Inspired by the UNESCO Convention for the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions, of which Canada is a founding member, Culture Days is a Canada-wide volunteer-focused and citizens enabled cultural program aimed at raising the awareness, accessibility, participation and engagement of all Canadians in the arts and cultural life of their communities.
Launched in 2010, this year’s Culture Days fall on the weekend from Sep 28-30, 2012. In the Greater Vancouver area alone, there are no less than fifty culturally focused programs including dance performances, concerts, art exhibits, carving, historical walking tour, books fair, poetry-reading etc.
Richmond BC has one of the largest and most vibrant Chinese communities in the country. To help celebrate Culture Days, the Association of Chinese Cultural Promotion Canada 加拿大中国文化促进会 organized the Richmond Lantern Festival 列治文中秋灯节 to coincide with the Mid-Autumn Festival (often lovingly-referred to as the Mooncake Festival) that is a very popular celebration occasion in China and many parts of Asia.
In 2009, the Vancouver Chinese Cultural Festival (VCCF) 中国文化节 has its inaugural Chinese cultural fair at the BC Place Plaza of Nations in downtown Vancouver and the festivities get even bigger this year with the Richmond Antiques RoadShow & Art Collection Fair also joining.
Much of the 4th annual VCCF and Cultural Days weekend in Richmond BC took place at Minoru Park, a nice neighborhood park within a short walking distance from the Brighouse Skytrain station and Richmond Centre Mall. The three-day festival offered a full program of activities. Much of that centered on a performance stage for music and dance by local and invited guests from China. There was even a mini-fashion show and ticketed events offsite as well. Under a large white tent, a book and culture fair and a Chinese artwork collection exhibit attracted many curious minds interested the 5,000 years of Chinese history and cultural treasures.
A group of longtime actors, singers and performers from the Hong Kong movie and TV industry (many of whom now call Vancouver or Richmond home) made an appearance to add an extra bit of glamour and excitement. A bonfire party wrapped up a weekend of Chinese cultural celebration on Sunday night (Sep 30th, 2012) at 8PM.
The weekend of events has an estimated 30,000 people participating. Visitors enjoyed the opportunity to experience the Mid-Autumn Festival and have their mooncake and eat it too.

I'm using a 72" tall plastic shelving unit to make a greenhouse for my succulents. The pvc pipe frame around it is to keep the plastic sheeting away from the plants. Haven't decided how I will keep it from being blown over if winds top 20 mph. Feb. 2017.
Color protection pioneer test film. Thanks to Jimmy and Noreen from 8storeytree. www.8storeytree.com/. Last year we did in B&W PQ 8x10, now we took the exact same scene with the color film.
Pretty good emulsion spread and streaking was not that obvious. Probably because the film was developed at 28C in a hot Singapore climate.

Setting a creosoted telephone pole on fire is generally considered a bad thing. So part of our job is painting a ring of fire around any hazards like that, then going around with the water packs to squirt out the inner edge of the flame. By the time the main fire front arrives, there's a nice safe black buffer zone around it.

Pleasant Valley Fire Protection District, Placerville, California (El Dorado County). This is a scan of a photo from 1987.
Squad 8752 was a 1982 Chevrolet 4x4 with bodywork by Utah LaGrange. It had a 250 GPM pump and a small water tank (200 gal.?). Staffed 24 hours a day/seven days a week, 8752 was first-out to all incidents in the district's 110-square mile service area.
I photographed it in front of Station 2 (Oak Hill), where it was stationed (now El Dorado County FPD Station 23).
ATTENTION. ATTENTION. I AM ALIVE.
Brittany and her body guards. I took like fifty pictures of basically them all sitting like this (they were looking out the window, and it was open so they weren't going to leave) trying to get one where they were all looking alert and forward. Dang Sabrina with her ears slightly cocked.
Added this for Nikki so she could favorite it.

Sabastian is having UTI problems again. Well it isn't a UTI it is probably a intersitial cytosis (or something like that, I feel like cytosis is definitely the wrong word). Basically it makes him feel like he has a UTI but you know, with out the ability to treat it because it is inflammation and not bacteria. So we are trying an anti-inflammatory, but it isn't really working and giving him said pill is extremely difficult. Especially because something that causes it to flare up is stress. And you know, holding him down and shoving a pill down his throat is kind of stressful because he fights with basically all he has. His favorite food is his dry cat food and cat treats. I tried crushing it into a very fine powder and putting it on his food. He smelled it and refused to eat. >_>
Ohh and for the Brittany fans, I used to think Brittany had a BIT of common sense when it came to her bossiness, but that illusion has been shattered. When I go out to my friend's house to work with "Mutts and Mustangs" together Brittany has decided that she can even boss around the horses. Bello and Reba know they can't and respect their space. Brittany on the other hand will walk right under them to get where she has decided to go, and also has developed a fondness for grain. Brittany will typically start eating it with Aztec and when Aztec starts to search for more grain Brittany has the nerve to be food aggressive over freaking grain. With a thousand pound animal. >_> SO while it was semi funny at first its dangerous so Brittany is getting a stronger recall and learning to leave it. But most importantly she'll be having her little butt leashed. Because if she gets stepped on, despite what she believes, it will kill her.
