In God, Truth is one, but finite creatures know Truth as truths, and when scattered across the page the plurality of truths may seem to contradict each other. Antinomy is precisely going past this experience of contradictoriness to arrive at unity. “Antinomicalness does not say, ‘Either the one or the other is not true.’ It also does not say, ‘Neither the one nor the other is true.’ It only says, ‘Both the one and the other are true, but each in its own way. Reconciliation and unity are higher than rationality.’”

The Aqueduct of Segovia (or more precisely, the aqueduct bridge) is a Roman aqueduct and one of the most significant and best-preserved ancient monuments left on the Iberian Peninsula. It is located in Spain and is the foremost symbol of Segovia, as evidenced by its presence on the city's coat of arms.

This is precisely where the Rhone rises, which then flows through the Swiss Valais region, through the whole of France and finally into the Mediterranean.

Candid street photography from Glasgow, Scotland. Well it says 'Photo-Me' so I couldn't resist when I saw the woman wearing an orange dress with those orange seats. This is precisely the reason why I never put my camera away until I am actually sitting on the train - enjoy!

Seen in a shopping mall in Las Vegas. The image itself is precisely what the camera saw, including the internal framing....it is a view through an oddly shaped cutout in a second-story wall. The color was nearly what is seen here, but I amped it up just a little to get the contrast I wanted. In the end, for me it was all about the composition...

I opened this Flickr account in order to share some pictures I took during a trip around the world. It's precisely during this journey that I (re)discovered photography. And because storing thousands of images takes so much time, I kept on shooting in the meanwhile. That's why my gallery is now quite hybrid and is not really related with travel anymore. However, I want now to go back in time and post a little serie of pictures taken in Cambodia ...

Here is a crew of dancers. You probably seen them if you went there. The idea is that you can pay a little bit to take a picture of you with them. Because I am really not interested in having picture of myself, I because I found them really beautiful, I have to admit that I stole this one (and I am seriously ashamed).

What decided me to post this picture is probably it's boredom atmosphere : these guys are working a lot, but at this particular moment they are just waiting. I like the way the guy on the right hold his head, and the different directions of all the faces ...

"Listening and watching of a Great Grey Owl".

I watched this Great Grey Owl as it watched but more precisely listened for voles in the meadow.

She would scan and suddenly change her position as she obviously heard something from a completely different direction.

Here she is sitting seemingly wondering when the rain will stop.

The frozen surface of the large Arbersee lake radiates a quiet serenity. As if the world were holding its breath for a moment, thoughts realign and gain clarity. Such moments are rare, yet their power lies precisely in their fleeting nature: they bestow a profound peace and remind us how beneficial pausing can be.

A full moon is the lunar phase that occurs when the Moon is completely illuminated as seen from the Earth. This occurs when the moon is in opposition to the Sun (when it is on the opposite side of the Earth from the Sun; more precisely, when the ecliptic longitudes of the Sun and Moon differ by 180 degrees). This means that the hemisphere of the Moon that is facing the Earth (the near side) is almost fully illuminated by the Sun and appears round (while the far side is almost completely unilluminated).

Sculptures in the Friedrich-Engels-Platz residential complex in Brigittenau, the 20th district of Vienna, more precisely at Kapaunplatz. These municipality buildings, erected in the early 1930s, were supplemented by further apartment blocks in the 1950s. I moved into one of them, and my new address is at the back right. This shot was a total stoke of luck - I promise it's not a set-up. I never for one moment expected the paint mark on the wall to align precisely with the mouth of a bag seemingly being held open by a passer-by. But that's what I got in frame 4 of a 6-frame burst sequence.

So exegetically we may read the “darkness on the face of the deep” as that darkness from which at another moment Elohim differentiates the light: “God separated the light from the darkness” (1: 4). In other words the original dark is also original light, a depth that contains both darkness and light, or more precisely, transcends that distinction: it would be none other than the “luminous dark.” It is like a picture of the immensity of the universe—vast darkness indeed—through which ripple invisible waves of light-energy. Only with certain instruments, or within the galactic neighborhoods of stars, as with our sun, can the light be distinguished. But Genesis is a theopoetics, not an astrophysics, of light born from this dark.

The Sintra series will be extensive, wherefore here and there I'll post photos of a different nature to break up the monotony.

This picture is one of my first experiments on street photography with the 75 mm. The narrower angle is convenient, but it is harder to focus quickly and precisely; DOF at f/8 is nothing much. Framing can be difficult when pretty close to the subject, as was the case of this picture. I was thinking of stepping back a little when the lady showed up at the window. Needless to say, I had to press the shutter right there and then.

