Tasting Britain got an invite to Mark Hix's Cock 'n' Bull Gallery / CNB Gallery to meet the fine people at Silent Pool Distillers. CNB Gallery lives underneath the rather East London, and rather hip Tramshed, on Rivington Street. For those who are unaware, the Tramshed is a restaurant that was once a power generator for the East End tram network (I didn't actually know there was a tram network but there you go). Now it focuses on casual dining (mainly stuff made with steak and chicken), and there you shall find Damien Hirstâs formaldehyde preserved cow and chicken, suspended from a high ceiling over the dining area. Itâsâ¦memorable, to say the least
Anyway, more about the gin: the Silent Pool Distillery, which was started by a group of friends, is located in Albury, Surrey - on the Duke of Northumberland's Estate, and the site of the Silent Pool. They claim itâs a sacred site, Iâm just not sure who holds it sacred. The Silent Pool has a bit of history and mystery about it. Much beloved of the poet Alfred Tennyson, itâs also thought to be haunted by the ghost of a woodcutterâs daughter, who drowned there trying to escape a man on horseback (possibly King John), sometime back in the 13th century. She can supposedly be seen at Midnight, perhaps waiting (in vain) for metaphysical closure?
Anyhow, they renovated what was a dilapidated farm, brought in a Holstein copper still and got cracking. The signature product is, obviously, the Silent Pool gin. Itâs a moreâ¦traditional tasting, juniper driven one, made up of 24 botanicals, and is the brainchild of Silent Poolâs master blender, Cory Mason (and his strong Victorian moustache). Cory holds an MSc from the Institute of Brewing and Distilling at Herriot Watt University in Edinburgh, and before he moved to the UK, used to work in New York managing various venues and making cocktails. Presumably he decided to up sticks and make GIN happen, and so here we are. The distillery is open seven days a week and people are welcome to come and visit (and I willâ¦)

MEGATRO provides the Wind Power Generating Industry the most reliable, economical MET tower systems in the business. These wind towers are made from solid steel and welded by certified welders, which is the tower units for wind power turbine, applied with wind power Generator during wind power generation. It is the large diameter & thick steel pipe structure below the generator of a wind turbine that supports the turbine, houses the meters and wires, and keeps the turbine high above the ground level to protect the surrounding area and people from the force of the blades. It is also the main stressed components which need to be enough strength and rigidity to endure huge wind pressure and shearing forces. The base also serves to elevate the turbine above surrounding obstacles that could otherwise block the wind. The tower units are formulated to a large tube with a variety of accessories which include platforms, ladders, cable fixings, positioning of switchboard and so on.
Some of MEGATRO wind tower belong to sefl-support type, as same as taper monopole; MEGATRO's all welded design provides maximum tower stiffness, minimum twist/sway and bending. Towers come with single pole and climbing ladder and rest platform and other tower accessories. After fabrication towers are delivered to take sand-blasting, then painting them one by one. First prime painting, then intermediate coat and as last finish painting.
All fabrication will be discussed by both parties and reach an agreement before mast production.

Spring gets me away from Queen Street. This is the waterfront a bit less than a mile form where I live.
The single wind power generator is visible from much of the neighbourhood. When it first appeared it was exciting. Years later it is still the only one of its kind in these parts. If it remains this way for much longer it will become a symbol for empty gestures.
(New information from commenters suggests more is going on.)
It so needs a sculpture of Don Qixote advancing upon it.
Q. How come the wind power generator is not turning on a windy day? I don’t have the answer. I’m genuinely curious.
Empty refrigerators in a supermarket. Fruits, vegetables, and meat are less than usual or any at all in many stores. The dependence on power generators limits the possibility of storing fresh food for consumers.
Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico on September 20, 2017 with sustained winds of 155mph (Category 4). The strongest storm to hit my country since 1928.
After one month, Puerto Rico is still in an emergency state. According to The Weather Channel, around 88% of the population doesn't have power at their homes and 1 million of the 3.4 million people who live here doesn't have potable water service. The goverment's death toll is 48, but we keep hearing the total could be hundreds. For example: people who didn't received medical attention at the right time as consequence of the telecommunications colapse. In my case, I didn't have cellphone service at my house until October 6. This problem hasn't been resolved at all; some areas doesn't have mobile network services.
We don't lose hope. We'll stand up again. We are fighters.
2 survivors find a small hatch and power generator. They open it up, and find that the hatch continues down farther than they can see. An abnormally large ladder appears to be the only way down.

As shown in "Wind Power Generator in Wakasu Park" and "Wind Turbine in Wakasu Park", we can see a large wind power generator and small wind turbines in Wakasu Park. The small wind turbines are intended to show various wind turbines. Some are not efficient and never used as a wind power generator. The one in this picture is such an example. It is used only as an anemometer.
The H2 and O2 fuel sources power small turbines in the engine which generate an abundance of clean energy. The electricity provides power to the motors in each wheel hub, as well as the other systems and modules attached to the M.O.O.N. Rover. Who needs batteries when you're cooking with gas!
The exhaust outputs nothing more than fresh water, good old H2O - some of which is stored onboard, perfect for thirsty humans. The energy required to split the water into H2 and O2 is too high for the rover to become truly self-sufficient, so this is processed at the base catalysis facilty (powered from the master grid) and stored onsite for distribution to infrastructure and domiciles.

First time I had one of these on a bike trip. I have a lot of electronics, but I'm usually a long ways from a plugin. Helped to keep my cellphone, MP3 player and tablet computer going.
These are those laptops that were supposed to be $50 each. They didn't end up that cheap, but they are still pretty cool, and they have a portable, cord-powered generator!

Emily and I drove home from Minneapolis today after a long, very fun weekend. I tried to get a picture of the wind power generators as we drove by, but the flash led to this unintentional picture. In the end, this seemed pretty fitting since Emily had been reading Spring in Action (while trying not to nap too much), and when she took over driving I continued the reading.

DOSS: I was in the abandoned Yellow Springs Power Plant at night for this image too. This is a power generator, but from the side. To show detail in the machinery. I used bracketing to create this HDR image.
Edits: I merged the bracketed exposures I took in LR. I then took the image to PS, where I immediately started to edit the monochrome image in ACR. I took the clarity up first, then the whites, shadows, and blacks all went up. I then took the highlights down. I brought the dehaze up. I also autoed the perspective under geometry. I added a levels adjustment layer. I also dodged some areas that I wanted to pop.

The electrical transmission towers march across the rice paddies from the point of power generation to the south where several nuclear power generators are sited, but which suspended operations after the 3.11.2011 nuclear disasters. Here the lines rise over the mountains and down the valley to points north. While the hamlet hugging the skirts of Mt Hino has stood there from one generation to the next, the advent of electrical power and with it all the appliances, conveniences and services that it makes possible entered the lives of people and has come to be indispensable and taken for granted to those alive today. The thought of living without electrical power certainly would be a culture shock: return to lighting with kerosene or candles, heating of rooms and water by other means, communication by printed distributions of news and loudspeaker (not the amplified kind, the bullhorn kind -think town crier).
