The North Charleston Police Department implemented Project S.T.A.N.D (Stop and Take A New Direction) aimed at not just arresting low level narcotics dealers with little or no prior criminal history but to go a step further and help those involved in the activity change their lives for the better. This is program aimed at reducing recidivism through working on all aspects of the criminals’ lives.
This project was the focus of a Dateline NBC special entitled “Intersection” which aired on March 14, 2013.

The CSG Community came together for Thanksgiving on Tuesday, Nov. 25. The program featured musical performances from all four divisions and remarks from Head of School Jennifer Ciccarelli and Student Speaker Aisha Iftikhar '15.

I have to say this was my favorite shot from Missouri. Oh it might not be a nice pretty landscape, or a national monument, but it took me back to a place I have been, an innocent time in which entering that baseball stadium felt like the best moment in the world, with the torn stub in one hand, and mitt in the other hoping that tonight would be the night you catch a foul ball. And as you leave the turnstiles, the gentleman yells out "Programs!", a magazine dedicated to this night, this game, and the memories you will make.

Ponce, PR – El anexo del Teatro La Perla fue el escenario de una ceremonia muy emotiva, donde miembros de la unidad 276 de Mantenimiento de la Reserva del Ejército de Estados Unidos en Puerto Rico, recibieron el galardón “Bienvenido a Casa Soldado-Ciudadano” por un trabajo de excelencia realizado en el teatro de guerra en Irak.
Este es un premio ofrecido por el Congreso de Estados Unidos exclusivamente a soldados reservistas movilizados en la guerra contra el Terrorismo con el cual se reconoce el valor y sacrificio de estos soldados en el teatro de guerra.
Los 150 reservistas de la unidad 276, con base de operaciones en Juana Diaz, estuvieron movilizados por un año y tuvieron la misión de recoger e inspeccionar equipo militar de unidades próximas a relocalizarse o retirarse de la zona, como parte de la retirada de tropas ordenada por el Presidente Obama.
“Me siento bien orgullosa de ser parte de esta actividad y de ser una esposa de un soldado luchando por la libertad que necesitamos todos los días, en toda ocasión y en todo momento”, indicó Rosa Medina Rodriguez, esposa del Especialista Guillermo Loperena, luego de explicar la dificultad que atravesó su familia en la ausencia de su esposo.
La Sra. Medina agradeció a la Reserva del Ejército por el apoyo que brindan a través de todos sus programas y ayudas a familiares de soldados movilizados y por esta actividad en que se reconoce la labor que realizan los soldados ciudadanos. “Fue una ceremonia muy bonita, hecha en un momento muy especial”, dijo el especialista Loperena, quien cuenta con 4 años de experiencia militar, refiriéndose al décimo aniversario de los ataques del 11 de septiembre y que marcó el inicio de la nueva gran generación del 9/11 en el ejército.
En la misma estuvieron presentes altos líderes de la Reserva del Ejército en Puerto Rico, así como también altos funcionarios del gobierno local quienes elogiaron a los presentes.

Piedras Blancas Light Station Outstanding Natural Area is located on a rugged windswept point of land six miles north of Hearst Castle, along California’s scenic Highway One. First illuminated as an aid to navigation in 1875, the lighthouse still casts a beam of light to guide mariners along the rocky California coast. Today the lighthouse beckons the visitor, offering a glimpse into history and a respite from the modern world.
Access to Piedras Blancas is by guided tours only. Tours are offered year round and feature cultural and natural history, as well as spectacular scenery.

This lecture series explores key concepts in computational media to empower individuals to imagine, collaborate, provoke, and prototype through computing.
As a result of its widespread adoption, digital media has transitioned from "new media" to a ubiquitous part of contemporary life. This shift from novelty to familiarity has considerable ramifications for academic institutions working in the fields of media arts and digital culture. Exploring the formal potentials of information and networked technologies is no longer of significant interest: information technologies need to be understood as an embedded part of culture and history. Digital cultural practices must also work to extend their parent disciplines, including the studio arts, media history and theory, design, computer science and engineering.
Each speaker in the "Computation After New Media" series will focus on one word— a single term they feel is a core part of their work within the framework of computation. These lectures will be aimed at exploring the underlying structures of computationalism, providing an important leverage into the philosophy, languages, and principles of digital media.

The Fall 2010 Student Hackathon brought in hundreds of students from 30 universities to NYU's Courant Institute for 24 hours of creative hacking on New York City startups' APIs.
Selected startups presented their technologies at the beginning of the event, and students formed groups to brainstorm and begin coding on their ideas. Many students worked into the night, foregoing sleep to fulfill their visions.
On Sunday afternoon students presented their projects to an audience including a judging panel, which selected the final winners.
hackNY hosts hackathons one each semester, as well as a Summer Fellows Program, which pairs quantitative and computational students with startups which can demonstrate a strong mentoring environment, a problem for a student to work on, a person to mentor them, and a place for them to work. Startups selected to host a student are expected to compensate student Fellows. Students enjoy free housing together and a pedagogical lecture series to introduce them to the ins and outs of joining and founding a startup.

I finally have a desk at home where I can sit & program away on my brandy-new FiOS Internet line. While nice in some ways, it was wearing a bit thin to have to go to Panera every time I wanted to do some work. :)

HONOLULU — Pfc. Isabela Silva, Department of Nursing, Tripler Army Medical Center, learns first-hand how being intoxicated affects motor skills while attempting to drive a go-kart while wearing “drunk goggles,” provided by U.S. Army Garrison-Hawaii’s Army Substance Abuse Program. Her battle buddy, Spc. Jonathan Macklin, Department of Pathology, TAMC, attempts to help her avoid obstacles. ASAP was just one of the many presenters on hand teaching Soldiers, civilians and contractors at Tripler Army Medical Center and Schofield Barracks Health Clinic about patient and personal safety.
