Sea Otter (Kalan)
One of the smallest marine mammals, this sea otter inhabits Kamchatka and the Commander Islands. The kalan also belongs to those limited species that are capable of using tools. It is listed in the Russian Federation's Red Data Book. Kalans play a very important role in the marine and coastal ecosystems as they control the numbers of sea urchins. The number of kalans in Russia is about 15,000; of those, more than 5,000 inhabit the Commander Islands.
The Commander Islands Reserve hosts the biggest in Russia population of these animals, and its monitoring is therefore of special importance.

The Council of Europe has announced that the Desertas islands are to be declared a ³Protected Area², thus acknowledging the importance of the work that has been done in this Natural Reserve for over 25 years.

The Nam Et-Phou Louey National Protected Area is approximately 595,000 hectares, covering seven districts and three provinces: Houaphan, Luang Prabang and Xieng Khouang. WCS teamed up with the local office to create ecotourism activities that help support conservation and wildlife protection. Variconi is a Special Protected Area (according with EU Birds Directive) and an international Ramsar Area, since its role for bird migration. The program includes:
- bird watching;
- bird ringing;
- workshop of photography.

A photographic workshop about telling a story by means of photography was organised. Participants were been invited to describe why they think Variconi SPA is important for migrant birds, by using 5 photographs they will take on the field on 11 May 2013. Participants were been guided by members of the regional section of AFNI (Associazione Fotografi Naturalisti Italiani). The work will be published on the web site of the project “Biodiversita2020” (www.biodiversita2020.com. The event is part of the program held by Ente Riserva Foce Volturno, Istituto di Gestione della Fauna, Birding Campania (EBN network)

Elbsandsteingebirge - die Region am Oberlauf der Elbe besteht zum großen Teil aus Sandstein. Das Elbsandsteingebirge ist ein Mittelgebirge. Der tschechische Teil des Elbsandsteingebirges liegt in Norböhmen an der Grenze zu Sachsen.
The Elbe Sandstone Mountains, known also as Elbe sandstone highlands. The images show the North Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic. The name Elbe Sandstone Mountains derives from the sandstone which was carved by erosion. The river Elbe breaks through the mountain range in a steep and narrow valley.
