Macro Mondays theme - Currency

Whenever we go on a trip we always try to find the machines to press a pattern on a penny for a little souvenir. We have quite a collection of them. Most of the time the pattern of the penny on the underside can't be seen anymore, but I found a couple in our stash that still had the pattern and its round shape. Used a mixture of natural and artificial light.

Happy Macro Monday and stay warm everyone!

THANKS FOR YOUR VISIT AND FAVES

Black-shouldered Kite, Elanus axillaris

A few weeks back I put up some shots from a nesting pair. They had set up a nest in the top of a dead tree, in the open. Most unusual.

A week or so later after some large storms, rain and wind, we checked and the nest was no longer in use. The adults were still around, but not attending the nest.

Conclusion: They lost the clutch.

Wrong! This morning we found them working with three very active young.

Herkimer County Historical Society is located in the 1884 Suiter Building, a historic home in Herkimer, Herkimer County, New York. It is a 2 1⁄2-story, wood frame structure with red pressed brick walls laid in black mortar built in 1884. It features a complex pitched roof of slate with a brick corbelled cornice and terra cotta ornament along the roof edge. There is also an octagonal peaked roof above the corner tower. Built originally as a private home, it was unfinished at the time of its builders death in 1925 and given to the Herkimer County Historical Society who occupied it in 1935.[2]

It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972

I reject secular and “pious” optimism alike, on account of both their naïveté and their superficiality, and because of their unavowed striving to make the future (and possibly God) fit into our limited visions, plans, and perceptions about what is good and right. Whereas Christian hope is openness and a readiness to search for meaning in what is to come, I sense at the back of this caricature a cockeyed assumption that we always know in advance, after all, what is best for us.

On my way to my client this morning, I drove along the Black Forest High Road B500. Although I was a little pressed for time again, I couldn't resist the quick stop and the photo... 😎👌

This is a pressed larkspur we saved from the family flowers at my father's funeral nearly 20 years ago. It has been in a flower press ever since and is still the most amazing blue

This is a close-up photo of the joining edge of two pressed board panels that was once covered by a board that was also stained brown. There is an optical illusion happening in the edge line that is associated with eye movement - highlights of light zipping from side to side.

Dried and pressed leaves for the Crazy Tuesday challenge, "looking back on 2023." I chose a theme from quite recently, "natural textures/structure." I've always been fascinated by leaves and the amazing structures and textures one sees there. This year I decided to try something new to me but certainly an ancient practice -- drying and pressing leaves. I was quite pleased with the results. Happy Crazy Tuesday!

Tower of Gold

is a dodecagonal military watchtower in Seville, southern Spain. It was erected by the Almohad Caliphate in order to control access to Seville via the Guadalquivir river.

Constructed in the first third of the 13th century, the tower served as a prison during the Middle Ages. Its name comes from the golden shine it projected on the river, due to its building materials (a mixture of mortar, lime and pressed hay).

The tower is divided into three levels, with the third and uppermost being circular in shape and added in 1769. The Torre de la Plata, an octagonal tower, is located nearby, and is believed to have been constructed during the same era.
