It's said that this is the most photographed monumental sculpture in the city.
Created by American sculptor, Paul Manship, who had an interest in mythological subjects and events.
Its central theme is best stated by the quote that’s carved in the red granite wall behind him, taken from Aeschylus: “Prometheus, Teacher in Every Art, Brought the Fire That Hath Proved to Mortals a Means to Mighty Ends.”
Bedecke deinen Himmel, Zeus,
Mit Wolkendunst
Und übe, dem Knaben gleich,
Der Disteln köpft,
An Eichen dich und Bergeshöhn;
Mußt mir meine Erde
Doch lassen stehn
Und meine Hütte,
die du nicht gebaut,
Und meinen Herd,
Um dessen Glut
Du mich beneidest.
Location: Schloß Daun (Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany)
Ingredients:
One ounce Jägermeister
One ounce Prometheus Springs of choice
Prom-Bomb Variation:
Equal Parts Beer & Prometheus Springs, then drop in a shot of Jägermeister.
Then go over in Krylon Fusion Gloss Black. It's a nice light paint that won't goop up and make the finish look odd.
Spend the extra money on Krylon, it's worth it.
