Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord:
Mit durchschnittlich einer Million Besuchern (2017: 1,2 Mio.) pro Jahr gehört der Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord zu den beliebtesten Natur- und Kulturlandschaften in Nordrhein-Westfalen. Seit 1994 ist die 180 Hektar große Industriebrache als Multifunktionspark neuen Stils rund um die Uhr und bei freiem Eintritt geöffnet. Im Zentrum steht ein stillgelegtes Hüttenwerk, in dessen Anlagen Industriegeschichte, Freizeitgestaltung, Kultur- und Firmenveranstaltungen, Lichtkunst und Naturerleben zu einem Gesamtkonzept zusammenfinden. Einst waren hier Wiesen und Felder. Doch dann erkannte der Industriemagnat August Thyssen die Standortvorteile dieses Areals (ca. 180 Hektar) als Produktionsort für Roheisen. Im Jahre 1901 erfolgte der Baubeginn. Und am 16. Mai 1903 wurde Hochofen 1 angeblasen. Das Hüttenwerk in DU-Meiderich nahm seine Arbeit auf und wurde zu einer der zahlreichen Produktionsstätten für Roheisen auf dem heutigen Stadtgebiet.
Thyssen hatte drei gute Gründe für die Ansiedlung: die Nähe zur Kohle, zum Rhein und zu den Eisenbahnlinien.
Das Werk wuchs schnell. Hochofen 2 ging im August 1903 in Betrieb. 1912 standen dann alle fünf Hochöfen unter Feuer. Die Belegschaftsstärke lag bei durchschnittlich 1600 Mitarbeitern. Den höchsten Wert erreichte sie 1938/39 kurz vor Beginn des Zweiten Weltkriegs, als der Hunger nach Eisen der Rüstungsindustrie fast unersättlich war. Es waren fast 2000 Hüttenarbeiter in Beschäftigung. 300 verschiedene Sorten Roheisen wurden hier produziert. Nur eines wurde hier nie hergestellt: Stahl.
Geschlossen wurde das Werk am 4. April 1985. Fast zeitgleich wurde das Stahlwerk in Duisburg-Rheinhausen geschlossen. Mittendrin im Niedergang von Kohle und Stahl. In den 82 Jahren Betriebstätigkeit wurden 37 Millionen Tonnen Roheisen produziert. Hochofen 3 und 4 wurden 1968 bzw. 1970 abgerissen. (Das Werk in Rheinhausen wurde komplett dem Erdboden gleichgemacht.)
Jahrelang gammelte das Werksgelände vor sich hin und die Vandalen und die Schmierfinken mit den Spraydosen tobten sich hier aus. Heute trägt das gesamte Gelände den Namen »Landschaftspark Nord« und dient als Kulisse für diverse Events. Diese ziehen immer wieder zig Tausende von Besuchern aus nah und fern an.

Well I finally pulled the trigger after careful consideration (aka spontaneously) and bought myself a Macbook Pro. After owning the iPhone for quite sometime I was overly impressed with Apples GUI and support. I intended on getting the new 2.0ghz Aluminum one or the White 2.1ghz model but some how walked out with a Macbook Pro which set me back a pretty penny. Thank god for credit...LOL
Great thing to do during this uncertain economy, huh? But I have to admin she's "pwetty."

cfcards, rainscreen, poncho, umbrella, couple of pens, book, notepad, 80gb photobank, extra batteries, two bodies with lenses (yes Ozbozz it can be done :-)) being a 40D with the 100-400mm attached, a 300D with a 17-85 mm attached, food, couple of soda's, my contactlensstuff it even has a tripod hookup on the side. AND still has room for souvenirs.
Now where do I put my sunhood for my 100-400.....
