The weather was not as predicted with sleet, snow and temps mostly 32.
I managed 2 tiny strolls in the sun before and after the storm, but did have to stay in the camper for over a day.
I was happy to see many beautiful nature views with some Autumn colors. The Washington pass was especially spectacular with fresh snow, luckily the road was dry and safe.
Weather forecast (when getting gas) was not in our favor . We had to cut the trip short.
I am happy we got out and had an adventure.

The weather forecasters are predicting that we might get some winter weather in the next few days, so far we have got off relatively lightly . I doubt however it will be as cold as Arctic Norway this was taken around lunchtime in December and whilst there was no sunlight, the snow does make it appear brighter then I was anticipating . The light has an unusual blueish tone through the short Arctic day .

The groundhog predicted an early spring here in Ottawa. Right now we’re being hit by another big snowstorm and I’m not very optimistic about the prediction. I haven’t been able to take many photos with the frigid temps and cold this winter so I’ll be digging into my older files for a while.
Here’s hoping this little gosling will bring some luck and is taking his first tentative step forward into spring!
Have a great weekend Flickr friends. Tina and the Puglets xo
I would like to thank all of you that have taken the time to view and comment on my photos, it is very much appreciated.

We are off on a birding trip to British Columbia! I won’t have much time to enjoy all your new photos until our return in mid-June. The trip couldn’t have come at a better time. A microburst storm went through our area in Saturday and we, along with most of the city and across the river in Quebec, have been without power since 15:45, May 21. Internet connection almost non-existent. So much damage that the hydro company cannot predict when repairs will be complete. The airport is mostly operational, thank goodness :)

Well it certainly took a little longer than the predicted 5hr journey time to get there. Nine hours with only one stop for coffee and recharge the battery for my phone.
Two bad accidents on the A19 and the M90 created tailbacks for over ten miles. On both occasions we stood still for over an hour.
So you can appreciate the delight the next morning, when we were treated to this beautiful sunrise behind the castle.
Named after it's Gaelic name, Dun Fhoithear, literally meaning "fort on the shelving slope"
As far as castles go, it's difficult to imagine a more remote and dramatic location than Dunnatar.
Perhaps with the most impenetrable position of all Scottish castles, this one sits on top of it's own cliff peninsular on the road to Aberdeen, defended on all sides by the forces of nature.
Dunnatar Castle also comes with a good dose of dastardly history with an intrepid mix of torching, smuggling and pillaging.
Add to this some seriously stunning scenery and vistas to rival the best.
There are 50metre high cliffs on three sides of the site. While those are pounded by the North Sea, the fourth is joined to the land. This section was once a peninsular, but it's access was destroyed in favour of a cliff pathway. As a result you can only reach Dunnatar via a narrow, twisting route that ends in a tunnel, making it one of the most difficult Scottish castles to get into.
About as close as I could want to be to this amazing Red Kite, I heard it calling from a distance over the pine trees and knew it was heading my direction, never could have predicted it would get this close and I would have difficulty getting it all in frame, it seemed to hover or a second as it assessed me with this stare, or maybe it just wanted to know what lens I had : )
Strong winds and rain predicted for today and this evening, so Marnie and I had a good walk this morning. Here's my goodbye to 2024.
To be honest, I'm hoping the weather will be bad enough this evening to put off lots of the fireworks, as they really do cause Marnie a lot of trauma, and therefore, me too !
Whatever the weather, have a good night and an even better 2025 my Flickr friends !
Thanks for all your support in 2024 -- so appreciated !

A migratory bird that is famous for appearing just before the start of the rainy season. In the countryside, people still predict rains by its sightings. It migrates all the way to Africa and comes back to India just in time for the rains and of course, the breeding season.
This is a brood parasite and lays its eggs in other birds nests. It would eat one of the hosts eggs and drop its own in them. This bird prefers Bulbuls, both Red Vented and White throated, tailorbird etc.. for hosts. The area I visited y'day had maybe 3-4 of these cuckoos and the place was quite active with small birds that are perfect for these Cuckoo's to lay their eggs. They flew around slowly picking up food from various bushes and surveyed the area. The bulbuls sighted them and tried to chase these cuckoos away with limited success.
Thanks in advance for your views and feedback. Much appreciated.

“If the oak is before the ash,
Then we’ll only get a splash,
“If the ash is before the oak,
Then we’re sure to get a soak”.
This West Country, (UK), rhyme, indicates that the tree that gets it’s leaves first, predicts either a dry or wet summer.
The ash trees in this photo were just beginning to come into leaf on 22nd of April, while the oak tree in the background already had a good covering of leaves. The oaks are usually one of the last trees to get their new leaves, this year they were very early. It remains to be seen how accurate the rhyme proves to be in predicting the summer weather!

