Power-cut & Milky Way, Kirkowan, Wigtownshire
So there I am in our holiday cottage reading in the bath at midnight when the lights flickered. Once. Twice. Three times. The fourth time they never came back on: a power-cut caused by the gales sweeping Scotland. My wife Mairi advised going to bed but after I'd located the towel in the dark plus my PJs & then retrieved my lenser P7 from the car I realised this was a rare opportunity too good to miss...
I shot a number of photos standing in the middle of the village Main Street. Some simply showing the darkness and the starry sky above but this one with me and the torch was my favourite.
It was actually very, very dark & any burst of torch-light I used to see what I was doing felt very, very noticeable as I stood there in the brisk conditions in my theatre-greens/PJs- I wonder what any of the locals would have thought if they'd seen me prowling about going about my business! I did consider spinning some wire wool but decided that was maybe a step too far...
