Volgens de Archiefwet (S.B. 16 februari 2006 no. 28, Artikel 4), zijn de overheidsorganen verplicht de onder hen berustende archiefbescheiden in goede, geordende en toegankelijke staat te brengen en te bewaren, alsmede zorg te dragen voor de selectie en vemietiging de van daarvoor in aanmerking komende archiefbescheiden.

Vanaf januari 2018 is het Ministerie Binnenlandse Nationaal van Zaken/ Archief Suriname van start gegaan met het houden van werksessies met het doel de aangewezen projectleiders de hoofden DIV die de diverse ministeries vertegenwoordigen instructies te geven voor het opstellen van een concept selectielijst voor hun respectieve ministeries c.q. directoraten. Volgens de werkplanning moesten de volgende documenten door de ministeries opgesteld zijn, projectplan (opgesteld door de projectleider van het ministerie), bestandslijst (gemaakt door het hoofd DIV) Sedertdien zijn diverse werksessies gehouden met de projectleiders en hoofden DIV, waarbij de projectplannen zijn gepresenteerd.

Ook de vereiste documenten die dienen ter voorbereiding de concept van selectielijsten zijn door ministeries geformuleerd. In januari 2020 was het eindelijk zo ver dat het Nationaal Archief Suriname ondersteund door de Nederlandse deskundige, prof. Charles Jeurgens, een organiseerde. deelnemers workshop aan De de workshop werden tools aangereikt om op basis van de selectie criteria documenten gevormd door hun ministerie te waarderen.
