" The approval given last week by the VoG Planning Committee to gas-drilling activity showed a disgraceful bias towards the company Coastal Oil & Gas. The officers let the company get away with minimal information and falsely ignoring the toxic waste water and radioactive sludges likely to be produced.
Both the officers and the Natural Resources Agency ignored flooding risks and environmental impacts as allegedly short-term, yet the precautionary principle and environmental impact (EIA) regulations do cover short-term harm.
The VoG officers quoted the Llandow inquiry decision. Yet no other authority takes that seriously, as the Vale Council failed to make a proper case on drilling noise disturbance and local water supplies at risk. They accepted noise levels used for regulating quarrying (nighttime quarry working excluded) to apply to all-night drilling for gas; they ignored the WHO (World Health Organisation) 30 decibel level for disturbance to sleep.
The Vale's new LDP does give the chance to write into our local plan strong requirements on shale-gas drilling. Official support for this comes in EU Commission and European parliament resolutions both saying that EIA should apply to all shale gas activities.
At the committee on 3rd October, Councillors pressed the VoG officer to assure them that extracting shale gas would require EIA, but he was not even ready to promise this.
Building a strong policy into the LDP will enable us to stand up to pro-fracking interests and the hands-off Welsh Government, who see only profits from exploitation.
Basic to this policy should be requiring EIA and normal restrictions on night-time noise for 'unconventional' gas exploration as well as its exploitation. It should also mandate the precautionary principle is to be used until all questions on pollution and gas leakage have been satisfied. "

The ‘supporting information’ does not explain this protracted process anywhere, but it involves pumping of water with chemicals to “stimulate” the release of gas. At Balcombe, Cuadrilla use the word “stimulation” to describe this gas-testing process, but Coastal Oil&Gas’s Supporting Information refers to ’stimulation’ only in:
the shale gas boom in recent years has been due to modern technology in stimulation techniques to create extensive artificial fractures around well bores.
The BBC denial refers only to this use of the term.

The drilling cuttings will be placed in a skip and disposed of at a licensed facility. Any waste water will be tankered to a licensed treatment plant.

What is the Minerals Planning Authority (MPA) for Wales criteria for determining if a Environmental Impact Assesment (EIA) is required and what have their assessments been for all fracking applications in Wales.
The MPA determines if an EIA is required. When an operator wishes to drill an exploration well, their first step is to negotiate access with landowners for the drilling pad area and the surface under which any drilling extends. Permission must also be obtained from the Coal Authority if the well encroaches on coal seams. Then the operator needs to seek planning permission from the MPA. The operator must obtain the appropriate environmental authorisation/permit from the Natural Resources Wales (NRW).
The MPA will determine if an EIA is required, such assessments are required if the scale of the operations meets certain' thresholds', or if, depending on their nature, scale and location, they may have significant environmental impacts. If an EIA is required, it must be completed by the applicant and submitted to the MPA before the MPA decides on planning permission.
There is a bill being put to EU Parliament on 8th October to get this amended so that it is mandatory for EIAs to be carried out for both the exploration and production phases of all unconventional fossil fuel projects.
I recommend you write to your local MEP’s and ask them to support amendments 31 and 79 in the Zanoni report and that they reject amendment 112 which excludes exploration phase from mandatory EIAs.
On top of this the Government is planning to amend UK planning laws so that fracking companies don’t need to notify you if they plan to frack under your property. Given that in the states people struggle to sell their houses if they have been fracked under as they can’t get insurance and thus mortgages and we live in old coal mining areas prone to subsidence this could be an issue for valley property.
The whole of the Vale needs to realise the potential scale if shale gas is to be viable here, how many wells, lorries, polluted water (10,000 to 30,000 tonnes per well), gas pipes, infrastuctures to be put into place? The whole of the Vale is pretty much available for fracking license, are the communities there aware of this? What is Alun Cairns MP (conservative) for the Vale of Glamorgan doing, and Jane Hutt Labour AM for The Vale Of Glamorgan doing to help these communities?
I felt that site visit was pointless, the planning officers and councilors had already made their minds up.

