One of the more frequent and popular geysers in Yellowstone's Upper Geyser Basin. Beehive has predictable eruptions every 11 to 14 hrs, which last for ~ 5 minutes and can be heard a quarter mile away. Beehive is one of the tallest geysers in Yellowstone. Its fine, veil-like plume has been measured to 218 feet. Beehive is within view of iconic Old Faithful geyser.

If I lived closer to Yellowstone I'd become a geyser groupie trying to see as many as I can. They are amazing.

Distinctive honeyeater with clear, large, white cheek patches. Underparts white with black streaking. Back, wings, and head black with yellow panels on tail and wings. Distinguished from similar New Holland Honeyeater by presence of one large white patch on side of face rather than two smaller ones. Endemic to eastern and southwestern Australia; usually found in habitats where heath is present. (eBird)

These wonderful honeyeaters move with all the predictability of a mosquito. Mostly head-first in the bottlebrush flowers, this one came up for air exactly twice before returning to a vague shape moving through the flowers. The one and only time we saw this particular honeyeater species.

A resident wader bird sighted through the year in fields, edges of waterbodies and in the countryside. They are one of the larger lapwings and a full adult is around 35 cms long. They are very easy to id and quite distinctive in plumage, color and patten of flight.
We refer to these as "alarm birds" since they are scream out loud when we get closer to other birds during photography alerting them often. The birds are also a common prey of raptors since they are easy to target and have a predictable flight pattern. They nest on the ground in the fields and the chicks are often targes of Black Kites, Foxes, dogs and even raptors. But they do breed in large numbers and hence sighting a chick isn't hard.

We just had a Pacific storm roll through with lots of rain and wind. This is the morning after the storm. Luckily it was also the last of the King Tide days, so we scurried over to the coast to see these big breaking waves at high tide.
King tides are the highest tides. They are naturally occurring, predictable events.
Tides are driven by the relative positions of the Earth, Sun, Moon, land formations, and relative location on Earth. In the lunar month, the highest tides occur roughly every 14 days, at the new and full moons, when the gravitational pull of the Moon and the Sun are in alignment. These highest tides in the lunar cycle are called spring tides.
The king tides occur when the Earth, Moon and Sun are aligned at perigee and perihelion, resulting in the largest tidal range seen over the course of a year. So, tides are enhanced when the Earth is closest to the Sun around January of each year. They are reduced when it is furthest from the Sun, around July.

★ Food for thought :
The bee is fast becoming an endangered species in many parts of the world. In France, the newly arrived Asian hornet is just another nail in the coffin. Without the bee, we too could well become an endangered species! :-(( - Love thy neighbour and thy bee however small and insignificant it may appear to be.

I'll return to love and risk it all
Per regalarti un mondo
And I'll return to love and resterò
Per costruire un sogno

Welcome to Poppyday.
Most people, at least most of those I know, strive for a high degree of order, structure and predictability in their lives. But maintaining this state required an incredible amount of energy. Because basically we are constantly fighting against a law of nature, which always strives in the direction of the greatest possible disorder (entropy). This force has basically created (or at least made possible) everything that exists in the universe over millions of years.
This disorder, which we also like to call chaos, causes so many random events and combinations that a constant development process can unfold. Any creative process requires a minimum of this chaos.
This is not to say, of course, that the order is fundamentally opposed. As with almost everything, it's all about finding the right balance.
This photo here, of a bird vetch (at least I think it is one) huddled in a beautifully textured field of barley and poppies, is meant to symbolize that. The order is gone. But do I still see the picture as interesting without those purple flowers?
With that in mind, I invite you to allow a healthy dose of chaos into your life this week. Everyone decides for themselves what level is healthy. But I can assure you that you will notice this quite quickly once this point has been passed.

Spring in New England is anything but predictable. On this, the 4th of May, the weather was overcast, calm and heavy with humidity, with high temperatures barely cresting above 50° F. It was still mud-season, New England's fifth season of the year.
The following day, was windy, but clear, crisp, and highs in the 70s. Completely different photographic opportunities between the two days.
Here, I tried to capture an image of a lesser known (privately owned) lighthouse in Maine. Hendricks Head Light is in pristine condition, owing to the private ownership, but difficult to see from the landside. Though this shot is mid-afternoon in early May, you could easily mistake it for late afternoon in autumn.

