Coding Kandinsky: Free Workshop for Middle Schoolers

Professional media artist and educator Sofy Yuditskaya presented a daylong workshop focusing on creating digital art. After exploring the galleries, middle school students used Adobe Photoshop and the visual programming language Pure Data to create and code their own original work inspired by the art of Vasily Kandinsky.

25 members of the tenth year cohort of the Aboriginal Youth Internship Program (AYIP) celebrated the completion of their 12-month program at a ceremony in Victoria, BC.
Sky High Ranch Camp staff trained through each program area, including pond and arts and crafts activities.
Over 500 boys and girls participate in the 3-month program of weekly sessions, offered year-round in Lubuto Libraries, and participants additionally form Mentoring Clubs in their communities. After each weekly session the youth are interviewed to determine mastery of the message and to determine its and previous weeks’ sessions impact on their lives. A large number of participants are street children, and all come from highly vulnerable circumstances.
The North Charleston Police Department implemented Project S.T.A.N.D (Stop and Take A New Direction) aimed at not just arresting low level narcotics dealers with little or no prior criminal history but to go a step further and help those involved in the activity change their lives for the better. This is program aimed at reducing recidivism through working on all aspects of the criminals’ lives.
This project was the focus of a Dateline NBC special entitled “Intersection” which aired on March 14, 2013.

The clinic specializes in "culturally competent care," which means more than just transcending language barriers. Japanese patients, for example, may worry that the medicine they've been prescribed is too strong for their body size, Dr. Michael Fetters says. Addressing such concerns proactively can help with adherence and patient outcomes.
