Thorpe Marsh Power Station closed in 1994. Since then it has gradually been demollished. Well, everything except the cooling towers - 6 of them. The are also two biggish buildings (I have no idea what the were for) and several small buildings.
There are various plans for the site - including a nature reserve, and a landfill site (fiercely objected to by local residents). In reality, nothing will probably happen. The towers still survive because it is feared that any explosion caused would rupture the banks of the nearby canal.
The station has been closed since 1994 and the 45 acres (18 ha) site was accquired by Able UK in 1995.[2] Much of the station has been demolished and now only its six cooling towers (each 340 ft (100 m) high and 260 ft (79 m) in diameter at the base), two ash slurry hoppers, railway sidings and the station's large adjacent electricity switching station still remain. The switching station was nearly flooded during the 2007 Yorkshire flood, which would have knocked the grid out according to news reports. The structures still stand now because it is feared that any explosion would cause the banks of the nearby canal to rupture.[3] They also contain asbestos, which would contaminate land for miles around the site. There have been several controversial proposals for the site, including a car distribution depot and more recently a huge landfill site, neither of which have proven popular with the local residents.

The coal is not in the right place prototypically, but this is where I had to put it in order to have room for the battery and IR reciever.
60 batteries in 2 banks of 30 to give approx 400V. They are designed to give 20 minutes power to the DC at half-load (or 10 minutes if one fails). They will only ever be at half-load.
Conrail still lives in Lehigh, IL as GP8 5460 sits at Vulcan Materials. They don't use this is their primary unit anymore but this thing still can operate on its own power.
You don't tend to see smokestacks like this, anymore. They're a dying breed. I'm glad they kept it as part of the restoration of the power house.

Derelict power station, South Fremantle, WA, Australia.
South Fremantle Power Station, built in 1946 is a former coal-fired electric power generating installation. The main building, which is now stripped of its plant and equipment, is aesthetically significant, demonstrating the strong expression of a structure specifically designed for an industrial process. It was the second and largest purpose-built thermal power station in Western Australia and is a good example of an Art Deco Industrial structure.

Finalmente una buona notizia! Il rimarchevole & indispensabile blog-antibufala il Disinformatico ha segnalato un significativo sbufalamento dei sedicenti braccialetti miracolosi: striscioline di gomma con un ologramma decorativo che promettevano mari e monti e che si sono rivelati - prevedibilmente, dato che Mago Merlino non esercita più da tempo! - niente più che... (indovinate?) striscioline di gomma con un ologramma decorativo.
Sono partito da questa piacevole notiziola e - come mi capita sovente - ho cominciato a svolazzare pindaricamente per l'aere immaginativo-satirico finché ho elaborato la vignetta che vedete!
