Anne and I were invited as Jess's parents to an awards evening held by the Gauteng Education Department for the top ten matriculants in Johannesburg North District. Unfortunatley Jess was busy at Cape Town University with Registration, so we accepted the certificate and prizes on her behalf. (R500 gift voucher at Mr Price, a printer, a CD from Billy Bhembe on motivation and some cosmetics!). It was an interesting evening, with interesting speeches, entertainment by some pupils and a buffet dinner. There were also awards for the top ten students from "previously disadvantaged communities". There prizes were more substantial which is understandable - there is more need for resources in those communities. It was altogether a heartwarming evening and heartening to see and hear about the schools that are performing when one usually only hears about the problems in the newspapers. It was good news for a change!
It always made me felt great working with a group of young, passionate & energetic university students over a weekend at Pork Dickson. It is indeed a wonderful experience which I was invited to conduct the SCHOLARS’ TRAINING PROGRAMME for 15 university students coming from different background, engineering, medicine, laws, business, pharmacy & accounting. We spend a great weekend in Bayu Bay Resort, Port Dickson going through some learning points on mindset alignment, expanding comfort zone, communication skills, team works, leadership & etc… Thank you for all your great participation and wishing the very best success on your study and career. I am sure you all are going to be somebody someday… Special appreciation to my best buddy /co-trainer James Ong for your time and efforts being with us over the weekend.
