Climate change in Southeast Asia has been becoming a threat to agricultural production, food security, ecological stability, and sustainable development. Realizing the ongoing climate change issues, ASEAN Member States (AMS) together with international and national research agencies, and the private sector further continue working hand-in-hand to promote Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) practices to increase the resilience of the agriculture sector to the changing climate. From this background, the ASEAN Climate Resilience Network (ASEAN-CRN) Workshop on Promoting CSA Practices was held from 27-28 October 2015 at the Sheraton Hotel in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The two-day workshop served as way forward to promote the prioritized best CSA practices among AMS.
The workshop is led by the Thailand Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives (MOAC) through its Department of Agriculture (DOA) in its capacity as the current chair of the ASEAN-CRN, with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) of Vietnam as host. The German-ASEAN Programme on Response to Climate Change (GAP-CC) – implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in cooperation with the ASEAN Secretariat, provided support for this event, along with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations.

The Government of Azerbaijan and United Nations launched the formulation of the joint strategic partnership framework for the next five years.
The Ministry of Economy and Industry hosted the launch of the joint consultation process, which brought together senior government officials, development partners, representatives from the private sector and civil society to identify the broad priority areas for the cooperation between the UN system and the Government. The prospective collaboration framework will be aligned with the national priorities that are articulated in ‘Azerbaijan: Vision 2020’ development concept, which builds on the country’s latest socio-economic achievements and provides a framework for its transition from a traditional economy to a knowledge-based, competitive and diversified economy.
The new strategy will support the agreed international goals and Post-2015 Development Agenda, a new framework for sustainable development, reaffirming the mutual commitment of the Government of Azerbaijan and United Nations to further deepen partnership and continue working in a concerted and effective manner. It will constitute a robust mechanism to foster coherence, relevance, effectiveness and efficiency within the UN system, and will give a significant attention to achieving results, with a focus on strengthening national Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) capacity and deepening the integration of M&E into national development planning process.
On behalf of the Government of Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Economy and Industry will further co-lead the process of the preparation of the next partnership strategy until the end of August together with the United Nations and in consultation with all government and international partners. The strategic directions and expected results of the next partnership framework will be validated tentatively by end-September and endorsed by the Government by December 2014.

Solar Design Studio recently embarked on an exciting project for a client in Mission Hills, KS. If you’re not familiar with the area, it’s a high-end neighborhood filled with large, stately homes - all of which tend to be built and outfitted with top of the line materials and finishes. This project was the first solar installation in the area, and as you may imagine, the neighborhood is quite particular about preserving its long-standing aesthetic quality.
In consultation with our client, we chose to design and install a system comprised of CertainTeed’s Apollo® Tile II line. CertainTeed is no stranger to the roofing industry, with an over 100-year history of providing high-end roofing materials. Their venture into the solar space doesn’t compromise on their aesthetic standards. The Apollo® Tile II integrates top-tier solar function, durability, and water and wind resistance.
“The Apollo® Tile II system is the pinnacle of roof-integrated energy production, using high-efficiency monocrystalline silicon solar cells to capture the most energy per square foot of any solar tile,” CertainTeed writes. “Apollo Tile II also functions as your roof, generating clean power while blending seamlessly into the surrounding tile and protecting your home from water intrusion.”
The tile is designed specifically to provide visual continuity with existing concrete roof tiles, complete with custom-colored frames that can match any tile color. They are lightweight, durable, wind resistant, and watertight. And with a power rating of 60 watts per tile, they provide maximum power and aesthetics. Our residential installation in Mission Hills has a total system size of 11.09 kW and includes the Tesla Powerwall for battery storage.
Residential Solar-Plus-Storage
No high-end solar system is truly complete without a battery storage component. As we’ve previously written in regard to Solar-Plus-Storage systems, for consumers “considering the return on their investment in solar technology, battery storage makes strong financial sense.” The ability to produce and store power liberates residential solar adopters from the increasing fees and rates implemented by utility companies.

