We lost power in our office today... Just our office, not the rest of the corridor. Our lack of power may last a week! It's funny how difficult it is to function without electricity.
I used the last droplets of juice in my MacBook Pro to turn on it's backlit keyboard for this bokeh filled shot!

i tried taking some shots in dark, it was my first attempt with my camera. Out of many shots, i like this one most.
*I'll really appreciate your suggestions or any advice regarding this shot, it will sure help me to make more improvements*
1) Most obvious one is ADE28 (YX12 GHJ) curtailed on route 81 to Langley, Fire Station.
2) A couple of weeks ago, Hounslow House pictured at the back of this photo on the left had one wing collapse - happening at the same time as a powercut on the other side of Hounslow.
power cuts are frequent at least in this part of Tamil Nadu; but shop keepers have small battery based lamps, which switch on automatically, resulting sometimes in interesting light situations .
A London Midland Class 323 stands in Chester Road station, many passengers were bemused by the announcement that the station had suffered a power cut and extra care should be taken when alighting from the train; he wasn't wrong it certainly was dark.

After the KPC meet,i went to Jadavpur 8B (Thanks to Soumya da for dropping me upto Bengal lamp) ,when suddenly there was a power cut...so,I thought of taking a shot in that darkness ....
This man is a roadside nut-seller..the red light in his hand is coming form his fire ...and the blurs in the black are car lights...
Never knew that darkness has its own light and colors....
BTW,this is manual focus ...auto focus wasn't working in that dark ...shot handheld (by holding my breath) ...

This is from several years ago after a comparatively light snow fall. At the moment much of this area, and the area really on top of the plateau, is cut off with huge snow drifts. Feystown, Carnalbanagh, Cargan, Newton Cromelin, The Sheddings, Buckna are all still largely cut off. And many of the farms and families have no electricity.
So there I am in our holiday cottage reading in the bath at midnight when the lights flickered. Once. Twice. Three times. The fourth time they never came back on: a power-cut caused by the gales sweeping Scotland. My wife Mairi advised going to bed but after I'd located the towel in the dark plus my PJs & then retrieved my lenser P7 from the car I realised this was a rare opportunity too good to miss...
I shot a number of photos standing in the middle of the village Main Street. Some simply showing the darkness and the starry sky above but this one with me and the torch was my favourite.
It was actually very, very dark & any burst of torch-light I used to see what I was doing felt very, very noticeable as I stood there in the brisk conditions in my theatre-greens/PJs- I wonder what any of the locals would have thought if they'd seen me prowling about going about my business! I did consider spinning some wire wool but decided that was maybe a step too far...
With my country facing a load shading of 14 hours a day, it’s really getting tough for people to get the basic things done. The Government had come up with the long term plan to address this issue and only thing we can do is to hope for the best!!
P.s: No Photoshop except little crop and Tone mapping :D,

Reached Cherrapunjee is the midst of very dense fog and Rain. Our accommodation was booked in a resort called Sai-mi-ka park its just before reaching Cherrapunjee, we booked for normal rooms amongst the 8 rooms they have but as it was raining consistently for the past 6 days the roof leaked of the room booked for us. So we were asked to put up at this spooky looking Khasi Cottage :) in a remote corner of the resort. The spooky feeling got more with the sound of rain , the breeze blowing and powercut as that cottage didnt had the power backup....... amazing experience that was lol me and my father talking to each other from our bed in that pitch black condition... I slept with my head torch on the whole night .. :D :D :D

The whole village was pitch black & this was the main street. I shone a torch in our living-room to make it stand out. I like the wee shooting star fortuitously captured top right. My oldest kids loved that The Milky Way seems to be pointing at their bedroom!
Or at least thats what it said on the timesheet. When it takes half hour to start up again i decided to wait till it passed and grab the camera instead.

6.30am - EDF were working on powerlines nearby and cut our electricity for the whole morning..... So coffee by candlelight it was for me! Good job it's not cold at the moment.
How do you photograph a power cut. We were one of 48 properties who suffered power cuts during Sunday. This picture out of the window shows the houses in the street without power. The whole experience showed how much we depend on electrical power. The fault was a difficult one for the power company and involved an underground cable. Obviously we are now back on and I am able to post the picture.

This is the fireplace in our cottage. There was a powercut so we had to rely on the fire for heat and the candles for light. I saw the opportunity for a nice photo :o)

In Eritrea, almost every evening there's a power cut. Even in the capital, Asmara, things aren't better (which is fair enough). Some shops and bars have generators. But they don't tend to use them too much, since diesel is very expensive, at around 3.50 USD per liter.
