This very dark Prairie Kingsnake was found under a board at a trash site. It began to shed while being held for pictures.
The flower stalk of Prairie Dock looks bare except for the buds and flowers because the leaves have all been reduced to bracts.
There's a large prairie dog colony below Devil's Tower. These are black-tailed prairie dogs (Cynomys ludovicianus).

This grass is only 4-6 feet tall, but on the other side of the path, it's 6-8 feet this year.

Bringing over 3,000 people to the park, this is THE EVENT of the year with Darke County Parks. Not only will there something for everyone in your party to enjoy, but admission and parking is FREE! Held annually the last weekend in September, this event focuses on the prairie way of life in the 1790's and will feature many crafts, games, vendors and trades of the time period.
