Refugees: A Moral and Economic Imperative
History will record the mass migration of people as a central crisis of our time, creating a rolling, global epicenter of poverty and human suffering. Pope Francis has asked the international community to “confront the reality of those who have been displaced by force.” This luncheon session will be devoted to a high-level discussion on the scope and nature of the refugee crisis, and what the private sector can do to rescue the futures of those men, women, and children permanently displaced by violence.

Would you like to travel to the Netherlands to immerse yourself in Dutch culture (think clogs, cheese and Flemish art) but continue your course in English? Could learning Asian business skills in a local language, and a few games of tea house mahjong, improve your global career prospects? Gain a competitive edge against your peers by studying at the University of Oklahoma, world-renowned for their research and teaching in atmospheric sciences. Maybe soaking up the Madrid sun, feasting on tapas and polishing your Spanish, while continuing your studies, is more your speed, or you might like to study alongside the scientists who played an integral role in the discovery of the Higgs Boson while exploring Israel's most dynamic and diverse city.

HUMPHREYS GARRISON – The U.S. Army’s top enlisted Soldier, Sergeant Major of the Army Kenneth O. Preston, paid a visit here, April 19.
During his trip to the garrison, he had an opportunity to view the construction progress via a helicopter flyover, met with Soldiers at the Red Dragon Dining Facility, received a briefing/demonstration from the 3rd Military Intelligence Battalion and then met with about 1,600 Soldiers at the Super Gym.
Preston, currently in his seventh year in the position, focused primarily on the Army’s Comprehensive Soldier Fitness program, which has been developed to “build resiliency and improve the performance of every Soldier and Family that are experiencing stress. Applying the CSF will help the Army Family regain needed strength in body and mind.”

The Fall 2010 Student Hackathon brought in hundreds of students from 30 universities to NYU's Courant Institute for 24 hours of creative hacking on New York City startups' APIs.
Selected startups presented their technologies at the beginning of the event, and students formed groups to brainstorm and begin coding on their ideas. Many students worked into the night, foregoing sleep to fulfill their visions.
On Sunday afternoon students presented their projects to an audience including a judging panel, which selected the final winners.
hackNY hosts hackathons one each semester, as well as a Summer Fellows Program, which pairs quantitative and computational students with startups which can demonstrate a strong mentoring environment, a problem for a student to work on, a person to mentor them, and a place for them to work. Startups selected to host a student are expected to compensate student Fellows. Students enjoy free housing together and a pedagogical lecture series to introduce them to the ins and outs of joining and founding a startup.

Moderadora:
Olinda Salguero, Jefa de Gabinete de la SG-SICA
Invitado:
