Two weeks before they leave the nest, young ospreys start flapping their wings and trying to get airborne.
Practicing with lights and depth of field. This is a lot to remember all at once. Also bought my first poses!

“As life becomes harder and more threatening, it also becomes richer, because the fewer expectations we have, the more the good things of life become unexpected gifts that we accept with gratitude.” - Etty Hillesum
Serene photos to relax you as you go through this global pandemic. Stay safe and healthy, my friends.
I went to the Toronto Salsa Practice last Saturday to practice some people/action photos. I don't know if it's the scans or what but the photos came out super grainy. I had to do some median and USM to save it. Also some minor levels and curves. I don't think there was any cropping done to this image.

Saturday soccer practice in Newhall Community Park in Concord, California. Mt Diablo is in the background.
Interesting aside: The red team is all wearing masks. The white team is all (or almost all) maskless. It reflects the very mixed responses to Covid in our society.

I saw some snapshots of Kanye West x Adidas fashion show, and I really love their tone of colors. So I decided to use it for reference. I need to practice more on different kinds of skin tones.
This morning it was with a Baroque instrument. No adjusters or chin rest, gut strings and a shorter bow. Steep learning curve. It made me feel tired just to watch. Unfortunately this violin is not a 1695 Stradavari, otherwise we'd sell it and both retire.
Practicing social distancing at Casey's Beach on the New South Wales South Coast. The one on the left has been told not to stand so close.
Since retiring it has been wonderful to indulge myself with yoga practice. It is my routine to attend at least twice a week.
Our instructor has a perfect soothing voice.
This is the view from my mat at class.

******************************************************************************
The Roseate Spoonbill is a wading bird of the ibis and spoonbill family. This species feeds in shallow fresh or coastal waters by swinging its bill from side to side as it steadily walks through the water, often in groups. The spoon-shaped bill allows it to sift easily through mud. It feeds on crustaceans, aquatic insects, frogs, newts and very small fish ignored by larger waders. The Roseate Spoonbill nests in shrubs or trees, often mangroves, laying 2 to 5 eggs, which are whitish with brown markings. Immature birds have white, feathered heads, and the pink of the plumage is paler. They are extremely agile high in the treetops. (They are often confused with the flamingo.)

This is how I found Charlie when I came home today... practicing to become… a clown?! :)

Walking and shooting, practicing Daido Moriyama style imaging.
A "Daidoish" preset was applied (contrast 90+, clear view 50+, blacks -40 or less, tone curve adjusted to crush blacks and blow highlights)

DPi's on track during the afternoon practice session. Didn't help as the 7 only managed a 5th place and the 6 never made it. Great looking livery though.
