The hoverfly seemed to have staked out this flower. When a green sweat bee came along she seemed strangely wary of the fly. They didn't want to share. They jockeyed for position. The bee snuck a couple sips of nectar before going on her way. The fly's larvae will protect the plant against aphids. The bee might not realize it, but the hoverfly's life cycle protects the food source for both insects. Best leave her alone, and leave her some nectar.

I'm headed through Queens into Brooklyn, Williamsburg, Brooklyn to be exact. Williamsburg is where I was born, where we lived in a tenement of railroad rooms, where I played on the concrete pavement of the local school yard, and where we left for a better life when I was five years old.
I haven't been back to Williamsburg in 58 years.......

Pitt Meadows, British Columbia, Canada
Widgeon Valley National Wildlife Area is a National Wildlife Area located near the south end of Pitt Lake in British Columbia, Canada. The property was purchased by the Nature Trust of British Columbia in 1973 and declared a National Wildlife Area by the Canadian Wildlife Service in October of that year. The Widgeon Valley National Wildlife Area is a biologically diverse marsh wetland. It is the traditional territory of various First Nations groups. The Widgeon Valley Wildlife Area is a protected wildlife area that is home to a number of sensitive waterfowl and fish species. The public uses the channels through the Widgeon Valley National Wildlife Area for recreational canoeing, anywhere else within the protected area is strictly off-limits to the public. There are future plans to develop interpretive trails through the park and open it to the public.
Young female koala joey (Phascolarctos cinereus) is out of her mom "Sooky's" pouch more and more. But she still stays very close to her mom. Australia Outback section of the San Diego Zoo. Conservation status: vulnerable
At a first glance all looks normal in this shot. Look closer at the right hand side and you will see that the glacier is covered by a series of huge tarpaulins. The retreat of the Rhone Glacier over the last one hundred years has been startling and although it extends virtually as far as you can see in this view there is a real fear that it will disappear for good.

I saw these two along with their mom and another sibling east of Prince George yesterday. Mom never even flinched at me getting too close, but these two came running down the hill charging at me. After I got back into my truck, they felt they had done their job, and ran back to mom.