At the first stroke,

I felt like telling the world

to go straight to hell

at the second stroke,

the world crashed down

straight from my heaven

at the third stroke,

a realisation dawned on me

there is no Heaven nor hell

at the fourth stroke,

only a limbo remained

an outstretched bough

it will be 12:43,

a peace offering,

or a challenge

and 35 seconds precisely,

time is truth, purity,

and of necessity, a sanctuary.

There have been some recent comments on my photos which have gone over the mark, and upset someone very dear to me.

I kindly request that there be no more innuendo or 'slights' please.

This flickr photostream is for my dear friends, and especially for me to express my feelings regarding the world I see and live, an expression and avenue to escape my hourly pains of spinal degeneration, and for the love of nature...so I take a strong dislike to any snide remarks appearing here.

Thank you.

Goder is described in the sagas as the religious and political leader or chief of his district who was called godord (goðorð). In Iceland, every ninth farmer had a duty to accompany his property to the Althing if the estate demanded it, and whoever escaped had to pay the courtier's costs. At the parliament, the most important men met for a discussion and the parliament was the most important hub in Norse society. In addition to court proceedings and judging between right and wrong, the youth held competitions in sports and beer parties were held for friends and relatives, news was told and connections were made and alliances formed. Poets and storytellers contributed to the entertainment.

Goden was the chief of his district and those under him were his courtiers. The relationship between them was free. The magistrate promised good support and he in turn guaranteed his magistrates protection. If they did not agree, the magistrate could choose another good one. The area of goods, good words, was thus not precisely delimited. The good words were hereditary, but could also be sold.

A striped brush.

More precisely, it's a sonic toothbrush replaceable head, whose stripes race side-to-side at roughly 250 hertz, or 15,000 oscillations per minute, to do its plaque-busting task. (For comparison, the electricity from your outlet alternates at 50 or 60 Hz, depending on your country.)

The stripes are not all show and no go. The dye in the dark blue pair of bristles fade with use, giving a visual indication the brush head needs replacing.

I watched in sordid fascination as the man levered his car back and forward, trying to park it in precisely the spot he’d chosen, each clumsy movement reminiscent of the death throes of some large beast. We were at Chippenham Services, on the way home from the rugby international at Twickenham. Once he’d finally manoeuvred his steed exactly as planned, neither he nor his wife could get out of the car without having to hold in the doors carefully for fear of smashing them into those of the two they’d squeezed in between. The row behind was completely empty. Thirty spaces or more, with not a single vehicle, and no discernable disadvantage in pulling up in one of them, other than having to walk an additional four yards to get to the queue for McDonalds. And this was a young couple, neither of them blighted by any apparent mobility issues. They’d lost far more time with all of that elaborate back and forth, and then having to escape from the car like contestants on The Krypton Factor. Why on earth didn’t he park in one of the spaces in that huge empty row? Why had nobody else parked in that gloriously unsullied swathe?

It’s one of my prime sources of first world irritation. I’m the one who parks as far away as I can from the supermarket door, just to give myself the best chance of returning to my car to find it standing alone with at least one space on either side. And if I really must park next to another car, it will be a brand new Mercedes or BMW - something like that, where the owner is going to be particularly precious about their paintwork. Never a Citroen Picasso, or anything that has a sticker saying “Baby on Board.” And If I do emerge with my purchases to find my car has formed some kind of union with a new neighbour in an otherwise empty row of spaces, Captain Grumpy takes over. I mean, why park next to the one other car when there are twenty unused spaces on either side? Even when I write about this imaginary (but sometimes real) scenario, I can feel my heckles rising. Is it that humans want to bond, or do they just mostly follow each other in a trance-like form of psychological programming? Is my compulsion to go out of my way to keep my distance from everyone else just another sign that I’m a loner at heart? Probably.

I was making this point most forcibly as we parked at Morrison’s in Tavistock, having of course selected as isolated a parking space as I could find. Dave and Lee, having heard this all before, had stuffed their ears with cheese so as not to have to endure it again. “Don’t start him off again,” Dave sighed, as Lee banged his head on the tarmac to see if it would stop him hearing my tirade. “And then there’s George Ezra!” I continued with a non-sequitur so obscure that it even surprised me. “What about George Ezra?” came the response. “Well his songs are all the same. He does a high bit, and then he does a low bit, and then he does it all again!” Quite why I’d chosen a random celebrity songsmith to rant about next, not even I could tell you, but even the mere notion of someone unnecessarily parking alongside sets me off into a world of fury. Imagine if George parked next me in a huge empty row, wound down his window and started singing at me? And there’s another one. Other people’s music choices being played at me. I can’t stand that either. Not even when it’s bands that I like. Maybe I need to relocate to a Pacific atoll and live on coconuts and bananas. One with good sunsets of course. Some of us just aren’t cut out for the wider world. Dave did concede that I had a point about George Ezra.

