At some point probably in the 80s or 90s someone in Cheyenne County, Kansas put up maybe 100 or so signs of various landmarks, historical sites, and various other signs marking points of interest. They also created a driving tour route that takes you all over the county.
I did the tour a few years ago and have visited a number of times since. Each time I drop by a few sites, but this time I wanted to find not just the three-state markers (there's two - it's a long story, I guess) - I've been to that a couple times before.
But I always remember coming across a sign in Kansas that directs you to the "3 state marker". My memory of it was foggy, but I eventually found it.
I have a thing for hand-painted signs. All of these signs in Cheyenne County are hand-painted typically with just words. I'm glad I found it and glad I shot this one single photo of it. Not sure why I didn't take more, but that was apparently a thing I was doing this past summer.

In a blur of brilliant blue, the kingfisher dives with flawless accuracy, slicing through the air toward the shimmering water below. In a single decisive moment, it emerges victorious—beak clenched around a wriggling fish.
Small, Green Violetear Hummingbird prepares to connect with this rather large trumpet-shaped flower. A fraction of a second later, it had its head and bill totally within the tube of the bloom.

Either this tern is a very great hunter or this marsh is full of fish. I watched this guy hunting over the water for only about ten minutes. He dove twice, both times catching a fish. They'll glide high over the water before catching a glimpse of something. They're hover for a second and then dive head first into the water making quite a noisy splash!

Precision Scheduled Railroading is in full effect throughout the Roseville Service Unit. In order to better the company's operating ratio, Union Pacific elected to run fewer & longer trains. This business model cuts down on costs associated with rail transport, such as crew salary and fuel consumption.
After departing Roseville at over 10,000' in length, the MWCEU of September 6th was making good time up the (flat) Valley Subdivision to Redding. At Redding, 22 cars would be set out, causing a nearly hour delay. By the time the train was headed north again, the late summer evening was drawing to a close.
In this shot, the sound of a gentle summer breeze is broken by the echoing rumble of a freight train working northbound through the Sacramento River Canyon. UP 1983, the Western Pacific Heritage Unit, catches the last little bit of daylight as it leads a 111-car manifest through Vollmer's Delta.

Conservation status: Green
Stonechats are robin sized birds. Males have striking black heads with white around the side of their neck, orange-red breasts and a mottled brown back. Females lack the male's black head, but have brown backs and an orange tinge to their chests. Birds are frequently seen flicking their wings while perched, often doing so on the tops of low bushes. As its name suggests, birds utter a sharp loud call that sound like two stones being tapped together. They breed in western and southern parts of the UK, but disperse more widely in winter.

. . . For my first "photo walk"after having ankle replacement surgery 5 weeks ago, I choose to walk a whole 30 feet into the shade of the Holiday Inn in Traverse City, and watch the incredible Blue Angels do their stuff! Wow!
My kind of photo walk for now, hopefully off crutches in a few weeks! Not sure how I got burnt to a crisp sitting in the 96 degree shade, I blame the water reflection!

Heard about this 280 going through Hastings just as I was hitting the interstate from Madison to Wausau. After I got the gears turning and remembered that I haven't seen a CP 60M leading a road train for a long time, I decided to take the left turn at Portage and try my luck for this guy on the south end of the River Sub. Made it to Dakota with about 20 min to spare. One and done for me, but this is my first good wedge of a CP 60M since they came out.
