When the city of Pripyat was built, a large statue of Prometheus was constructed next to the cinema. After the 1986 nuclear disaster, the statue was decontaminated and moved to the Chernobyl nuclear power plant next to the ABK-1 building.
A twisting naked figure of Prometheus hangs near the centre of the panel against a mountainous background, his hands manacled to the rocks above. His mouth is open, screaming in pain, as he looks with a distressed, emotional expression towards Herakles, his liberator. Zeus had meted out a terrible punishment to Prometheus for giving fire to man: he was tied to the Caucasus mountains and had his liver pecked out daily by an eagle. Herakles has shot the eagle and is undoing the first mannacle from Prometheus' left hand. Herakles is naked except for a lionskin worn as combined cap and cloak, and his club lies below, across the lower right corner. At the lower left, the body of the dead eagle, shot by Herakles, is slumped over the rocks. A small mountain nymph, holding a throwing stick, appears among the rocks above the eagle. This is a highly effective hellenistic-style pictorial composition.

This is one of Laguerre's last painted schemes (1718-20). It was painted at the same time as his masterpiece, the Saloon at Blenheim. The principal theme is the story of Prometheus and Pandora.
In Classical mythology, Prometheus stole fire from the gods, and was punished by Jupiter who chained him to a rock. He was released by Hercules. Jupiter punished mankind for Prometheus's theft of fire by making Pandora open her box (depicted on the ceiling), which unleashed all the world's evils.
Only hope remained inside. The story is depicted in general terms, but the choice of subject must be an allusion to the disastrous fire of 1714, which prompted the commission.

PROMETHEUS - CJ Prometey
In CJ Prometey we find a musician envisioning parallels between himself, his life, his own obsessiveness and the myth of Prometheus. In his own words:
"No legend Prometheus, merely a man! But a man in whose soul burns a fire that vanquishes weakness and despair with flames born of hope and faith in the greatest light, the most beautiful on earth… the LOVE! His music is his life, a constant struggle with himself; his soul, an endless road the heart is wandering on, with confident steps beating a precise rhythm, the rhythm of Trance."
So, after these words let's enjoy the album, which bears the name of the man whose soul is aflame. An 80-minute aural flight featuring powerful, thoroughly melodic trance rhythms, plus excursions into downbeat, breaks and even some housey stuff. After only a few bars the spark catches light. On reaching the catchy harmonies of 'May' and the 'shaky' beats of 'Advent', it has become unstoppable like a prairie fire!

Paul Manship's highly recognizable bronze gilded statue of the Greek legend of the Titan Prometheus recumbent, bringing fire to mankind, features prominently in the sunken plaza at the front of 30 Rockefeller Plaza. The model for Prometheus was Leonardo (Leon) Nole, and the inscription from Aeschylus, on the granite wall behind, reads: "Prometheus, teacher in every art, brought the fire that hath proved to mortals a means to mighty ends." The Rockefeller Center was sponsored by, and named after, John D Rockefeller Jr. (1874-1960). The development consists of 14 Art Deco buildings, designed by Raymond Mathewson Hood (1881-1934) and constructed between 1930-39, plus 4 International-Style buildings built in the 1960-70s.
The only project employed 40,000 people, and cost an estimated $250m at the time (this included the acquiring the land and demolishing some existing buildings).
