Museum of the Capital Prague - Main Building (Muzeum hlavního města Prahy)
The museum is housed in a Neo-Renaissance building, once built for the then royal museum of the capital, Prague. The exhibits represent the history of Prague art from the time of prehistory until the year 1784. The most unique and attractive exhibit of the museum is the Langweil model of the city of Prague from the years 1826-1834. It is a unique document, how the Old Town, the Kleinseite (little side of the river) and the Prague Castle looked like at the turn of the 19th and 20th century.
The second half of the 19th century was a time when many enthusiasts, patriots and people who were interested founded different museums around history and science. As the third Prague museum, the Prague Capital Museum was established in 1883. The museum was first discussed in the city council in 1877. Great services were rendered by Wácslav Vladivy Tomek at the head of the commission on the content and practical installation of the museum, Dr. Miroslav Tyrš as the director of the First Committee of the Museum, who also brought together the first, then still small museum collection, as well as its first director, archaeologist and historian Břetislav Jelínek. The collections were finally exhibited in the former cafe in the Na Poříčí City Park and by that in 1883 the Prague City Museum was founded. The café-pavilion was built in 1878 by František Saller and Jan Beninger, but its rooms soon failed to meet the growing collections. Therefore, with architect Antonín Wiehl a new building project was commissioned. However, he has renounced the task and the project of a Neo-Renaissance building was developed by Antonín Balšánek.
The new building was added to the old Café Pavilion in 1896 - 1898 and opened to the public in 1900. In the middle of the main façade the magnificent building has a prominent ridge, crowned with a tympanum, in which is a relief of Ladislav Šaloun, with the theme "history, science, art and craftsmanship are forming the fame of our past. On the highest peak of the tympanum is put Šaloun's allegorical figure of Prague dating from 1896. This statue was shot down in the fighting of the May revolution of 1945 by a German tank. Its copy was created by sculptor Miloslav Šonka after the diminished model from Šaloun's estate found in 1985. Other decorations of the building were performed by sculptor František Stránský (sculptures of Christianity and paganism), sculptor Vojtěch Šaff (prehistory, history, monuments) on the back facade and sculptor František Hergesel (history) on the side of Karlín. There is also the great coat of arms of the city of Prague by O. Šmejkal. In the interior there are stucchi of Vilém Amort and sculptures by Ludvík Wurzel, František Hergesel and Antonín Procházka. Above the landing there is a panorama of Prague of Antonio Sacchetti. Above the panorama are seven views of the city of Karl Liebscher and Václav Jansa.
In the museum collections, there are interesting and historically and artistically valuable objects from various areas of human activity that document the historical and cultural development of the city from prehistoric times to the present. The museum has an extensive archaeological collection, a collection of decorative art, porcelain, furniture, one of the largest collections of European guild monuments, a collection of works of art of unique Gothic wood carvings to Baroque wood carvings to the collection of drawings and paintings by painters of the 19th and 20th century, who captured the transformations of Prague. It contains a collection of the works of Josef Mánes, including his original calendar plate of the Astronomical Clock, as well as rare views of Prague, especially a large collection of works by Vinzenz Morstadt and a collection of photographs. Famous is also the model of Prague from the years 1826 - 1834, the work of the painter Anton Langweil, unique for its documentary and artistic value. On the surface of 20 m2, a few thousand houses with every detail on the façade were shown, with precise color, with sculpturally executed arbours, with engraved sgraffiti and the exact number of windows, doors, statues and other details. Mostly hard cardboard with drawings on paper, but also wood and other materials were used.
In addition to the main building, the museum also has a publicly accessible exposition at the Výtoň, where history of Podskalí (group of houses) is represented, an exposition of Vyšehrad in the fortress Vyšehrad and several other depots. In 1941, the Archaeological Museum was transferred to the museum, founded by J. A. Jira in the Hanspaulka Castle (a small one). This exposition was abolished at the end of the sixties of the 20th century, to make room for the huge number of artefacts discovered during archaeological excavations in connection with the construction of the subway.

Had a fun idea to quickly shoot all the feet of the bridal party before the wedding.
It was hot hot hot, 40 degrees, us English maidens had swollen feet and only got into shoes at the last minute. The bride, very practical that she is, stayed in flip flops until the last minute!