It was a good job that we were going somewhere quiet and remote this morning; a forest where we could spread out and roam alone. A place which wasn’t feted as a togs’ hotspot. But we’d passed it as evening drew in on the way back from our outing the previous afternoon and immediately added it to the itinerary. We made it our first port of call the following morning, and after picking up our lunch without any parking related commotion at Morrison’s we pulled up here, piled out of the car and disappeared into the dark mist filled spruce columns.

And talking of oddballs and loners, there were one or two interesting characters lurking under the canopy. I’ll bet nobody’s brave enough to park right alongside this one when he takes the Land Rover into Widecombe on the Moor to stock up on fresh supplies of moss and woodlice. With his unicorn horn, he’s not going to be taking any nonsense from anyone is he?

He wasn’t the only oddball we found in the woods, so I may bring you back here for another story. Next time I promise not to rant about anything at all. But just in case you happen to parking in a supermarket in West Cornwall, and you notice a metallic blue Skoda Yeti sitting over there in the far corner on its own, please don’t feel the need to pull up alongside it if you don’t mind. You never know what kind of spleen venting monster you might set off when the owner returns. Especially if your surname is Ezra and you like a bit of a sing song now and again.

Piazza San Marco (St. Mark's Square) is so well known, you can either say too much or too little about it, but there is a reason why it is THE tourist draw in Venice, above all others. Here you can find all things Venice in one stop, which is precisely why it is so crazy crowded from about 11:00 am to late afternoon.

In other words, get there early! Beat the other tourists to the Campanile (bell tower), St. Mark's Basilica with its stunning Horses of St Mark, and the Doge's Palace (at left in the photo). I recommend you see them in that order, too. You can also see the Biblioteca (centered), the Clocktower and arcades, take photos of the Bridge of Sighs, shop and eat off square, and when you are ready take a gondola ride from the docks.

“There it is. The entrance—look.” Kayla thrust the viewer into Adrienne’s hands.

Adrienne peered through the viewer. “I can see inside,” she whispered. “There are… dozens of them in there.”

She handed the viewer back, unsettled by how the massive opening seemed to vanish to the naked eye.

Then—air brakes hissed in the distance.

They turned.

A military 6x6 had pulled off the highway, stopping precisely where the coyote had lingered. Now a reptilian stood in full view, speaking with the driver.

A second truck rumbled up, followed by a fully armored Humvee. Adrienne counted: nine soldiers and the reptilian. Several gazes shifted toward the mound.

Canvas flaps were rolled up. Truck tailgates lowered.

Adrienne leaned closer. “The trucks are empty,” she murmured.

Kayla’s tone was cold. “They’re picking something up. They’re working together.”

Twilight bled into the sky. The wait stretched into unease.

“Something’s happening,” Kayla breathed. The entrance glowed in the viewer—soft, unnatural light pouring from within. Shapes stirred.

Several reptilians stepped outside.

Then two more emerged, guiding a hover cart loaded with metal drums.

They slowly proceeded toward the road and as they did a second group emerged with an identical hover cart loaded with more drums.

Soldiers shifted—now armed. One mounted the Humvee’s .50-cal turret, eyes scanning the perimeter.

Inside the entrance, the lights went dark.

The reptilians reached the trucks. The drums were transferred from the hover carts onto the trucks and secured.

Adrienne raised her eyes—and froze.

being knowledgeable is essential, because, to me, nothing appears quite so difficult as to pose a model well and light him correctly, for the very reason that it seems so simple to do.

In the interest of photography and photographers I cannot urge amateurs enough to understand that photography is not a trade but an art and that, as a consequence, their feeling and their knowledge must be reflected in their works just as the feeling of a painter is reflected in his paintings :-)

I watched this Great Grey Owl as she flew silently over the meadow watching but more precisely listening for voles.

You can see how she suddenly changes her focus as she obviously heard something from a completely different direction.

These days, one can find graffiti (street art?) just about anywhere. Much of it does not make sense to me, but I have to admit some graffiti has its merits.

For example, railway cars and railway bridges (especially the rusting steel ones!) are just plain eyesores. A little bit of paint can give those things a whole new, and often better, appearance!

................................................................................................
