On 15 October 2015, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Azerbaijan celebrated the International Day of Rural Women in country’s rural Neftchala region. The celebration of this international day was symbolical, as we headed to Neftchala to commemorate the launch of small businesses created with the help of the project “Economic and Social Empowerment of Young and Disabled Women” jointly implemented by UNDP, Coca-Cola Foundation and Azerbaijan’ s State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs.
Ms. Nato Alhazishvili, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in Azerbaijan visited Neftchala on that day and congratulated local women on the occasion of both International Rural Women Day and their newly-created jobs. “Our [UN…] new Sustainable Development Goals make gender equality and women empowerment issues a priority in our activities globally. Your empowerment and your success will make Azerbaijan stronger and help the country to achieve #GlobalGoals by 2030”.
Our project’s goal is to create opportunities for Neftchala’s young and disabled women and to fully participate in the economic and social life of their community.

On 27 February, Ambassador Helmut Hoffmann of Germany signed an agreement with the ISU Director to contribute to the Convention's Sponsorship Programme.
For over a decade, a delegate sponsorship programme has been fundamental to ensuring that expert representatives of mine-affected developing countries can actively participate in the work of the Convention.
Such participation has proven essential to ensuring that States Parties in the process of fulfilling obligations can report on their progress and express their needs for assistance.

Probably my favourite programme as a kid, I bought this book a few years back and wallowed in nostalgia at the production tales from behind the scenes. Funny how as a kid you want to believe it's real, but as an adult you can extend the wonder by looking behind the curtain to see just how the smoke and mirrors help us make believe.
