The light is burning atop U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District’s Barkley Hydropower Plant Unit 1 indicating it is again generating power during a 72-hour run Nov. 5, 2013 at the Kuttawa, Ky., facility. The unit suffered a phase-to-ground fault resulting in a fire that damaged the generator wirings in December 2010. Repair work began Aug. 16, 2012 when contractor employees lifted the 270-ton rotor assembly from the unit by crane and placed it on a nearby pedestal for repair by National Electric Coil from Columbus, Ohio. Barring unforeseen problems, the 32.5 Megawatt generator is scheduled to be placed back in service Nov. 18, 2013. (USACE photo by Fred Tucker)
