Water Protectors engineered a makeshift wooden pedestrian bridge over the Cantapeta Creek on November 2, 2016. They were trying to access ancestral burial grounds they believe are being damaged by the Dakota Access Pipeline construction. Heavily armed law enforcement officials were deployed. As they pulled the bridge apart with boats, the Water Protectors swam and used their own boats to cross the water. Standing unarmed in the cold water, the protectors were forcibly repelled by the enforcers with tear gas, pepper spray and rubber bullets. Standoffs between the Water Protectors and law enforcement over the Dakota Access Pipeline continue in the area that has become ground zero for opposition to a $3.7 billion project that would move domestic crude oil across four states and destroy tribal lands. ..today was the one of my first days that i have had free in quite a long time.
so- i decided to spend it with my little brother.
i picked him up, took him to 7eleven, and then bought him some new wheels for his skates so we could spend the afternoon skating together.
it was really fun, i enjoyed talking with him and hearing about his thoughts, opinions and inputs.
i genuinely love being in his company and i feel truly blessed to have the only sibling in my life be him.
i have always been his big sister, his protector and his mentor- but he is growing up,
and is much taller and stronger than me now.
his birthday is this sunday the 14th, and he will be 16 years old.
i can’t believe how much he has grown into a gentleman.
i haven’t been the best, lately. i will admit this. i have been absent when he needs me or too unstable to hold him up.
and i have come to the realization that the tables are slightly turning.

As the annual Conservative Party Conference comes to a close, Greater Manchester Police would like to thank attendees, the people of Greater Manchester, and visitors, for another successful and peaceful policing operation.
This multi-agency security operation, codenamed Operation Protector, has been months in the planning and saw thousands of extra people enter the city to attend the event, all of which passed without incident.
Sunday 1 October was the main day for protests, with thousands of protestors marching through the city, and attending a rally. Despite the typical Mancunian weather, spirits were high, and the events went ahead without incident, coming to a peaceful conclusion.
Whilst unrelated to the event, a number of proactive arrests were made in the city centre for a range of offences including driving whilst under the influence of drugs, shop lifting, and a man who was wanted for assault, demonstrating it was business as usual for many officers on the ground.
Assistant Chief Constable Chris Sykes, Gold Commander for the event, said: “Over the past four days, we’ve seen more than ten thousand delegates and visitors come to our city, supporting local businesses and the local economy; it is testament to Manchester being an iconic city for major events.
“As expected, and as in previous years, there were a number of protests throughout the period – notably on Sunday 1 October, which saw around 3,000 people march through the city.
“Security operations of this scale are always complex and require a high degree of multiagency work. With our partners, we have worked tirelessly to protect delegates, enable protests, and keep our city safe, and I am proud to hear such positive feedback about our staff who have performed their duties to the highest of standards.
“And finally, I would like to thank those who live, work or were visiting Manchester during this busy period for their patience whilst our operation was in place.”

I love the way this one looks with such contrast. I also like the angle of this shot better than the other that I uploaded, as it makes the crucifix much more prominent in the shot.
The weather vane also acts as a lightning rod, with grounds running down the sides of the barns. Fire was always a worry for the early 20th century farmer with their big wood structures filled with combustibles.
I had the opportunity to walk out on the runway at the Hollister airport. I happened to be out there on the day when the CDF bombers were making rounds somewhere nearby. I got to see the whole process... Taking off, landing, filling up, and taking off again. The pilots and other technicians were really cool about me taking their pictures. I'll have to post some other shots of them waving to me out the window.
