Africa’s largest kingfisher, the Giant Kingfisher (Megaceryle maxima), rules the rivers with its shaggy crest and thunderous dives. Males wear a chestnut breast band, females an orange belly, both masters of the hunt. From crabs to fish, nothing escapes its powerful beak. And when nesting season comes, they carve tunnels up to 8.5 meters into riverbanks true engineers of the wild. Would you dare to buzz past this river monarch?

*[Among the wading (big) birds of our area with extremely

long-legs and extremely wide-wingspans, they seem to be

MUCH BIGGER than the great-blue-herons and great-egrets]

*[When they all get 'honking together', even in-flight,

they are REALLY, REALLY LOUD! Fun to hear. LOL]

*[Incredible that these (two) are totally WILD and floating

around North America. They seem to return every winter]

Just playing around last night...I took this shot in the mirror and then cropped out the camera.

The bald eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) is a bird of prey found in North America. A sea eagle, it has two known subspecies and forms a species pair with the white-tailed eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla). Its range includes most of Canada and Alaska, all of the contiguous United States, and northern Mexico. It is found near large bodies of open water with an abundant food supply and old-growth trees for nesting.

The bald eagle is an opportunistic feeder which subsists mainly on fish, which it swoops down and snatches from the water with its talons. It builds the largest nest of any North American bird and the largest tree nests ever recorded for any animal species, up to 4 m (13 ft) deep, 2.5 m (8.2 ft) wide, and 1 metric ton (1.1 short tons) in weight. Sexual maturity is attained at the age of four to five years.

This bird is a resident of the Hawk Conservancy Trust is a bird park and conservation charity that cares for and displays birds of prey. It is located in Weyhill, Hampshire, England, near to the A303 road and the town of Andover.

Founded as a zoo by local farmer Reg Smith and his wife Hilary, the park was incorporated as the Hawk Conservancy Trust in 2002. It is also the site of the National Bird of Prey Hospital, a veterinary hospital that takes in injured birds of prey.
