This Prairie Kingsnake was spotted by the crew as it was crossing a sandy road.
It's ridiculous how many prairie dog photos I took during the trip. At every colony I couldn't help but pull out the camera. They are just too adorable.
Prairie Dog photographed at the Capital of Texas Zoo in Bastrop Texas. Was so happy to see that they had a free range colony of them. The zoo owner said he started with 7 and now has over 200.

This very dark Prairie Kingsnake was found under a board at a trash site. It began to shed while being held for pictures.

Ebey's Landing National Historical Park was created in the 1970s after locals organized to block a housing development on Ebey's Prairie.
The prairie dogs in the villages in Theodore Roosevelt National Park were busy throughout the day eating and barking. I really wanted to take one (or two) home with me, but Mom refused to open the car door and try to lure one inside.
The Point was poppin this morning...!!
Besides the Kentucky Warbler, I also had this Prairie, Cape May Warbler, Wilsons, BT Blues, BT Greens, Magnolias, Yellow-rumped(s), American Redstarts, Northern Waterthrush, Canada Warbler, Yellow Warblers and tons of Common Yellowthroats..... Baltimore Orioles, Rose-breasted Grosbeaks.....and God knows what else I might be forgetting..!!
Natures renewal process of the prairie grass is by burning off the old and new grass comes back. These photos were taken in april of 2007. It was interesting to watch the fire, smoke and the mini tornados created.
Driving by the prairie grass it looks like just one kind of plant, but a close look reveals many kinds of plants are growing together.

Galesburg, IL - At the 2007 Knox Prairie Burn. People always told me to go to this thing but I never went until my last year. It was ok, I guess. I got a whole bunch of ash in my lens, though.

Quite a story goes with these two images: Heidi and I were just about to leave Castlewood Canyon State Park in the early evening when another couple mentioned having seen this snake minutes before. They proved it with a cell phone picture of it crossing the trail. I couldn't find it, but then I overheard a conversation between two other hikers around a bend in the trail that included "rattlesnake." I hustled over and indeed, there it was: a lovely specimen of the Prairie Rattlesnake, Crotalus viridis viridis.
The Prairie Dog (Cynomys ludovicianus)
While riding up to Rabbit Mountain, located east of Lyons, Colorado, I spotted this Prairie Dog playing in the snow. There were quite a few of them in this area. In this photo he seems to have noticed me.
