The gristlier side of NYC!
I'm headed through Queens into Brooklyn, Williamsburg, Brooklyn to be exact. Williamsburg is where I was born, where we lived in a tenement of railroad rooms, where I played on the concrete pavement of the local school yard, and where we left for a better life when I was five years old.
I haven't been back to Williamsburg in 58 years.......

Widgeon Valley National Wildlife Area is a National Wildlife Area located near the south end of Pitt Lake in British Columbia, Canada. The property was purchased by the Nature Trust of British Columbia in 1973 and declared a National Wildlife Area by the Canadian Wildlife Service in October of that year. The Widgeon Valley National Wildlife Area is a biologically diverse marsh wetland. It is the traditional territory of various First Nations groups. The Widgeon Valley Wildlife Area is a protected wildlife area that is home to a number of sensitive waterfowl and fish species. The public uses the channels through the Widgeon Valley National Wildlife Area for recreational canoeing, anywhere else within the protected area is strictly off-limits to the public. There are future plans to develop interpretive trails through the park and open it to the public.

At a first glance all looks normal in this shot. Look closer at the right hand side and you will see that the glacier is covered by a series of huge tarpaulins. The retreat of the Rhone Glacier over the last one hundred years has been startling and although it extends virtually as far as you can see in this view there is a real fear that it will disappear for good.
"Red protects itself. No color is as territorial. It stakes a claim, is on the alert against the spectrum."

Protecting innocence~ They arrive to this earth relying on our coded ability to host them as they take human form. They are born tiny and helpless and it is up to us to support, care for and nurture them till they can care for themselves. They carry in them the promise and possibility of a better tomorrow. They are our most valuable assets. [ 28 more words ]

This protected natural area houses the structures of the Old Piedras River Aqueduct, which provided drinking water to the city of San Juan for more than 80 years. Designed and built throughout the 19th and 20th centuries to provide this service to the capital's growing population.
Located on the only remaining bend of the Piedras River, the Old Aqueduct is a historical heritage site of great cultural and ecological value, being the first to use hydraulic pumps and steam to produce large quantities of drinking water in San Juan. Among its structures is the dam, completed in 1894, and the only surviving construction of its kind from the Spanish colonial period in the country.

I loved this sign. I don't understand why people refuse to wear a mask - it protects you and it protects others.

The Polder is named after the businessman who, in 1845 bought 2,000 hectares here when it was all mud flats and salt marsh, Unfortunately he died in 1859, a year before work on the area was due to start.
His sons, on inheriting their father's estate, engaged the famous civil engineer Klaas Breebart to drain the mud flats and build dykes. As a result there is now about 500 hectares of farmland, in several polders protected by dykes, and a small nature reserve on another polder that is named after Breebart. Much remains mud flats and salt marsh.