Hartford, CT. Senate Republican Leader Len Fasano (R-North Haven) talked with the press today regarding a Department of Transportation internal memo that contains an alarming assessment of Gov. Ned Lamont’s plans concerning transportation funding. The memo, which was obtained by the Senate Republican Office after repeated requests, addresses the impact of Gov. Lamont eliminating $250 million in transportation investments. This funding was authorized by the biennium bipartisan budget which included a portion of the Republican “Prioritize Progress” policy to authorize this investment. The memo concludes that eliminating this funding will severely constrict needed infrastructure investments across the state and allow roads and bridges to deteriorate. March 28, 2019. Ms. Clydene Neal is in her first year of teaching seventh grade English Language Arts at East Junior High School, but she has served in Fayette County Public Schools for several years. She holds a Bachelor of Science Elementary Education from Tennessee State University and a Master of Education from Bethel College. She has a son and is raising a seven year old granddaughter. Her father, her two sisters, and her brother are all a blessed part of her life as well.
Ms. Neal says, “I choose this career because of my fourth grade teacher, Mrs. Odelia Jones. She was my inspiration. Mrs. Jones treated her students with respect, care, and love. She made sure that all students were engaged in learning and she also took time with each student no matter what the situation or who the student was. She never frowned upon the students because of who they were or were not. With what Mrs. Jones did for me and how she made me feel as a student, I wanted to be that teacher as well to make my students feel the same; no big I’s and no little you’s. My favorite thing about teaching is learning the students’ personalities.”
Climate change in Southeast Asia has been becoming a threat to agricultural production, food security, ecological stability, and sustainable development. Realizing the ongoing climate change issues, ASEAN Member States (AMS) together with international and national research agencies, and the private sector further continue working hand-in-hand to promote Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) practices to increase the resilience of the agriculture sector to the changing climate. From this background, the ASEAN Climate Resilience Network (ASEAN-CRN) Workshop on Promoting CSA Practices was held from 27-28 October 2015 at the Sheraton Hotel in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The two-day workshop served as way forward to promote the prioritized best CSA practices among AMS.
The workshop is led by the Thailand Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives (MOAC) through its Department of Agriculture (DOA) in its capacity as the current chair of the ASEAN-CRN, with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) of Vietnam as host. The German-ASEAN Programme on Response to Climate Change (GAP-CC) – implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in cooperation with the ASEAN Secretariat, provided support for this event, along with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations.

Every Mind Matters: The Many Dimensions of Mental Illness
The Hill brings together lawmakers, mental health experts, and advocates to discuss these questions and more and explore why prioritizing mental health is intrinsically linked to good health overall.
The United States is facing an unprecedented mental health crisis as two in five American adults reported experiencing symptoms of anxiety and depression in 2021. Fortunately, the country has witnessed a positive sea change in recognizing the importance of mental health and self-care in recent years, but significant work still remains to create a system that recognizes the nuances and needs of those with mental illness.
Schizophrenia, major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disease, and post-traumatic stress disorder are just some of the many conditions affecting the 1 in 20 Americans experiencing serious mental illness today. The generalization of these disorders extends beyond everyday vernacular as one-size-fits-all policies, drugs and treatments continue to fail patients. Even when services are available, barriers like cost, cultural bias, and inconvenience often prevent people from accessing the care they need.
How can we break down the stigma associated with mental illness? How can we build a comprehensive care system to support all individuals affected by it?

Hartford, CT. Senate Republican Leader Len Fasano (R-North Haven) talked with the press today regarding a Department of Transportation internal memo that contains an alarming assessment of Gov. Ned Lamont’s plans concerning transportation funding. The memo, which was obtained by the Senate Republican Office after repeated requests, addresses the impact of Gov. Lamont eliminating $250 million in transportation investments. This funding was authorized by the biennium bipartisan budget which included a portion of the Republican “Prioritize Progress” policy to authorize this investment. The memo concludes that eliminating this funding will severely constrict needed infrastructure investments across the state and allow roads and bridges to deteriorate. March 28, 2019. The Government of Punjab prioritizes the welfare of the society and their primary focus is on the upliftment of the female population. Towards the fulfillment of this purpose - free bicycles have been distributed under the ‘Mai Bhago Vidya’ Scheme to underprivileged girls. The Punjab Government has so far provided 4,07,713 free bicycles under Mai Bhago Vidya Scheme to girl students studying in Government schools. Mai Bhago Vidya Scheme was launched in the year 2011-12 with an ambitious aim to encourage the girl child to complete the school education. The scheme gets its inspiration from the legendry woman from the Sikh history who became an inspiring figure for the great ‘40 Muktas’. She is known as a symbol of power and faith.
The Government of Azerbaijan and United Nations launched the formulation of the joint strategic partnership framework for the next five years.
The Ministry of Economy and Industry hosted the launch of the joint consultation process, which brought together senior government officials, development partners, representatives from the private sector and civil society to identify the broad priority areas for the cooperation between the UN system and the Government. The prospective collaboration framework will be aligned with the national priorities that are articulated in ‘Azerbaijan: Vision 2020’ development concept, which builds on the country’s latest socio-economic achievements and provides a framework for its transition from a traditional economy to a knowledge-based, competitive and diversified economy.
The new strategy will support the agreed international goals and Post-2015 Development Agenda, a new framework for sustainable development, reaffirming the mutual commitment of the Government of Azerbaijan and United Nations to further deepen partnership and continue working in a concerted and effective manner. It will constitute a robust mechanism to foster coherence, relevance, effectiveness and efficiency within the UN system, and will give a significant attention to achieving results, with a focus on strengthening national Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) capacity and deepening the integration of M&E into national development planning process.
On behalf of the Government of Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Economy and Industry will further co-lead the process of the preparation of the next partnership strategy until the end of August together with the United Nations and in consultation with all government and international partners. The strategic directions and expected results of the next partnership framework will be validated tentatively by end-September and endorsed by the Government by December 2014.
