Maria posted a beautiful image with this quote
and it spoke so deeply to me that I wanted to create my own image and put it up as a reminder to pray... to keep our world held tightly in my heart and at the forefront of my thoughts and prayers. Thank you Maria for your inspiration.
I’m trying to do different things with my outdoor/landscape/scenery photography. I typically love to shoot as wide as possible to include as much into one shot as I can. But some of earth’s beauty is small and we walk over it in order to see the bigger picture. Sometimes we need to just look at everything and realize that the best photos in the world are not those that show us everything, but enough to let our minds make our own discoveries.

Discovered this praying mantis on a window sill today. I was loath to even touch it because it had just emerged from its previous skin. It was actually quite hard to photograph; the light from the window caused exposure problems.
This fascinating creature kept her eye on me while photographing my garden. She watched every move I made!
Here is some interesting information I found about them...the ladies are especially ferocious on their first dates! Yikes!!
“The Praying Mantis is one of the most loved of the insect world to humans and one of the most feared to other insects. It is extremely beneficial to gardens and humans because of its penchant for eating the things that bug us. They will eat mites, aphids and most other insects that are within the grasp of their front legs.
Praying mantis’ are related to grasshoppers and crickets, belonging to a family of insects called orthoptera. They have, like their cousin the grasshopper, mouths which have parts designed to chew and very distinct wings.
Praying mantis mate in the autumn. The male of the species is much smaller than the female and sometimes end up as lunch rather than a potential love interest! Once the mating is over, females very often will consume the male, at times even before the mating ritual is over. The male mantis do not attempt to prevent themselves from being eaten, but usually permit it.
The praying mantis will very often attack and eat things much larger than herself, including frogs and lizards. Adult and small mantis will eat anything that does not eat them first. They will kill moths, bees, beetles and horseflies, which is what makes them a friend to humans.”

During the last three weeks of success with dragons and damsels, there was quite an influx of Praying Mantises. There were three subspecies: this one is the Chinese Mantis, one of 2,400 species. Some are camouflaged like the orchids in the tropics from which they even hunt birds. The four I have on the mountain will have to suffice, especially since it took 19 years to find the third and fourth.
It's hard to describe the range, but if you slice North America from Maine to Baja, California (with the northern most "chunk" just passing west of the Central Valley). They are not found in the northwestern tier of states from Oregon to Minnesota and Wisconsin, and there is no evidence in Canada.
The closest relatives of mantises are the termites and cockroaches. I thought they'd be closer related to odonata, but not at all. Mantises are 133 million years old which Odonates are 333 million years. Obviously part of the family was very lazy after dragonflies perfected most of the unique aspects of what the praying mantises came to have an use.
