The Las Vegas City Council recognized the service of outgoing Mayor Pro Tem and Ward 1 Councilwoman Lois Tarkanian and Ward 3 Councilman Bob Coffin at the Wednesday, June 19, City Council meeting.
Mayor Pro Tem Tarkanian served on the City Council since 2005 and was reelected three times, most recently in 2015. Prior to her time with the city, she served for 12 years as a member of the Clark County Board of School Trustees. As an educator, she has held positions as a teacher, speech pathologist, principal, administrator and university instructor. She served as a strong advocate for neighborhoods and has been a key figure in crafting city ordinances addressing short-term rentals.
Councilman Coffin was elected to represent Ward 3 in 2011 and was reelected in 2015. Prior to his service on the City Council, he served two terms in the Nevada assembly beginning in 1982 and continued his work in the Nevada State Senate where he served until 2011. He has been instrumental in constructing city ordinances to address the legalization of marijuana and has been a supporter of the city’s Courtyard Homeless Resource Center.
In addition, Mayor Pro Tem Tarkanian welcomed representatives from the Clark County Regional Flood Control District to remind the community about the dangers of flash flood season in Las Vegas.
Councilman Stavros S. Anthony recognized the efforts of the Nation of Patriots, a nonprofit organization that supports veterans and their families. The group hosts the national Patriot Tour every summer and it is scheduled to make a stop in Las Vegas July 2 – 4.