Monday 10 April 2017: Pokhara - Beni - Darbang - Sibang - Muna
Another early morning, but after a proper night’s sleep and time for another set of sunrise photos before breakfast at 6am and a final photo up on the ridge wall: stunning snow capped mountains beneath big blue skies, and 6 clean trekkers - Ernst, Christine, Steffi, Sam, Charles and me.
Minibus to Beni (बेनी) (11.30am) for an early lunch at the Hotel Mustang Lete while Chhiring supervised negotiations and kit transfer to "local community transport" - a jeep and a battered bus. Further "negotiations" before we could depart Beni on the dirt road following the Myagdi Khola for the dusty, twisty, bouncy journey to Darbang (Darwang दर्बङ) for sweet tea and seat swop, Sibang where we met lentil winnowing girls (and the original planned overnight stop) and Muna (मुना) where the road now ends in a volley ball pitch-cum-car park by the school.
Val, Chhiring and the crew set up camp and we kept out of the way, sorting out our tents and chatting in the blue mess tent as Dal Bhat dinner was prepared. Charles produced his never-ending-tub of home made chilli which was to last us for the full four weeks, like magic.
To bed c 9pm under a big bright moon.

REPORT ON THE EVENTS OF 30TH OCTOBER 2009by Mrs. Uma Ramanathan EC Member
The programme to motivate and guide the students of class was planned after the teachers expressed their worry about the behaviour of some children, lack of proper guidance and control and need for making them aware that they had to work hard and focus on the future. G.Senthilkumar and Iyyaparaj of Helikx, phychologists, and trainers of children with learning disabilities and trainers and counsellors were invited by the alumini Association to guide the 12th and 10th class students on how to plan their career and improve their learning skills and develop their strengths.
Mr. Sentil kumar has made a special chart specially for this session, pointing out the courses available in the enginnering, medical, humanities fields and the options from which to choose. The career guidance map is so clear and so detailed that anyone willing to sit and go through it would be able to chart out their own career.
To help the students do this, Mr. Senthil Kumar also pointed out that the students have to understand that attitude skill and knowledge is important, and they have to develop these factors to reach anywhere. To make them understand options, he said that 6+4 would be 10 but 10= need not necessarily be 6+4, it could be 5+5 or any such combination and so they have to understand the options and then choose.
The students were made to understand that listening and active listening and communication was most important. He asked them to remember

The students were asked to think whether they want to GET or TAKE
Mr. Ayyappa Raj spoke about mind mapping and pointed out how pages of material could be reduced to a map to retain ideas easily. He pointed out that ideas had to be gathered and the key words in the topic made out to. Then the student had to start from the middle of a page draw branches which would become thinner as they went further away so that every sub idea and topic was made apparent and at times just the first letters of the branches would bring to memory the idea and the topic.
He pointed out how SQR3 was important- survey, question, read, recite and recall to improve memory. The students understood that memory was partly by reproduction and partly by recalling and all of them took an active part and asked for more of such programmes.
The 10th class students especially wanted to know how to convince their parents about their choice of subjects and at the end of the session understood that they could make a mind map of the subject of their choice and point out the suitability to their parents and ask their parents to do the same for the subject of the parent's choice.
A discussion with the resource persons made it clear that the students need help in communication and that could help to sort out a lot of behavioral problems. We need more programmes on this and the school is also willing to cooperate as they do not have the facility to deal with ssuch problems.
Also the school was pointing out that a lot of people were disinclined towards humanities and that the subject could be removed for want of strength. If we had someone to talk on the opportunities in this field it would help a lot of students.

Though I am a lawyer, I took interest in counselling when I found people with behavioral problems in a marriage and have participated in workshops conducted by Chennai Counsellors Foundation by eminent people in the field. In fact, the workshop conducted by dr. Betty Lou Bettetner from Philidelhia was an eye -opener to what could be achieved by suggestions and encouragment. Dr. Narayana Reddy's workshop on sexuality and counselling made me realise that lack of basic knowledge about the physical structure and well-being is the cause for abnormal behaviour and at times violence and aberrations in the mind. NIMHANS, has now found it necessary to conduct courses in schools in Dindigul to help the students to identify and correct their behaviour patterns as they feel that this affects their studies. In fact, I am working with a counsellor on a client who passed out of IIT and has MBA's to his credit from USA but needs treatment for mental disorder as the stress of the academics proved to be too much for him. I think therefore that students need help today is there is no support system from the nuclear family.
We have to therefore think about more of such programmes especially when it is apparent that they look elsewhere for guidance.

