Is it just me, or does it feel like Flickr has lost a lot of traffic over the last few months. I can't tell if there is a bug where comments show up weeks late or if its really just dying off?
A heron arcs through the air above rippling water, wings extended in a perfect sweep of symmetry. The feathers catch the muted light, each one a brushstroke of gray and bronze. Beneath it, the surface of the water shimmers with texture a mosaic of reflected sky and movement. The bird’s yellow legs trail behind like punctuation marks, crisp against the soft palette of the scene.
This image captures the essence of flight not as chaos, but as design. Every angle, every curve, every motion feels intentional. The heron’s body twists slightly, revealing the aerodynamic precision that defines its species a living blueprint of balance and grace. The background, rendered in subdued tones, isolates the subject so completely that the viewer can almost feel the air pressure beneath its wings.
The theme here is “Precision in Motion.” It’s about the mathematics of flight the way instinct becomes geometry, and grace becomes physics. The edit leans into realism with restrained contrast, allowing the natural hues to speak for themselves. It’s a study in control and freedom, a moment where nature’s engineering meets artistry.

This snap was taken a few days ago when the Red Arrows were performing over the Solent, just before the start of an America’s Cup World Series practice day.
I had cycled the last few miles down to the coast in an effort to beat the traffic and was therefore a bit restricted in carrying capacity and weight. Unfortunately, before departing, when I grabbed my camera I didn’t think to change my usual wide angle lens for something a little more appropriate for a distant air display! As a consequence, this snap has been cropped down by a huge amount.
Well that’s my excuse anyway!
This is why I still go to airshows after all these years. There are few things as impressive as this kind of precision formation flying. You can wish for a better weather day or different winds but you still need to have great pilots and training to see a grouping like this. I don't even mind the featureless white cloudy background because this still reaches my on a beauty scale due to the sights and sounds of their performance.
This is literally in my back yard. I have to admit, it looks a tad bit more wild and untamed than it does in real life :)
I went looking for Black skimmers, yesterday morning. While I captured a few of the classic, in profile, skimming shots, this was my favorite of the morning. It shows the remarkable precision and accuracy of these birds as they feed. The sun was shining through the translucent beak making it appear to glow.
While I love my 5D Mk III (Child number four? Why yes, it is.), I'm thinking the 7D is going in for service and then being put back in action for those far away bird shots.

A brown pelican skims the surface of the water, wings stretched wide in effortless symmetry. The ripples below mirror its motion, each wave a faint echo of flight. There’s no splash, no sound only the quiet mastery of a creature perfectly attuned to its element.
This image captures the essence of precision and grace: the pelican’s flight reduced to geometry and instinct. It doesn’t fight the air or the sea; it reads them, becoming part of their rhythm. The muted palette of grays and blues turns the moment into meditation a study in balance between motion and stillness.

So named due to the requirement for precise focusing and control of depth of field to get this shot to work.
Shot using the Helios 44M...I'm not sure what the sea of tall yellow wildflowers were but the marshy fields were full of them.

The Roseate Spoonbill is one of the newest birds to join the Birdorable family. Here are some fun facts about this unique species.
1. The collective noun for spoonbills is bowl. Have you ever seen a bowl of Roseate Spoonbills?
2. Roseate Spoonbills get their pink color from their food! They feed on crustaceans who in turn have fed on algae.
3. In parts of their range, especially in Florida, Roseate Spoonbills are sometimes confused with another large pink wading bird: the flamingo.
4. There are six species of spoonbill in the world; the Roseate Spoonbill is the only one with pink plumage. Roseate Spoonbill
5. The Roseate Spoonbill is also the only spoonbill species found in the Americas.
6. The beaks of chick spoonbills are straight; the spoon-shape grows as the chick develops.
7. Spoonbills use their specialized bills to feed. They sweep their open bills through the water, and when a prey item like a fish or insect comes between the mandibles, the bill snaps shut.
8. The oldest wild Roseate Spoonbill was discovered in the Florida Keys in 2006. The bird had been banded in 1990, and was an amazing 16 years old. The previous known longevity record for the species was seven years.
9. Roseate Spoonbills are highly social. They feed with each other and with other wading birds. They also nest in colonies and fly in flocks.
Installation of 7 steel cables for a new wood chips conveyor system. Each cable was about 700 meters long. Flying at extremely low altitude and in real "slow motion" above a large industrial site requires maximim precision. Only most experienced pilots will be permitted to such a job. This mission was completed in 4 hours, a conventional intallation on the ground would have taken several days.

A breathtaking display of raw nature captured right before my lens: This Common Buzzard struck with absolute precision, seizing the pigeon mid-air before grounding with its catch in the high grass.
For a brief moment, it held its position, surveying the surroundings with an intense, unwavering glare. Sensing my presence, it decided not to linger—launching back into flight while taking its heavy prey along.
The moment the buzzard took off, the hidden tension in the canopy snapped: three other pigeons, which had been frozen in complete silence in the branches directly above, rocketed out of the tree to safety. A truly unforgettable encounter with local wildlife.

Ein spektakulärer Anblick direkt vor dem Kameraobjektiv: Dieser Mäusebussard hat die Taube blitzschnell im Flug erwischt und ist mit seiner Beute im Gras gelandet.
Einen kurzen Moment hielt er inne und sicherte die Umgebung mit durchdringendem Blick. Als er die Flucht antrat und samt Beute abhob, löste sich auch die Schockstarre in den Wipfeln: Drei weitere Tauben, die im Baum direkt darüber ausgeharrt hatten, schossen pfeilschnell davon. Natur pur in ihrer ganzen Dynamik.

Patrouille Suisse flying their routine at the RAF Cosford Airshow,to perfection, lucky to catch a good passing / crossover shot .. Great to see these Northrop F-5E Tiger II still flying. I believe they are in their last year 2023.
The Geico Skytypers perform at the Mid-Atlantic Air Museums's 27th Annual World War II Weekend in Reading, PA. The 11 man civilian air show squadron, based in Long Island, NY, is comprised of pilots who fly World War II-era SNJ-2 "Texan" aircraft. The demonstration features historical maneuvers taught to pilots during World War II and the Korean War. It was quite an impressive and entertaining performance to say the least.
This young male juvenile had been actively flying around lakes but appeared unable or willing to fish but came across a Dragonfly nymph for split minute before flying off again.

Great Deal of Planning , sync, co-ordination and Precision image capture of your friendly family in the lead window of a moving train from a lead window of train approaching from opposite direction. In fact, one photographer failed to make the precision shoot.
The fast moving train emerging out of an yet to be completed station was shot from another fast moving train. People you see in the front window are travelers enjoying the exiting city scape. Similarly we were viewing from the fast moving train from the opposite direction. Yet Another Hi tech marvel in Dubai.