Day two of school. We are falling back into the routine and activities are all starting up. I don't enjoy the lack of time together but I do love knowing my schedule and the predictability of my weeks. That being said...I see them here and I already miss the murmur of voices downstairs while I work up, the constant request for snacks, the sound of the door as they go in and out to play, and all the adventures and summer bucket list items we'd do.
Watch sunset was a bucket list item and we did it over and over. Island Harbour was our favourite. Hot chocolate for the girls and tea for me while sitting on the veranda, watching the beautiful glow of the sun, and listening to the sounds of the ocean. That's the summer 2021 memory I'm holding on to.
Loved this beautiful waterfall in eastern France in the Jura mountains, daytime long exposure using a ND filter. This spot can be crowded but there were no other people there that day I wish everyone a happy Thursday. it's starting to snow heavily here at the moment and the power will predictably be out in a few minutes.

In a world where the Speedmaster Professional is the predictable choice in the luxury chronograph line up, I set out on a quest to find something different. I consider this to be the classy Speedmaster automatic, minus the name at a similar price point. I narrowed my choices down to this and the Speedmaster 1957. I'm pretty pleased with this piece, loving the clean look.

Continuing to post some prairie dwelling critters.
Black-tailed Prairie Dogs have one of the most complex vocalizations/languages of any mammal.
Perhaps the most conspicuous prairie dog communication is the territorial call or "jump-yip" display. A prairie dog will stretch the length of its body vertically and throw its forefeet into the air while making a call. A jump-yip from one prairie dog may cause others nearby to do the same. One theory for this behavior is that the instigator of the jump-yip 'wave' uses the jump-yip to assess the vigilance or watchfulness of others in the colony - a longer jump-yip wave indicates watchful neighbors and leads to increased foraging by the instigator. Another theory is that the jump-yip may be sounding an "all clear" after a potential threat has moved on.
Photo note: The jump-yip lasts about a second or two, and it's not easily predictable. I've been trying to photograph it for years. The quality of this shot could be better, but the rarity of getting two prairie dogs performing it at once is worth posting.
A challenging bird to shoot in flight and this ones off my target list now for birds in flight. While the flight path is predictable, the bird is pretty fast and pretty small, so its hard to get into focus. Just found the right place to get the action and waited. I wasn't disappointed with several of them flying over the lake taking turns to catch flies hovering above.

UPDATE : 2.6.20.
Just to clarify ... I am NOT leaving : 0))
I would like to concentrate for a little while on my photography and take a small break from my poetry, which often seems to detract from my pictures. The poetry I will still write as it is cathartic for me and best way I know of expressing my emotions. I want to mix it up a little bit ... already my work is quite diverse; a mix of poems, art, videos and photography and now I am adding a little Haiku to the mix. I hope I continue to surprise you because I do not ever want to be thought of as predictable, because, for me, that means boring!
; 0) I may or may not, some time in the future, transfer my photography to another account and run both accounts alongside each other and in doing this I hope that there will always be something of interest to everybody. I would welcome more comments on my photography so that I might improve. I do not mind the critique. If you think my picture is pants, please say so! ; 0))) But really, if you have any helpful photographic tips to impart to me, I would be most grateful. I really see my camera as an extension of myself and I view the world through the eyes of an artist, so I hope I am half way there and can combine my creativity with acquiring new skills in photography. Looking back over the past five years in my stream I am very surprised how far I have come. I used to think I only put my best pictures on, but now I know a bit about editing and cropping etc., none of which I knew about at the start, I can look at my old work with fresh eyes and know that I have the knowledge now to improve on those images. It is very exciting for me and I feel that I can continue on this platform for a long time to come if I can keep coming up with new ways of doing things. Thank you for your support. The feedback and support and acceptance I received on this page alone has already transformed my thinking and lifted me out of the doldrums : 0))
Have a happy June everyone <3
The weather in the mountains is as predictable as one may expect. One minute you’re chasing rays of light, the next you’re in a tunnel of cloud, unable to see more than a few feet in front of you. In between these levels of light you get the periodic window into a valley, or down the road, glimpses of what’s going on all around you at any given moment, this is one of those glimpses just beyond. Clouds swirling and toiling all around, leaving you one tiny valley, creating a perfect framing device on a dreary October day.

This fox grew up next door. Its daily path became predictable. We were hidden in the garage to get a closeup and she heard us breathing, stopped, and looked over. Then we snapped this shot. This turned out to be about the last time she appeared in daylight, hunting in nighttime now nightly.