Directly in front of me was a guy who'd travelled all the way from 1981. Decided to grab a surreptitious photo by using my Canon flip screen. Woulda been the perfect crime if only I hadn't accidentally fired the flash. Doh!

Waitangi is a locality in the Bay of Islands on the North Island of New Zealand. It is close to the town of Paihia (of which it is considered a part), 60 kilometres north of Whangarei. The name means weeping waters in Māori.
Site of national significance
Waitangi is best known for being the location where the Treaty of Waitangi was signed on February 6, 1840; however, it is also the place where the Declaration of Independence of New Zealand was signed five years prior, on October 28, 1835. This document was ratified by the British Crown the following year (1836).
Signing of the Treaty of Waitangi
The Treaty of Waitangi proper began on February 5, 1840 when a public meeting was held on the grounds in front of James Busby's residence. Lieutenant Governor Hobson read a proposed document to the 300 or so European and Māori who were in attendance and then provided the Māori chiefs an opportunity to speak. Initially, a large number of chiefs (including Te Kemara, Rewa and Moka Te Kainga-mataa) spoke against accepting the Crown's proposition to rule over Aotearoa.[1] Later in the proceedings a few chiefs began to entertain the idea; amongst the more notable chiefs to support the Crown were Te Wharerahi, Pumuka, and the two Hokianga chiefs, Tamati Waka Nene and his brother Eruera Maihi Patuone.[1] The proceedings were ended and were to recommence on February 7; however, a number of chiefs pressed to sign earlier. The Treaty of Waitangi was initially signed on February 6, 1840 in a marquee erected in the grounds of James Busby's house at Waitangi by representatives of the British Crown, the chiefs of the Confederation of the United Tribes of New Zealand, and other Māori tribal leaders, and subsequently by other Māori chiefs at other places in New Zealand. Not all of the chiefs chose to sign this document, with a number of chiefs either delaying or refusing to put pen to paper.
In 2007, researcher Brent Kerehona claimed[citation needed] that uncertainty has arisen over whether Ngapuhi chief Moka Te Kainga-mataa actually signed; despite his name appearing on this document. A close inspection of the Treaty document itself shows no evidence of a signature or 'mark' next to Moka's name (which is written as 'Te Tohu o Moka'). Kerehona elaborates by inferring that it is clear by the accounts of Colenso (1890)[1] that not only did Moka clearly express his concerns about the Treaty's effects whilst at the meeting on February 5, but that the discussion that he had with the Reverend Charles Baker, combined with Moka's final comment, should be taken into account.
The introduction of the Treaty effectively revoked the Declaration of Independence, making New Zealand a British colony, and the Treaty is generally considered the founding document of New Zealand as a nation. Waitangi Day is the annual celebration of the signing, and is New Zealand's national holiday.
The Treaty House
What is now called the 'Treaty House' was first occupied by James Busby who acted as the British resident in New Zealand from 1832 until the arrival of William Hobson. In preparation for New Zealand Centenary in 1940 the Treaty House was restored in the 1930s, and the Māori meeting house was built beside it, sparking the first emergence of the Treaty into Pākehā attention since the 19th century.

As my first proper photo shoot, I didn't think the editing was very good so I have re-edited the pictures and re-uploaded them.
Super Hair Barbie #3101 from 1986 modelling her jumpsuit before it deteriorates. Unfortunately the jumpsuit is made from a faux leather material that deteriorates over time and as far as I know there isn't a way to prevent this from happening. The same material was used as a substitute for leather in most outfits made between I believe 1982 and 1987.
Nowadays it seems so many "car-guys" are obsessed with making their car as low as possible, cambering the wheels, etc. It's refreshing to see something tastefully done, in a way that actually improves handling.. as opposed to making it handle more poorly. Well done, sir.
