72157637454911025/]. This set includes photographs from the start, in-race, and finish of the race.

Overall Race Summary

Participants: The East of Ireland marathon series stricly limits the number of participants. There were about 50 participants in the race today.

Weather: The overnight frost meant that it was a calm but very chilly start to the race. There was some beautiful periods of November sunshine with only a headwind for runnners as they made their way back into Killeigh at the end of the loop.

Course: The race is ran on a challenging route around Killeigh. The route must be repeated 6 times for the marathon distance. The race starts at the Killeigh National School (goo.gl/maps/IKb2g) and proceeds northwards towards the R420 road. The route takes a right turn at this point (goo.gl/maps/2h12A) and follows the local road. The route merges with the road southwards back into Killeigh at this point (goo.gl/maps/d0Q8x). Runners take to the footpath then when this road merges with the busy Tullamore Portloaise Road (goo.gl/maps/beu5s). The route takes another right at Doyle's Pub on the Corner and the single loop is complete. There are several stiff short climbs in the route which can disrupt racing pace as the loops continue.

How can I get full resolution copies of these photographs?

All of the photographs posted here on this Flickr set are available free, at no cost, at full image resolution. We take these photographs as a hobby and as a contribution to the running community in Ireland. Our only "cost" is our request that if you are using these images without the watermark: (1) on social media sites such as Facebook, Tumblr, Pinterest, Twitter,LinkedIn, Google+, etc or (2) other websites, blogs, web multimedia, commercial/promotional material that you must provide a link back to our Flickr page to attribute us.

This also extends the use of these images for Facebook profile pictures. In these cases please make a separate wall or blog post with a link to our Flickr page. If you do not know how this should be done for Facebook or other social media please email us and we will be happy to help suggest how to link to us.

Please email petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com with the links to the photographs you would like to obtain a full resolution copy of. We also ask race organisers, media, etc to ask for permission before use of our images for flyers, posters, etc. We reserve the right to refuse a request.

If you would like to contribute something for your photograph(s)?

Many people offer payment for our photographs. As stated above we do not charge for these photographs. We take these photographs as our contribution to the running community in Ireland. If you feel that the photograph(s) you request are good enough that you would consider paying for their purchase from other photographic providers we would suggest that you can provide a donation to any of the great charities in Ireland who do work for Cancer Care or Cancer Research in Ireland.

I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:

►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera

►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set

►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone

►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!

You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. You might find some links for further information above.

Don't like your photograph here?

That's OK! We understand!

If, for any reason, you are not happy or comfortable with your picture appearing here in this photoset on Flickr then please email us at petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com and we will remove it as soon as possible. We give careful consideration to each photograph before uploading.

The gag rule would prevent healthcare providers who receive federal funding under the family planning program from referring patients for abortion care. The object is to try and defund abortion providers like Planned Parenthood. Yet, abortion counseling etc., is only 3% of what Planned Parenthood actually does. Fairchild C-123 “Provider”

The C-123, originally designed and manufactured by Chase Aircraft, actually started out as an engineless glider, but due to the fact the US Air Force did not have a aircraft suitable for towing something as large as the “Provider”, it then had two R-2800 radial engines, producing 2500 hp each, added to take advantage of its large cargo carrying capabilities. Chase built the 7 initial aircraft, but the USAF chose Fairchild to build the 302 production C-123B variants. Later, 183 of the B models were converted to C-123Ks, which had two General Electric J85-GE-17 jet engines added for helping a fully loaded “Provider”, weighing 36 tons, get airborne from short airstrips. The C-123K could haul 60 fully equipped combat troops or a fully loaded two and a half ton truck into a combat situation. During the Vietnam Conflict, the C-123 came into its own, operating in and out of short, unprepared landing strips, hauling not only troops, trucks, jeeps, artillery and ammunition, but also refugees, live stock and anything else that needed to be moved by air to the remote outposts and villages in that country. The use of the C-123 in Southeast Asia was not without its cost, as 54 were lost during that long war.

Pictured above is the C-123K “Provider”, nicknamed “Thunder Pig”, flying to the Mt. Comfort Airport. This particular aircraft, one of four still flyable in this country, was delivered to the USAF in May of 1956, and served at numerous stateside airbases until being retired in 1981. In 1994 Air Heritage of Beaver Falls, PA obtained the C-123K from the US government and has been taking this rare transport to air shows and aviation events ever since. The C-123 is one you will definitely want to tour at the show this year, as it has plenty of room to stand up straight and walk around in.