So mixing it up because, well, two landscapes in a row is just a bit too predictable now isn’t it.

How high can the Old Faithful geyser reach?
90-184 feet
However, it does erupt more frequently than any other of the large geysers. An Old Faithful eruption lasts 1.5 to 5 minutes and reaches a height of 90-184 feet (27-55 m). The period of time between Old Faithful's eruptions ranges from 35 to 120 minutes, though the average is 92 minutes. Old Faithful Geyser expels 3,700 to 8,400 gallons of water each time it erupts
While the geyser is highly predictable – it has erupted every 44 to 125 minutes since 2000 – a new climate assessment and a recent study have revealed that rising temperatures, reduced snowfall and increased rain threaten to shut Old Faithful off completely by the end of the century.

I'm Watching You
~Jay L. Morris~
Every morning I wake to inspect
the Sun come rising in the East.
To make doubly certain that it is
the same as the Sun sunk in the West.
A foolish notion this spherical world
same horizons every day.
Predictable as a pendulum and
moving in fits and spurts.
A world where people are born
only to die again.
Where their grandest achievement must be
not to muck things up.
Yet, of course, they do.
In grand style at that.
Most with no purpose greater
than the average alley cat.
Some, though, have nobler ideals.
See the wonder, as I, in the sunrise, sunsets.
they intuitively know their places
in relation to all creation.
Those are the ones to watch for.

Quote Of The Day:
"Nations crumble from within when the citizenry asks of government those things which the citizenry might better provide for itself. ... [I] hope we have once again reminded people that man is not free unless government is limited. There's a clear cause and effect here that is as neat and predictable as a law of physics: As government expands, liberty contracts." (Ronald Reagan)
THE ANIMAL CRUSADE
One day all the sties and burrows opened
And out came the cave-bear the mammoth the seafaring
cormorant, that poetic diving bird, the white-headed vulture
the rock-goat from the mountains, the sea unicorn
You could see by their snouts that they meant business
You could hear by their flapping wings and their burr
They had thrown off their humility, cast down their yoke
once imposed by Adam’s secretive hero
the one with the garden
They were, to cut a long story short, fed up
And the morals of the shotgun had been cast off
the flayed skin of flight had faded
The viper walked tall and the swine wore polaroid glasses
that lent him pleasant looks. The beavers
gnawed down telegraph poles and so cut off any form of communication
Predictably enough, the lion led the way black black
as black gold and gold-coloured as deep black
It was a magnificent procession, blinding to the eye
At the back the unicorn reported as missing, the dodo the passenger pigeon
as well as various viruses and the elated spermatozoids
So the holy animals
travelled the holy world
And do you know how or why?
Oh no, they just went travelling, they didn’t have a flag!
Sometimes ripped up laws out of sheer happiness
or bled a city dry
Now and then trampled on a Jesus
or struck down a prophet or a princess
They were beginning to get tired
Haste no longer necessary
The one day’s deities left the fire
H.H. ter Balkt
Translation: Willem Groenewegen
I'm not sure how it got its name, but the fire started in the Gore Range in Routt National Forest on Sunday, June 20th, and has expanded to 1025 acres. This pic taken 8:13 p.m. June 22, 2021 from one of our pastures as the setting sun magnifies the plumes of smoke clouds.
I estimate the fire to be 20 air miles north of us. It is feeding on pines and lodgepole beetle kill. Fortunately, wind is blowing all that smoke east. Fires in the arid American west are a natural and predictable event in summer. This one likely caused by lightning, but they are still investigating. Another, larger fire nearly 4000 acres, the Sylvan Fire, is burning south of us maybe 50 air miles away. It has been confirmed it was started by lightning. Today might be rough as there are red flag warnings (wind), but the rest of the week promises cool and rainy weather.
SOUTH
In the rarefied air of an afternoon at the end of June, I thought that - perhaps - this image could represent our idea of "the south". An ancient, tired beauty, a nobility that is never predictable and quite decayed; and great resources, which could become reality, added power...

Clover, also called Trefoil, is part of the pea family. I do enjoy watching the bees dance over the tops of the flowers...unless the clover is in my garden. Then I gently, but firmly, remove as much of the plant as I can. Of course, no matter how many clover plants I remove, they will return along with the dandelions. At least some things in life are predictable.
