I’ve never seen a front end loader used as a power washer before. He would drive into the river, fill up the bucket, then drive over & dump the water on the mud to wash it off.
I was bored, had some fun with the scanner. It's really hot today. I got a new phone, the Samsung Reality-- it's really awesome. Touch screen, slide phone, and it's just neat. Has an AWESOME camera, too, which I am going to sincerely enjoy. I'm going to be paying my own bill, too, which is going to be interesting. But it's my first bill, so I'll be able to build my credit and try and be responsible... like I don't already.
The other photo's I uploaded are from Aaron's house this last week. We worked on his house almost EVERYday, peeling paint and powerwashing and sanding and painting. We have more this week.

It was kind of a tough night. No one major thing happened, but I was just kind of off. As I left the New York Times building tonight, I knew I needed to start taking pictures, so to warm up, I started at the first street corner. I wasn't taking pictures of anything in particular, although a guy powerwashing the sidewalk called out, asking if the picture was good. He seems slightly annoyed, but also curious, and asked to see the picture. It wasn't any good, which I knew, but I tried to explain the composition. He was clearly unimpressed (it was a bad picture, my first of the night), and kind of blew me off. I don't like to be intrusive. I'm just looking for a bit of beauty in the world, but I hate when I disappoint strangers I interact with. I was already a bit down, and this just devastated me. I didn't even want the interaction, but wanted to be respectful. Just because I can take a picture, doesn't mean every shot is good.
It really ate me up. I knew my best shot was to keep walking for a bit until I wasn't feeling so crap, so I walked from the Bus Terminal to Grand Army Plaza on East 59th Street, about 23 blocks away. Even as I boarded the subway, I wasn't back to normal, but music helped. Then, as I got a sandwich from my local deli, the guy behind the counter and I had a quick bit of back and forth. He made me laugh. Just a bit, but it helped.
People in Queens might not be as edgy or sheek as in other areas, but they're had working, good people, and they're often some of the most friendly I encounter. I'm grateful for my community, especially on the darker days.

Ex marine. One overbore to .030 over. 4 bolt, no stamping above the T cover. Second try at a block, this one looks very good. Just back from a DIY cleaning. Removed all the pipe plugs (what a bitch!) The cooling passages had what appeared to be heavy tan coloured calcium build up, a lot at the bottoms, probably from open loop freshwater running. Blocked off the water pump mounts, tipped the engine so the deck was up, parallel and level, filled the passages full with a industrial scale remover called Lime A Way (mild acid, think CLR). Let sit for 6 hours (foam was coming out the deck openings from the reaction within 1 hour, stopped at 4) all the scale is gone. Drained, then did the other bank. Popped the rear freeze plugs, then submerged it for 5 hours in a 50 degree C, 6% Caustic bath (remember the old hot tank style?). The old paint, hard grease and dirt simply fell away. Soap and water/Tentrex brush scrubbing (Moroso 5192 brush kit) of all the passages after, then a 3000 psi hot powerwash of everything and all the passages. Immediate WD40 soak to push out the water, then a heating for 1 hour @ 80c to dry, along with a blow out with high pressure Nitrogen (could have used air, but I have 80psi N2 on hand!) of all the threads and details. Came out spotless!
Next we'll NDT and sonic, then if good (no cracks and thick enough, torque plate bore and hone to .060 + - exact to fit the piston. Mock up then figure how much deck to be removed (to a minimum). this block looks good, the lifter bores are pretty intact as well.
I spent the weekend powerwashing the fence and all the painted parts of my house. You may not be able to tell but the white is brighter now

The 96th Street subway station (1,2 & 3 lines) is undergoing renovation - they are retileling the station. You can still see the old tiles - the yellow, dirty looking part on the wall and the new tiles which are white. This was never the prettiest station in the subway but I think a good powerwashing would have done wonders. While waiting for a train I thought I'd document the transition and then this girl entered from the right just as I clicked the shutter. Love the silhouette - her optimistic stride and of course that umbrella.

This deck was stained with an opaque stain that was flakin off in places and the customer wanted to put a cedar tone color on it instead. We stripped it using a finish remover and the pressure washer at 160 deg. and 2000 psi using our spinner. For having the deck being blue prior to us showing up I think it turned out pretty well.