I always enjoy seeing impaka. They are pretty common throughout the Kruger Park, but the lovely thing is that they are very elegant and because you see quite a few of them you have a few chances to get a better shot. Also they can be quite close at times and in large groups, so you can try to find one that is looking in the right direction. It is difficult to pick where to look sometimes as it is hard to predict their behaviour!
You can predict exactly when the Robin will have it's main feed. During the morning and afternoon it skirts the periphery of the five feeding area's in our garden, picking off the odd seed or nuts dropped by the other bird, but just as the Witching Hour starts they will appear, one at a time and feed for a couple of minutes facing into the setting sun.
And the Sandhill Crane is out of here! This is one of the takeoffs from Creamers Field in Fairbanks, Alaska during the August Crane Festival as the Sandhill Cranes are migrating south for the winter. I was able to predict the takeoffs much better as I now understand the behavior that indicates they're ready to take flight. They have a particular lean they do when they're telling their mates that they're ready to go. When I see them do this it's usually within seconds that they run forward and take to the sky.

The weather forecast predicted a sea of fog in the morning, with a ceiling of 600 meters. I set off for the Belchen – a Jura hill offering views into the Swiss Plateau. However, I had bad luck with the weather. The wind was incredibly strong. Blurs of clouds raced past me as I reached the summit at 5 a.m. I unpacked my Shen Hao 6x17 cm camera. I had to hold the tripod steady to keep it from toppling over in the wind. To make matters worse, the light meter refused to work. But luckily, I had an app on my phone. You can see the result here.

Well, I hope there will be enough to take some nice shot.
I seem to recognize your face
Haunting familiar, yet I can't seem to place it
Cannot find the candle of thought to light your name
Lifetimes are catching up with me
All these changes taking place
I wish I'd seen the place
But no one's ever taken me
Hearts and thoughts they fade, fade away
Hearts and thoughts they fade, fade away
I swear I recognize your breath
Memories, like fingerprints, are slowly raising
Me you wouldn't recall for I'm not my former
It's hard when you're stuck upon the shelf
I changed by not changing at all
Small town predicts my fate
Perhaps that's what no one wants to see
I just want to scream, "Hello
My god, its been so long, never dreamed you'd return
But now here you are and here I am"
Hearts and thoughts they fade away

The Indian eagle-owl, also called the rock eagle-owl or Bengal eagle-owl (Bubo bengalensis), is a species of large horned owl restricted to the Indian Subcontinent. They were earlier treated as a subspecies of the Eurasian eagle-owl. They are found in hilly and rocky scrub forests, and are usually seen in pairs. They have a deep resonant booming call that may be heard at dawn and dusk. They are typically large owls, and have "tufts" on their heads. They are splashed with brown and grey, and have a white throat patch with black small stripes.
This large owl with the distinctive face, large forward-facing eyes, horns and deep resonant call is associated with a number of superstitions. Like many other large owls, these are considered birds of ill omen. Their deep haunting calls if delivered from atop a house are considered to forebode the death of an occupant. A number of rituals involving the capture and killing of these birds have been recorded. Salim Ali notes a wide range of superstitions related to them but notes two as being particularly widespread. One is that if the bird is starved for a few days and beaten, it would speak like a human, predicting the future of the tormentor or bringing them wealth while the other involves the killing of the bird to find a lucky bone that moved against the current like a snake when dropped into a stream.Belief in these superstitions has led to the persecution of the species in many areas by tribal hunters. The capture of these birds is illegal under Indian law but an underground market continues to drive poaching.

Whilst I was here taking photographs my sister and mum were at the visitor centre in Lulworth and when we later met up they told me a few geology facts. The archway would have originally been a cave that was eroded away over time. Geologists predict that over time, the roof of Durdle Door will be eroded away, leaving just a stack. There are several other limestone stacks along the coast. Although considering that Durdle Door was formed about 140 million years ago I'm guessing that neither us or any near decedents will ever see this.
It makes you realise that we are only here for the shortest blip and for most of the time this beach has been on the earth it hasn't seen humans.....
The only sure way to safely predict what will happen in the future is to travel through time the slow way and observe what happens.
The phrase ‘only time will tell’ means we won’t know what will happen until it does. A case of stating the obvious.

As predicted by this years "Finch Forecast" there's been a relatively healthy influx of Evening Grosbeaks into Northeast Ohio. I say "relatively" because the population of these beautiful birds has been declining in recent years thought to be a result of the destruction of large areas of their boreal breeding grounds. Let's hope this can be addressed to help keep the numbers from decreasing. A huge thanks to one of Cuyahoga County's most talented birders who discovered this lovely finch.

They're predicting 71 degrees for Dec. 24. Santa will be getting pretty hot in that red velvet suit.
with a predicted 18 to 24 inches of snow hitting this week in North Dakota, it's nice to see some positive signs of spring...these flowers will get buried, but will survive, with the extra moisture, hopefully they will really take off and bloom more.
As predicted a CME (coronal mass ejection) sparked a strong G3 class geomagnetic storm yesterday. Thankfully it cleared after midnight and I was able to witness some very colourful displays, even seeing red rather than just what the camera picked up. The storm is ongoing with another possible impact to come. From Space Weather:
"The lights spread across multiple US states including Oregon, Minnesota, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Idaho, Montana, New Jersey and North Dakota. At maximum, the lights descended as far south as Colorado."

After a day full of heavy raining, the meteorologist predicted some clear spells for the evening. So I made myself on the way to this place at lake Zurich. Weather was still not very promising, but at the time of sunset, the sun produced some nice colors on the sky...
