The North Charleston Police Department implemented Project S.T.A.N.D (Stop and Take A New Direction) aimed at not just arresting low level narcotics dealers with little or no prior criminal history but to go a step further and help those involved in the activity change their lives for the better. This is program aimed at reducing recidivism through working on all aspects of the criminals’ lives.
This project was the focus of a Dateline NBC special entitled “Intersection” which aired on March 14, 2013.

The Fall 2010 Student Hackathon brought in hundreds of students from 30 universities to NYU's Courant Institute for 24 hours of creative hacking on New York City startups' APIs.
Selected startups presented their technologies at the beginning of the event, and students formed groups to brainstorm and begin coding on their ideas. Many students worked into the night, foregoing sleep to fulfill their visions.
On Sunday afternoon students presented their projects to an audience including a judging panel, which selected the final winners.
hackNY hosts hackathons one each semester, as well as a Summer Fellows Program, which pairs quantitative and computational students with startups which can demonstrate a strong mentoring environment, a problem for a student to work on, a person to mentor them, and a place for them to work. Startups selected to host a student are expected to compensate student Fellows. Students enjoy free housing together and a pedagogical lecture series to introduce them to the ins and outs of joining and founding a startup.

University of Kentucky President Eli Capilouto joined the president of the UK Student Development Council, Jonathon Nunley, Kentucky Historical Society Marker Program Coordinator Becky Riddle and others April 15 in dedicating the latest addition to the Live Blue Legacy historical marker program. The marker is made possible through donations from members of the Class of 2012.
This historical highway marker, the 19th in a series, pays tribute to UK student traditions dating back more than 100 years.
An early rivalry between freshman and sophomore classes on the UK campuses was the annual 'Flag Rush' competition where one class would defend their flag from being captured by a rush of competitors.
Replacing the flag rush in 1913 was the 'Tug of War' across Clifton Pond. Students were granted a half-holiday for the annual drenching, and crowds could reach more than 2,000 for the event.
The dedication ceremony and unveiling of the marker took place at a site located near the William T. Young Library on the UK campus. A reception followed.
Since 1994, the Live Blue Legacy Program has supported the placement of Kentucky Historical Society Highway Markers across the UK campus. The Live Blue Legacy Program is administered by the Student Development Council, whose members solicit gifts from members of the graduating class, in this case the Class of 2012. These funds are used to purchase, install and dedicate a marker in the name of that particular class.
The CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) East Africa is working with partners to empower communities in lower Nyando manage climate risk. Agro-forestry, land and water management are among the mitigation interventions employed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Nyando basin. So far, 22 tree nurseries, some owned by self-help groups (more than half of all the nurseries are female-owned). More than 50,000 high-quality tree seedlings have been produced, each worth KSh10-20. About 23,500 multipurpose trees have been planted in homesteads with a 75 per cent survival rate and the local community is establishing a two acre demonstration woodlot. Photos: K. Traumann. On April 22, 14 girls and two coaches from Brazil who are a part of "Las Estrellas," a sports, leadership and English program, came to Knoxville, TN as part of the U.S. Department of State Empowering Women and Girls through Sports Initiative. After the first day, they had already experienced University culture by participating in Dr. Ashleigh Huffman's Service-Learning class and eating in the cafeteria.

The spring 2013 hackNY student hackathon brought in hundreds of students to Columbia University's Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science April 6-7 for 24 hours of creative collaborative hacking on New York City startups' APIs.
NYC Startups, selected by a student organizing committee, presented their technologies at the beginning of the event, after which students formed groups to work through the night implementing their own ideas for fresh hacks built on top of these APIs.
On Sunday afternoon students presented their projects to an audience including a judging panel featuring members of the NYC startup community, which selected the final winning teams.
Since April 2010, hackNY hosts student hackathons one each semester, as well as the hackNY Fellows program, a structured internship which pairs quantitative and computational students with startups which can demonstrate a strong mentoring environment: a problem for a student to work on, a person to mentor them, and a place for them to work. Startups selected to host a student compensate student Fellows. Students enjoy free housing together and a pedagogical lecture series to introduce them to the ins and outs of joining and founding a startup in NYC.

South Rim Greenway Construction August 2011.
Grand Canyon's greenway trail system is a multi-modal, accessible trail system that encourages non-motorized travel, complementing the park's free shuttle system which includes seasonal shuttle bus service to and from Tusayan.
Greenway III (the Tusayan Greenway), on the South Rim, consists of a 9-foot wide, compacted soil surface for pedestrians and bicyclists, with a wide shoulder area that may be used by equestrians. As funding becomes available, the compacted soil surface will be replaced with pavement. The trail is being constructed by Grand Canyon’s Trail Crew to comply with accessibility guidelines for outdoor developed areas.
“We are excited about the construction of this section of trail,” stated Park Superintendent, Dave Uberuaga, “It will not only provide visitors, employees and residents another new and green option for travel between the park and Tusayan, but it will realign the popular Arizona Trail east of Highway 64, eliminating several road crossings.”
Funding for this project was made possible through a grant received from the Federal Highway Administration’s Public Lands Highways Program. General donations to Grand Canyon National Park’s trails program also helped fund the project.
Walking and hiking Grand Canyon's many trails can provide an excellent source of exercise while allowing you to enjoy the breathtaking scenery and views of the canyon. People of all ages may enjoy walks along the scenic Rim Trail, a part of the greenway trails system, on the South Rim of the canyon. This trail offers views from many different vantage points, connects with several points of interest within the park and includes the park's Trail of Time, a walkable geologic timeline of the canyon. The park's greenway trail system is a good option for all ages, including those with young children.

This is the first of four version of our program/bulletin for our upcoming series, "The Gospel According To. . . " Each week's message will feature a different persona and how he or she lived out the gospel. We had artists who go to our church paint portraits of each of the people. So, each program will feature the painting with this same graphic/person's name underneath. I'm only posting this one for now because I'm waiting on the other paintings to be finished. The project needs to go to press in a week, and I'd welcome any feedback!

During a Native American history-themed sleepover at the National Archives in Washington, DC, 101 kids and their grown-ups spent the night enjoying history-related activities, learning from special guests actor Martin Sensmeier, Jim Thorpe historians Bob Wheeler and Flo Ridlon, and Native American storyteller Perry Ground. After sleeping over night in the Rotunda, participants enjoyed a pancake breakfast made by the Archivist of the United States, David S. Ferriero, on October 14, 2018.
