Deep Water (the premier act)
Choreography: E.E. Balcos
Dancers E.E.MOTION: E.E. Balcos, Audrey Baran, Melissa Jesse, and Katie Matter
John Allemeier and E.E. Balcos created the conceptual design of Deep Water before the music or choreographic process began. This premiere in four section is inspired by the murder ballad: "Omie Wise". Murder Ballads are traditional folksongs whose lyrics recount the events of notorious murders and are passed on from one generation to the next. "Omie Wise" tells the story of the drowning of an orphan girl named Naomi Wise and the escape of her murderer Jonathan Lewis in Randolph County, North Carolina in approximately 1808. The music is scored for winds, timpani, and piano.

The space program developed in the context of the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union. Each country sent people into space to show its system's superiority over its rival's.
This exhibit at the Henry Ford Museum is titled "Apollo: When We Went to the Moon", but it includes the historical background of the space program (starting with the Cold War) and also contains items from the Soviet space program.
