Nowadays it seems so many "car-guys" are obsessed with making their car as low as possible, cambering the wheels, etc. It's refreshing to see something tastefully done, in a way that actually improves handling.. as opposed to making it handle more poorly. Well done, sir.

Open Painting Competition on the theme “PROPER SANITATION AND SAFE WATER” held on Sunday the 25th May, 2008 at YVU, Thoubal
The painting competition was held by Youth Volunteers Union, Thoubal, Manipur. 45 children from government and private schools of Thoubal, Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur and Senapati districts took part in the competition. Two students from Fine Arts College, Imphal also participated.
Dr. Ak. Brogen Singh, Asst. Professor , Dept of Community Medicine, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal and Mr. P. Nilamani Singh, District Extension and Media Officer of Medical Department adjudicated the competition. Cash prizes worth Rs 3,000/-, 2,000/- and 1,000/- along with citation were given to the first 3 selected entries. 5 more consolation cash prizes of Rs 100/- were given.

The saying goes something like this, “He who dies with the most toys, WINS!”. For some it’s a Corvette, for others it’s a vintage car, a boat or even an airplane. For me it’s an electric car. No, not one of Elon Musk’s Tesla Model 3’s but a Chevy VOLT “Plug-In Hybrid”. Did I want a Tesla, you bet ya but the idea of waiting 1-1/2 years to get one doesn’t sit well with us older guys. Besides, the Chevy Volt has more than enough tech to satisfy the GEEK in me as I experience living with and driving an electric car. Stay tuned for more about the journey as I go forward….
I’ve always been enamored by new technology and dived in to experience it and, most times, well before our friends and family. I started reading about the “affordable” Tesla that Elon Musk was coming out with and wanted to dive into this relatively new way of getting around.
I considered putting in a reservation for a Tesla Model 3 in the hope that “basic” versions would be available when my turn came up. Currently, the wait is 12 to 18 months and there is some uncertainty as to IF the entry level basic $35,000 car would ever be available. My concerns were not limited to the initial cost and wait time. The nearest service center is some 60 miles away and there are no “Super Chargers” in my area. In addition, I’d have to most certainly spend a couple thousand dollars getting a proper charge port installed in my garage. And, BTW, I only have a one car garage so the Tesla could be parked outside in winter to cut down on car jockeying.
And then I came across the Chevy VOLT and it’s blend of electric propulsion and “range extender” which removes the “range anxiety” common in all electric cars.
I zeroed in on the Chevy VOLT for several other reasons as well with the most prominent of which is it’s available NOW. In addition, there is an entire network of Chevrolet dealer/service centers across the country. We’re retired and most of what we do is within a 50 mile round trip so we’ll be able to utilize electric much of the time. For longer trips, there’s the gas powered “range extender”. There’s a lot of technology built into the VOLT which I’ll totally enjoy figuring out.
The technology is changing so fast that I had concerns about buying a new car. All new cars lose about half of their value in the first 3 years. EVs are no exception. Besides new, there were two other options….
1. Lease the car. You’re still eating the first 3 years of depreciation but have the option of turning the car back in should technology advance to the point the car becomes difficult to sell. Of course, the option to buy the car remains. Fundamentally, I’m not a fan of leasing and have concerns over what constitutes “normal wear and tear”. We’ve heard stories of people getting dinged for all kinds of stuff especially if they are not buying the car or getting another lease.
2. A more reasonable option is to buy a used car that has already had some or all of the initial depreciation covered by someone else. In my case, I wanted a VOLT Generation 2 which meant 2016, 2017, or 2018. Obviously, Gen 2’s haven’t been around long enough to be coming off of 3 year leases so availability on the used market is limited. There were some Gen 2’s out there but nothing close to home.
So, what did I end up doing? I was pretty much ready to give the lease option a try when a new listing at a local Volvo dealer popped up on the internet. The listing was for a 2017 Volt “Premiere” with just under 30k miles. According to KBB it was priced about right so we headed off to take a look at it. A look over, a test drive, and we bought it. It should be noted that a comparable 2018 was about $8,000-$10,000 more.
Remaining manufacturer warrantees apply. In this case, I’ve got about 6,000 miles on the base warranty. More importantly, the battery and motor carries an 8 year / 100,000 mile warranty.
Frankly, I’m pleased about owning a Volt because I don’t have to worry about putting to many miles on it and about lease end “wear and tear” issues.
And so the experience begins!

Week 8
The series "Reflections through the Seasons"
As seen in the little garden, reflected in one of the buildings in Toronto.
I continue my series and here is the second week of Winter. Yes, that was the proper winter that week :)
No one was noticed in our little garden, just lonely wayfarers were passing by.
If you are new to my Reflections series, you are welcome to look through this set.
Now for those people who don't like the thing-thing bubble hands, I cooked this up to help anyone who needs help properly making arms. This is also for Sgtsammac21, who inspired me to make this (sorry Sam, but I was bored and meh.)
Everything is colour coded to make it easier to understand, also, the hands themselves are crap, but I focused on getting the arm itself in a proper/realistic position, also, the AK's a bit small :P .
A few guidelines:
Try to use the same number of parts in both hands, that makes them the same length.
Use circles for the shoulder and elbows, and squares for the rest of the hand.
DO NOT forget that the trigger hand is looking straight, that means it will have to bend at the joint (see note).

Oh, and remind me to tell you the story of my friend pulling the tin of madeleines out of my bag to offer one to Parker Posey last night, who was cool as shit, and not just because she told me I was going to be the next Martha Stewart. Hmph. There was a bit of wine involved, so that might be all we're going to get of that story.

In Yangon parlance, a building with no elevators (lifts) is called an apartment building and one with elevators is called a condominium.
Condos which have to invest in a local power generator to ensure 24-hour electricity for the elevators are beyond the reach of most Yangonites.
Found throughout the city in various forms, eight-story apartment buildings provide relatively inexpensive housing for many Yangonites. The apartments are usually eight stories high (including the ground floor) mainly because city regulations, until February 2008, required that all buildings higher than 75 feet (23 m) or eight stories install elevators. The current code calls for elevators in buildings higher than 62 feet (19 m) or six stories, likely ushering in the era of the six-story apartment building.
Although most apartment buildings were built only within the last 20 years, they look much older and rundown due to shoddy construction and lack of proper maintenance, like the one the picture shows.

Creating green area :- creating garden area is a great way to add an element of beauty to your backyard. If you donot want to work on making your entire yard a private paradise, take one corner and transform it into a beautiful garden. Look for evergreen varieties. You can also find containers and plants to fit any landscape style.
Seating area :- There are so many people who wants to add functions to their backyard. That is why the need to add seating area arises in the backyard. While adding seating area to your backyard you must consider the size and the right place to choose for seating. Seating can be added in numerous ways. You can add beautiful set of chairs and tables. Seating area should also include dinning so that if need arises people can have their meals too.
Overall landscaping :- It is always said that first impression is the last impression. You must have a look on overall #landscaping of your backyard and see what needs to be changed or improved. Add colors to your backyard. Work on plants. Grow the plants which ad beautiful colors to the environment and for this you can always consult your nearest nursery.