Learn more about “Thunder Pig”, on the web at Air Heritage.

Arriving the night before the Kent State Aviation Heritage Fair.

From WIkipedia:

The C-123 Provider was an American military transport aircraft designed by Chase Aircraft and subsequently built by Fairchild Aircraft for the United States Air Force. In addition to its USAF service, which included later service with the Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard, it also went on to serve most notably with the United States Coast Guard and various air forces in South East Asia.

This is a photograph from the 2nd running of the Donadea Running Club 5KM race in Donadea Forest, Donadea, Staplestown, Naas, Co. Kildare, Ireland on Friday 26th of July 2013 at 19:30. This race is part of the North Kildare Summer Running League Series of races. There was great athlete and participant support from the neighbouring clubs of Celbridge, Kilcock, Leixlip, Naas, Newbridge, and beyond. The race route is contained completely in the forest on the trail paths. The 5KM route is ran in a clockwise direction from the coffee shop at the center of the forest. The combination of a warm pleasant July evening and the wonderful surroundings make this a very unique race on the running calendar in this part of Leinster.

Donadea Forest Park is located in north west Co. Kildare close to the border with County Meath. It is about 50 kilometers from Dublin. The forest is now a very mature forest with a vast array of habitats and a lake. It is over 640 acres in size. The Park is managed by Coillte.

Well done to all of the Donadea Running Club and the local community who yet again have organised an excellent event.

Overall Race Summary

Participants: Approximately 250 people took part in today's races with runners, joggers, walkers, and families involved.

Weather: This was a warm pleasant summer's evening in the forest. The 19:30 start avoided a very heavy and prolonged shower of rain which made the course a little wet in places.

Course: This is a very well known loop of the Donadea forest. It starts at the coffee shop area near and lake and proceeds on what is locally known as the 'outer' loop of the forest in a clockwise direction. The direction is opposite to that used in the Donadea 10KM and Donadea 50KM races.

Location Map: Start/finish and registration takes place in the center of the forest beside the Castle and Coffee Shop. Google Maps Aerial Imagery here (goo.gl/maps/crBAj)

Refreshments: A great spread of refreshments were provided afterwards in the open area beside the Coffee Shop.

'Classic Remise' is the name for a business model (service centers for motorcycles and automobiles specializing in the field of classic, vintage and collector vehicles). There are two Classic Remises in Berlin and Düsseldorf. Both service centers are located in listed buildings with an industrial traffic background.

In the Classic Remise Düsseldorf there are 80 glass storage boxes and 35 specialised service providers - among them dealers, restorers, workshops, shops for clothing and automobilia as well as a restaurant and a beer garden (open in summer). The range is rounded off by service providers such as vehicle care providers, saddlers, expert offices and motorcycle specialists.

The site has a large event hall and smaller event areas, which are booked by companies for presentations, conferences and sales meetings. At the location, rallies take place, tours start or major old-timer-related events.

The Classic Remise Düsseldorf is located in a former railroad roundhouse built between 1929 and 1931. The building has a semicircle as its base. The diameter of the locomotive shed is almost 150 m, making it one of the largest preserved locomotive sheds of its kind in Europe. A two-storey restaurant was built on the site of the former hub, the space between the restaurant and the old building was covered with a modern transparent roofing foil construction.

Designed by Chase Aircraft and built by Fairchild Aircraft, the C-123 is a cargo plane used by both the US Air Force and Coast Guard. Strangely, it was originally designed as an assault glider and was designated the XCG-20. Two powered variants were also designed, one with P&W R-2800-99W radial engines with 2300 hp, and the other with GE J47-GE-11 turbojets producing 5200 lb of thrust.

Designed for ruggedness and reliability, the C-123 was to provide troop transport on small, unimproved airstrips. Therefore, the turbojets were dropped for fear they would ingest foreign objects.

The C-123 was used in Vietnam, including in the Operation Ranch Hand defoliation campaign. It served as a VIP aircraft as well as a Special Ops aircraft providing lighting for other aircraft and as an armed night-time patrol aircraft.
