Fayette County Public Schools is proud to recognize our school-level and district-level Teachers of the Year for the 2022-2023 school term. These honorees represent the many FCPS teachers who prioritize the needs of all children and who devote their professional lives to enriching the lives of students. When you see an educator, please be sure to congratulate them and thank them for their service.
Mrs. Mary-Aliene Flaniken is a veteran educator in Fayette County Public Schools, where she has taught for the past forty-two years. She teaches Music PreK through fifth grade at Buckley-Carpenter Elementary School. Mrs. Flaniken attended the University of Tennessee at Martin where she earned a Bachelor of Music in Music Education and an Endorsement of Elementary Education. She has been married for 42 years and has two daughters and four grandchildren. Besides music, she enjoys sewing and baking. She has lived in Fayette County all her life and this is home.
Mrs. Flaniken states, “I have always had a passion for and enjoyed working with children. That, combined with my deep love of music, created the perfect avenue for my music education career. It was a calling I followed to teach and expose students to the majesty of music. It is my ministry and mission to influence young minds with a wide range of music and music history. Music has played an important role in every human being's life, regardless of where they live. I am proud to have spent decades sharing and teaching students various cultures of music education.”
One of Mrs. Flaniken’s favorite things about teaching is being able to mentor and share in their growth experiences in music and life each year. Every class and young student is unique and talented in their own way. She views it as a challenge to help them identify and exploit their personal gifts and talents. One advantage she has, as an auxiliary teacher, is that she sees the children each year from preschool through fifth grade. Music is part of everyone's life and affects all aspects of their lives. When her students sing and aren't afraid to speak in front of the entire school plus parents and perform with such emotion, it is truly a thing of beauty for Mrs. Flaniken personally, spiritually, and emotionally. She loves her job of 42 years and loves each and every student who passes through her doors. She always states that her love for students is the reason she chose to teach.
“When I started teaching in Fayette County Schools, we did not have an elementary music program.” stated Mrs. Flaniken. “The superintendent at the time, Dr. Callicut, called me and discussed getting a program started. The new high school was being built so he wanted to start with the older students. In 1982, I started traveling and teaching music to fifth through eighth graders in all eight elementary schools. After many years of traveling, we now have a music teacher in each school. I'm proud and privileged to have had the administration have confidence in me to plan and establish the elementary music program in Fayette County Schools.”

the Junos 2024, Halifax, Mar 24th - Liberal Government run CBC/radio Canada and the Heritage Minister seemed more interested in politics than music awards ? This year's Juno Awards seemed non-inclusive when carried along mainly by members of minority groups ( which is OK but unfortunately in doing it this way they leave out the majority of Canadian Juno viewers ) ? The music awards program was interrupted at one point by political lobbying when a segment was dedicated to the LBGQ movement that including rallying speeches and a presentation of awards to leaders who appeared to attack their own home Province of Alberta in a hate speech ? And in yet another unprecedented move this year, a Canadian Juno award was awarded to a Punjabi citizen of India singing in his native language ? Overall it was obvious this year that most of the notable big name Canadian music artists as well as those from the host Maritime province were not in attendance ? And it would have been nice if some kind of small mention or tribute could have been given to this years Juno host City of Halifax and maybe for the enormous diversity, history and contribution East Coast music and Maritime artists have given to the Canadian music scene over the years ?

However, CBC appears to have a different attitude when it comes to supporting or televising many of the pro sporting events played by male gender athletes such as Grey Cup, the Stampede, FIFA, Copa America international men's soccer football and men's IIHF World Juniors and therefore a large Canadian fan base was unable to watch pro athletes like Acadia Axemen footballer Bailey Feltmate in the Grey Cup, or Nova Scotia's Jacob Shaffelburg in the Copa international Men's soccer tournament or Connor Badard in the IIHF World Men's Juniors hockey tournament ?

The prospective collaboration framework will be aligned with the national priorities that are articulated in ‘Azerbaijan: Vision 2020’ development concept, which builds on the country’s latest socio-economic achievements and provides a framework for its transition from a traditional economy to a knowledge-based, competitive and diversified economy.
The new strategy will support the agreed international goals and Post-2015 Development Agenda, a new framework for sustainable development, reaffirming the mutual commitment of the Government of Azerbaijan and United Nations to further deepen partnership and continue working in a concerted and effective manner. It will constitute a robust mechanism to foster coherence, relevance, effectiveness and efficiency within the UN system, and will give a significant attention to achieving results, with a focus on strengthening national Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) capacity and deepening the integration of M&E into national development planning process.
On behalf of the Government of Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Economy and Industry will further co-lead the process of the preparation of the next partnership strategy until the end of August together with the United Nations and in consultation with all government and international partners. The Government of Punjab prioritizes the welfare of the society and their primary focus is on the upliftment of the female population. Towards the fulfillment of this purpose - free bicycles have been distributed under the ‘Mai Bhago Vidya’ Scheme to underprivileged girls. The Punjab Government has so far provided 4,07,713 free bicycles under Mai Bhago Vidya Scheme to girl students studying in Government schools. Mai Bhago Vidya Scheme was launched in the year 2011-12 with an ambitious aim to encourage the girl child to complete the school education. The scheme gets its inspiration from the legendry woman from the Sikh history who became an inspiring figure for the great ‘40 Muktas’. She is known as a symbol of power and faith.
